Welcome to Librarium Online!
I use sniper drones quite often. I really love em:rolleyes:
but I was wondering...
everywhere I look, sniper drones and the spotter are NOT within unit coherecy. This is actually rather cool, but is it legit with the Warhammer rules?
cause it doesn't state in the codex that they don't need to be in unit coherecy. but if that's true, then why do even GW pic's show them seperatly?
GW Online : Warhammer 40,000 : Tau : Tau Designers' Notes
Not quite sure what you mean?
Naturally they have to maintain unit coherency, there are not special rules in the codex which say otherwise.
Do you refer to coherency with the spotter? In this case, no, I dont think they all have to be within 2" of him, just within 2" of another model in the unit (as per the usual rules).
Therefore they do not follow the same rules as Drones as wargear (they have to maintain coherency with the owner of the drone controller)...
At least I think I am right there? Can anyone prove me wrong (dont have any books to hand).
Actually, you're incorrect in that respect. The spotter has a drone controller, so the drones must maintain coherency with the unit he belongs to (in effect just him). If he dies, the drones go with him.
As for GW's pics, they're just F'ed up. Ignore them (and most GW Tau army lists).
Blais's Paint Studio-Getting broken armies good soft scores since 2009
Yup MasterShake has the right of it, the drones must be in coherency with the spotter and each other. However, each individual team(you can have 3 in one FOC slot) can be out of coherency with each other.
so... it's even worse then I thought. not only do they need to stay in unit coheresi with each other, but also with the spotter. that kinda screws my use for em....
still, that won't stop me from using em.:w00t:
Each team has to have coherency with itself, but you can have up to 3 teams that do not need coherency to each other.
Actually, is there a special rule that both drones have to saty in coherency with the controller? If so, where? I think it's okay at the least to have the drones strung out in a line, with the spotter at one end.
I don't have my codex with me, but I don't remember any special coherency rules.
(obviously everything has to be within 2" of something else)
Yes, that is what I was saying.
if u guys are right using drone snipers has serious risks attached - you loose the squad if the spotter dies!! thats harsh
I reckon this guys onto something - what if your snipers were not drones...
squad members dont just disappear, do they..
