Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am new to both 40k and this web site. I was wanting to pull together a 750 point bug army from the items I have to take to the local hobby store and begin learning the ropes by having my tucas handed to me by others.
(What I have to work with: Battle for Macragge, Tyranid Battleforce, and a few blisters I've picke up.)
Here is what I was thinking of taking. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate.
Broodlord (AM, FH) - 85
8 x Genestealer Retinue (FH) - 136
10 x Termagaunts - 60 pts
8 x Spinegaunts - 40 pts
8 x Hormagaunts - 80 pts
6 x Genestealer - 96 pts
2 x Ravener (RC, ST) - 80 pts
2 x Zoanthrope (WB, SC) - 130 pts
TOTAL POINTS - 707
Now this is currently only 707 points because I was debating taking either scything talons or extended carapace on the stealers in my broodlord retinue or taking 8 more spinegaunts. Which would be more beneficial? More cannon fodder or more survivability/more attacks?
Is there anything I should take that I'm not (i.e. Warrior Brood and/or Carny from the battleforce box).
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and insights!
good list. i'm guessing its for smaller battles so you're broodlord seems fine. take out 2 form his retinue and put them in your genestealer troops choice to make it easier to infiltrate and give them EC instead of ST.
instead of 8 spinegaunts and 8 hormagaunts i would would take either 12 hormagaunts or 24 spinegaunts.
raveners are good and cheap but keep them in 2 broods of 1 to help them live longer and you have a better chance of a good fleet roll.
hope this helps. good luck with your bugs.
Sir we have a lock on the Hive tyrant.
NO! SHOOT THAT SPORE MINE! OH GOD, ITS GOING BACKWARDS!
if someone helps you, give them rep.
Never take scything talons on the stealers...you want to keep them as cheap as possible. EC for the retinue is acceptable and flesh hooks can be great. Personally I would get rid of a bunch of gaunts and take a Sniperfex as most armies will have a problem dealing with him at 750 points. Other than that, the list looks good to me.
Thanks so much for the advice guys. I'm going EC with my stealer retinue of 6 now. When I get some extra funds I'll bolster my gaunts a bit so I can field more per unit as you suggested.
The scything talons on stealers is generally avoided in favour of more stealers, however ive kitted out my broodlords ret with talons to great effect. You must keep the ret small for infiltration purposes, so the extra attacks they offer are worth every single point if you play smart and get them into combat
I agree about the Scything Talons on the stealers as it depends upon what you are going to do with them and the size of the battle.
For small battles, I suppose you would try and avoid them in favour of more stealers, but in larger games I find that using my Broodlord with a retinue of EC and ST is HIGHLY effective.
And don't say its won't work because it has been tried and tested ever since the codex came out in many a tourney and friendly game.
You've just got to know how to place them and when to attack... Usually mid game works well. Then the enemy has been softened up a bit and they can pick out the juicier tough targets...
But I call to God, and the LORD saves me.
Personally I would throw in some Warriors for some good old Synapse Coverage.
Imperator Rex - Dei Castigator
Hmmm, I was hoping to set up a decent synapse web with the broodlord and two zoanthropes with the synapse creature power. Might I need more coverage?
