Welcome to Librarium Online!
So we've all looked at the new codex, reconciled ourselves to insta-killable farseers, and have been making our own judgements about the feasability of Autarchs.
The general consensus has been that Autarchs arenot'd designed to be "OMFG! roxxer kewl powers pwnege" like SM Chaplains or Chaos Lords.
However, we would seem to have a possible exception to that. Yriel. His spear, his attack statt, and his one-trick pie-plate all seem designed to kill MEQs at with a decent amount of efficiency. The pie-plate will require finesse to pull off, but I can see situations where the threat of its use could dictate opponents behavior (i.e. "Pack everyone in to attack distance! I dare you!" for one example).
The man is glass-jawed, yes, but he's also cheaper than a Phoneix lord - and you keep Master Strategist. And the model is really cool. Really cool.
So - whose proxied/used him, how'd it work? Or what have people's thoughts on him been?
My thoughts are pretty much the same as yours, my original Eldar army was Yriels Elritch raiders, then the colour scheme sans tiger stripes got adopted by ulthwe as did the iconography, when the craftworlds were first published by GW, Yriel vanished
But now look at him, frankly I think he is spectacular, sure he aint got the fancypants move of many autarchs, but by god, if he gets into combat with something (not just meqs) he will kill it
Everything you have been told is a lie!
I picked up the model, solely on its coolness, before having sight of the codex. Thankfully his coolness was confirmed on a read-through. He may look out of place with my erstwhile Biel-Tan paint scheme in his blue and yellow, but I'm sure I will use him.
Is it just me, or would he struggle against Tyranid monstrous creatures (surely his favourite opponent )? Fair enough, he could pretty much guarantee 3 or so (I forget his no of attacks) wounds on one thanks to the spear if he charges, but any one of them could instakill him in retaliation.
Okay, taking on a Carnifex one on one isn't top of my list of things to do... but what's best to support him with in that sort of combat? Banshees, I'm thinking, or fire dragons to have melted the beasties down a bit beforehand? Or perhaps a Farseer and retinue with a bit of a doom/fortune combo?
The only thing I would take on a fex with is guns and wraithlords.
