Quickest was to start a Tau army?
A codex and a battleforce.
The codex is a must, but failing the battleforce, grab a box or two of Fire Warriors and a Crisis Suit for an HQ.
Ethereals are a ways of points in games less than 1500.
Battleforce is great. You get so much crap for the price.
But I'd suggest the firewarriors just so you have something to do in the mean time.
Thanks a bundle, I've been tearing my hair out over it.
Wins from my armies.
Cadian 22nd/124th (Infantry/armoured) 17/9/15
Cadian 128th (Artillery) DISBANDED!
Space Wolves (Marines) DISBANDED!
>_< I personally dont like the battleforce. Even though it has some awesome things, I'd trade in that carni squad of bony krooties for another helping of Fire Warriors. Ah yes, ethereals are nice, hide him in a bunker or behind a tank It saves his ass. Or just keep him behind some type of plateau behind a big rock. Codex, definately. Without the codex, you are kroot fodder.
Yo've never had a mob of Kroot kill five times their point value in Dreadnoughts and Devastators, have you Vaughn? Trust me, they're in the Battleforce for a reason.
Edit: And if you don't want the Kroot, trade them to someone who DOES want them for a FW team, or sell them.
i love kroot. without kroot, you have no cc or good ones anyways.
kroot give me something for my bolters to tear to shreads
PROUD TO BE IN THE BRITISH ARMY.
~~ Surrender and serve me in life, or die and slave for me in death~~
yea but with infiltrators and field croft they are made to take some losses.
Bolters against Kroot? Hmh. You'll have to do better than that, I'm afriad. If the Kroot are standing in the open, fine, but if the Tau player has any sense at all, they will be sitting in the deepest, darkest patch of woods on the field, far enough back so that they can hit you, but you can't hit them. If they're in heavy cover, it's also a 4+ cover save for them.
I've had a player park a Vindicator in front of my Kroot and shell them for six turns without killing a single model. And IF you manage to dislodge the Kroot, I'll have the rest of my army (including no less than sixty assorted Pulse weapons) set up in a perfect firing line to perforate whatever hit the Kroot.
Where I'm from, we call that tactic "Kauyon."
Never was a big fan of the kroot. I love the models, and I'm sure they have some good use on the battlefield (or, and kroothounds sound awesome), but I just wanted to stay as far away from CC as I could this time around.
In regards to the battleforce: Vaughn, how could you pass it up? Sure the kroot are in there, but you might use them for something. The crisis suits alone almost make up the entire cost. Then you get the two squads of guys, and then 10 gun drones. Not to mention, they chase it all with a thing of jungle trees.
