Some very very newbie questions
My brother and I wanted to play some real small fights, like 500pts. I have heard rumor of a 'patrol' mission that relaxes some of the required army choices (like no expensive Headquarters units), is there a link or place in the text(s) that I am missing where I can find info on that?
Also, do Devilfish Troop Transports count as a Troop selection? Eg- a Firewarrior squad in Devilfish meets the 2 Troop choice requirement?
Once i have a basic grasp of what I want points wise, I can go lay down $50 on some models. Thanks for the help.
"Combat Patrol" is int he backish part of the rulessection of the book. It's for 400 pts and lower. It's more to hinder you than unhinder you, cuz a Wraitlord running around in 400 pts is really unfair. Monstrously unfair, even.
Everyone has to ask them sooner or later :yes:Originally Posted by EntharWelcome to Warhammer 40K you will find that it is very dark and scary (just the way I like it :shifty. As Sir_Prometheus said, the rules for Combat Patrol are in the 40K Rule Book on Pg 182-183.Originally Posted by EntharIf it's just him and his brother I think they'll have a great time (as long as you two get along...). You acctually can't field a Wraithlord in a Combat Patrol Mission because of the max of 2 Wounds rule (Wraithlords have 3).Originally Posted by Sir_Prometheus
What isn't fair is fielding Hammerheads in a 500 pts battleIf you get a Fire Warrior squad, and mount them in a devilfish transport they only count as one choice requirement as the Devilfish is in fact part of the Fire Warrior squad. All transports and additions to squads act this way unless specifically specified otherwise.Originally Posted by Enthar

Sorry Sir_Prometheus, the way I read your previous post I thought you were saying that Combat Patrol is a hinderance to those that play it and allow unballanced things like letting a wraithlord run around in a 400 pt game.
My sincerest apologies for misinterpriting your previous post, as I now see that it was not how you meant your post to be interprited.
Thanks for the help, obviously hadn't carefully perused the book yet .
400 pts is a perfect fit for us for now, so I was going to just throw a list out, and see what people thought of it. My brother likes Chaos and Tyranid, and hasn't decided which he will play yet.
Missile Pod, Plasma Rifle, Targeting Array
HW MultiTracker, HW Blacksun Filter, Team Leader
Stealth Team (3x Shas'ui)
w/team leader and Bonded
multitracker, decoy launcher
Can't, according to the rules, field Hammerheads, Broadsides, or any HQ choice but the Ethereal. I contemplated an Ethereal + Honor Guard and then another squad of Firewarriors, but I worried that even light vehicles would be impossible to overcome. Any thoughts on the selection above?
your list is good except for the crisis. you have stuff in there you dont need. like the target lock and the blacksun filter. target lock is only useful if you have more then one unit in a squad. and the blacksun is only good for night fighting which isnt that fun especially for tau (which shoots 99% of the time) or new people (which puts more rules into an already confusing game for begginers)
