This is a pretty newb question, but I am getting an eldar army together for the first time and thought I'd see what some more experianced players would recommend. I have just unpacked and started to prime my first falcon. My first question is what do you guys prefere: scatter laser/shuriken cannon/starcannon. I agree with what I've read on the forums as far as using a str 6 or less weapon in this spot, however I am unsure which way to go with my modeling/army list. (I want to model the one I will use most often, and I realize that for most opponents it won't matter to call one weapon another, but I'd like it to match whenever possible.) I know it would make sense to have a complete army list to compare w/ the weapon choice, but I would like to hear what you use most often overall. My second questions is more a modeling question, and again is pretty newbish i'm srue. Is there a way to make the weapon changeable, or do ou need to glue it to falcon for good? On the same note, I have tried to find pictures of the starcannon on a falcon, and seem to be unable to find what eactly goes on the outside of the of the weapon. Any replies are greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
Hi DrTeeth (hi everybody ) welcome to the Forum. The answer to most Eldar questions are "depends on who you are fighting". Against Marines and the like ("Meqs") the Starcannon is better. Against lighter stuff the Scatter lasers shots will work out better. The Shuricannon I'm not mad on due to the short range. Although the Falcon can normally survive short range shots the added cost of a scatter is well worth it on something as expensive on a Falcon.
On balence the Scatter is probably the best choice the starcannon second and the shuri comes last, but its close and open to opinion. If your friends all play meqs the Starcannon may be better. Mine have Starcannons, but they have had them for a long time (plus I still kinda like them...).
As for fitting the weapons, many people use little magnets. Theres a tutorial on the forum and many people could give you advise. I'm generally happy enough to stick to what I glue on(boom, boom, tiissshhh), but the magnets are plenty strong enough to hold them securely.
I will not interpret these stats, just show them. Starcannon Scatter Laser Shuriken Cannon

For a Falcon I would recommend the Starcannon as it compliments well with the Pulse Laser. With this combination the vehicle can act as your main stay weapon against heavy infantry. Terminators, Battlesuits, Tyrannid Warriors etc, every armour has a unit of these and having tank to deal with them isn't such a bad idea since the rest of the army is quite capable already of handling lighter infantry (Guardians with Scatter Lasers and Dire Avenegers)
However, if you want a more multi-purpose vehicle then I guess the Scatter Laser fits the bill with it's increased fire rate.
As mentioned above the Shuriken Cannon upgrade isn't amazing due to it's short range, but being the cheapest upgrade you can afford up add a Shuriken Cannon under hull upgrade as well, effetively wielding two Shuriken Cannons and a Pulse Laser for some effetive anti-infantry firepower for a reasonable price. But even if this is the case, if you have spare points to afford a Scatter Laser instead of a Shuriken Cannon then I advise so.
For your second question on modeling, you can get a Starcannon that fits perfectly onto the falcon from the Wave Serpent boxed set. Of course buying a whole boxed set just for this weapon is silly so I advise you order a sprue with the weapons on it from the online store. Or if you're like me and dislike online ordering, if you have some friends with spare starcannons then you could ask them. The Wave Serpent boxed set also comes with a proper shuriken cannon under hull mount.
I agree with the above, scatter laser and starcannon first with shuriken cannon last. I'm still not sure out of the first two; 2 more shots of 4 better AP? Obviosuly it depends who you're against.
What I want to know is is it worth getting the shuriken cannon upgrade for the hull weapon?

Astantia, that is kind of misleading.
Going by base price difference the Starcannon costs around 5x as much as a Shuriken Cannon, but the cheapest Falcons with each weapon only have around a 7/6 ratio in cost.
Then pick a more cost effective platform.
For the cost of a Falcon with star cannon you could have 2 Vypers with dual shurikannons and 20 points to spare.
But this thread isn't about the platform, it is about the weapons. My cost vs. Effectiveness is not misleading, it is just that COST vs. EFFECTIVENESS.
I am simply outlining the weapons. At 18" range, the Shurikannon is more efficient than any other weapon.
Now, if you are planning on getting your Falcon within 18" of a target, you cannot beat a shurikannon falcon. If not, choose a different weapon. The scatter laser is the most cost efficient outside of 18", so it's a good choice. Some people choose the starcannon over scatter laser simply based on AP, which is fine, but I prefer to take something based on points efficiency. (lol at the Guardian army of mine...)

Depends on how you play:
If you play with the falcon as a transport, take the shuriken cannon. The weapon will be up close and so will have range. Its cheap and it works.
If you play with falcon as a far away tank then use the scatter laser.
I personally would only put the starcannon on a falcon anymore. Its a I'm no longer a fan of it as its too few shoots for its cost. At bs 3 this is a no no in my books.
If your playing a vyper, then if up close go shuriken, if you prefer farther away fire fights scatter laser.
I do plan on it being a transport, either for HtH or some anti tank probably in the form of fire dragons, but either way it will be up close and personal. My main opponent for the moment will be my friend who plays tau, and I know he likes to feild 3 broadsides (at least i think.. have yet to play him w/ those) among other power suits so I did like the AP 2 for that purpose. So from the sounds of it, the most point cost effictive way to go is the shuriken cannon at these close ranges, and I will probably try to avoid running the falcon straight at something like his broadsides right away. Thanks for all the discussion and comments, I appreciate all the feedback.
Those broadsides are going to be a problem. If I knew I was facing Tau; and I wanted to field a Falcon (and had no other platforms) I would go with the Starcannon and Shuriken Cannon on hull; simply for the reasons already pointed out. In general, I love using Broadsides as they rip up my opponent's vehicles, and there will not be any exception for you I am sure... just make sure ya always moving more than 6" for the glancing.
Oh and Shuriken Cannons have a ranger longer than 18"
