Welcome to Librarium Online!
hey im new to eldar having played only chaos before hand. the main army i will be facing is my mates Tau, he rely's heavily on cissis suites.
what i currently have is
hq:autach-swooping hawk wings
troop 1:10x dire avengers-exarch
-two shuriken catapults
troop 2:10x dire avengers-exarch
-two shuriken catapults
i was wandering what people think i should get next?
You need to get some longer range stuff because those tau are gonna outrange your avengers all day. So either heavy weapons (Falcon, Prism Tank, Dark Reapers) or Waveserpents to give your Dire Avengers the mobility they need.
I have found that Shining Spears make excellent Crisis Suit hunters as well.
Also, what kind of Tau does he play besides playing Crisis Heavy? Are all his firewarriors mounted in devilfish? what sort of heavy support does he take? What are the point limits you usually play?
"I am the architect of fate!"
he uses two fire warrior squads one devil fish , one kroot squad the rest are crisis suits kitted out in various ways. we usualy play around 1250 to 1500 that was with my chaos
You have a solid core army but you must decide what style of play you want before picking up more units. Everyone on here has their own oppinions on what you should get but without some kind of direction your just reading favorites or what other people use.
Demandred is right in saying you need some longer range weapons or speed to close the gap. You have some infantry already so you might do well to get a vehicle, a falcon is the best choice overall as it can fill multiple roles and carries alot of firepower. Or maybe you want to try an alternative to your autarch, get a farseer. Without more information on what you want out of the army all I can really say is get some models you like the look of and have fun with it.
The man of tomorrow is judged by his battle today.
Like the other guys say, think about what 'character' your force is gonna have and start selecing new units on that basis.
Good general-purpose units...the Falcon is a nice choice, it can be a transport for a small unit and depending on how you kit it out can be moderately cheap or expensive. Six harliquins or six fire dragons can ruin anyone's day.
Striking Scorpions are good all-purpose melee units and tough for eldar.
Guardians are a meat shield (frequently useful) and can add firepower with thier weapons platform.
Wraithlords are still nice. War-walkers are fun but vounerable. The Shadow Weaver seems like it can cause havok way out of proptiortion to it's super-low points cost since it's so cheap...and the V-cannon looks like lots of fun to experiment with too. Both can fire without LOS, which ought to annoy Tau who want to sit at the back edge of the table!
I'm not sure about Kroot stats, but I'd think that Scropions would counter them nicely. They have a good amount of attacks, moderate strangth, fairly high initiative, and a good armor save.
Also, anything that can get right up to his line might work well.
You could mount Harlies in a Falcon or Banshees in a Wave Serpent.
"What do Humans know of our pain? We have sung songs of lament since before your ancestors crawled on their bellies from the sea."
- Farseer Eldrad Ulthran of Craftworld Ulthwe
Scorpians will eat Kroot for breakfest. Then they will eat his Fire Warriors for breakfest, if he ignores them. Or he shoots at them, and the rest of your forces gets to shoot at him (or advance) without retaliation.
I think you need to get some scorpians.. let them sneak in and open a can of whoop ass on the tau. Shining spears would be good hunters as well. An army of DA or Guardians is going to get you slaughtered agianst the FWs. Only chance with DAs is get a waveserpent and then unload them and empty those clips. Waithlords are good against tau cause they waste there entire army shooting at it.
Kroot will get destroyed by scorpions, banshees, or harlies...and even more so with an attatched autarch or farseer.
Decide what kind of style you are going to play. For starter you probably alrady know that chaos can march right up the middle of the battlefield, but eldar will have to use every peice of cover they can find, along with every peice of transport they can hop in.
thanks for all your coments.
i have always had a close combat orientated army with my chaos, so for eldar i was thinking a more shooty army.
a full squad of dark reapers with an exarch with a tempest and fast shot seem like they could do well. they would destroy the kroot and a lot of the fire wariors.
or wae walkers with scaterlasers and/or bright lances.
