Welcome to Librarium Online!
This weekend I'm going to fight a guy with IW, I'll be playing my brave Necrons at a 1800 game. I've never faced IW since the new CSM Codex came out (black legion and khorne\slaanesh are a lot populare at my gamestore), any good advice about the army list?
He has a 200 points demon prince, a couple of defilers and a tipical stand&shoot strategy. My idea was to pack a unit of 8\10 Flayed Ones to Infiltrate, 3\4 Scarabs , 25\30 warriors as a base, but I'm not sure about Immortals and Destroyers. I usually play 10 and 5, against IW I'll have to make a step forward in order for my 24" assault gauss weapons to become effective, while with Destroyers I won't have that problem.
All suggestions will be extremely welcome!
I'd also bring more than just 4 scarabs. I'd bring more, so that you can swamp his obliterators and Terminators in CC, denying them shots, thus allowing you to move in wiht the Flayed Ones and finish them in CC.
Monolith teleporting would also be good, so that you can get forward fast to shoot up the Marines, but be wary about that, make sure your Warrior count is high.
Personally, I'd hold off on the immortals. They're too slow to get into range without getting shot up, and they cost a little much. I'd invest in more Warriors to load up on volumes of shots.
Destroyers should be okay, they're fast and can get more shots off. More shots are better against this. Make them take as many saves as possible.
Well, hope there's lots of terrain. IW are very tough for Necrons. A deepstriking lith is honestly a must. Anything to disrupt his lines...except flayed ones. They will get mowed down on the turn they come in, and infiltrating them would have to have some very specific circumstances to be effective. Here's the thing with destroyers. I once took 10 destroyers in a fight against an IW player, my other fast attack was a group of 10 scarabs, which by the way, are a great idea. The destroyers got in one round of shooting, he still got his saves, and then he blew trhem all away with little effort. So, here is what I suggest. Attempt to outcheese the cheeser. Take 2 striking liths. Take plenty of warriors to up your phase out, and then for your fast attack, take lots of scarabs. Use the scarabs without diruption fields to tie up his roughest shooting units in cc. Use the ones with the fields to attack his/her vehicles. And you do not have to tell him/her which ones are which until it's too late. Just make sure there are enough of them to be effective, I know not everyone has 30 scarabs to toss around, but in units less than 5, they're useless. Use the scarabs to disrupt his lines, get your warriors in some cover, and wait for the liths to come in and destroy his lines. For clean up duty and special assignments you could bring a unit of 7 or 8 Immortals with a veiled lord, but you could also achieve the same thing with the veiled lord and about 20 warriors. Overall though, stay away from units that he/she's going to get his/her money's worth shooting at. Make him/her waste his/her shots on warriors that get cover saves and have an orb so they get back up half the time. Orbs are a must against IW. When the liths come in, they will cause all hell to break loose, and even IW will have trouble totally incapacitating a lith. Things to watch out for, Obliterators. Most IW players have at least a few. Not only will they nuke you with big guns, they can morph into fists as well for some nice counter assault action against Necrons. It's going to be tough anyway you slice it, but it is winnable. Good Luck, cheers.
A huge block of text is almost impossible to read easily. You say many many good things, but paragraphs and stuff would really help us appreciate what you've kindly written!
If you're going to veil then you definitely need immortals. Their superior range covers for a bad scatter, unless they land in a pond. Veiling with warriors is too much of a risk. Remember deep striking rules. Can you really guarantee to get within 12" of your quarry?
I would recommend faster untis to decimate his lines. Scarabs are a must, with disruption fields they can cause a lot of havoc and mayhem - you need to disrupt those defilers or they will deny whole pie plates worth of WBB for you.
Destroyers should be used to mass shoot the DP (who is monstrous and CAN be targeted) if the DP reaches your lines, then you're dead, unless you're clever with veiling and you can use the rest of your boys to flay him into the ether.
at 1800, I would say that's definitely monolith territory. The monolith is great because, not only is it good, but he'll devote a large amount of fire power too it. And if he doesn't, then feel free to smash him with it.
Iron warriors are top contenders in tournaments, and very tricky. But it's not impossible.

Next one we'll definitely play on a decent table with the right amount of buildings...otherwise I'll play World Eaters or Eldar, 40 Khorne Berserkers or 30 Bainshees will definitely appreciate the amount of buildings on that table, my Immortals didn't at all .___. I got slaughtered
If we'll play the next game at 1800, on a table with the correct amount of buildings, I'll deepstrike 3 Monoliths >__>
