    Eldar codex a dud?

I recently got the Eldar codex and am contemplating starting an Eldar Biel Tan army in the near future, but I been surprised to see some people criticize the new codex, calling it a dissappointment and a rush job.

Eldar players are nearly nonexistant where I live, and since the codex has come out, there have been no new Eldar players, and some of the old eldar players seem to have started other races, leaving a big eldar shaped void.

Personally, I came to despise Eldar ( even though they were the first race I was interested in when I first encountered the game), but the new codex has reminded me why I loved them so much at first glance. Do any of the Eldar players feel the same, or has the codex dissapointed you in some way?

The only real disappointment I've noticed is the lack of craftworlds. Everything else is great. That's also how I feel, I miss Biel-Tan (dire avengerless biel-tan but I like the new avengers so. . .) but I love our new codex.

Now there have been a few issues layout / design wise I've seen, I prefer the old 40K layout, but not anything to go to a new race about.
Everything I have told you, even this, is a lie.

The new codex is quite good. Each Aspect unit has seen some improvements, the rules have changed for the better. For Example, Shining Spears, Dire Avengers both have been improved so they're more useful to have around then previously. Minimun guardian sizes have made for the better, I love that since i didn't like the way players bought them for cheap gunning platforms or large meat sheilds. Well you do have the codex so i'll stop.

The players who don't like them are probably ones who havn't seen them work properly yet or they just don't like the models.

...Or are powergaming scum who have had their main (and only) tactic ruined. Go GW!

Well, I like the new codex a lot, and most of the reasons have been said above. A lot of people dislike the books setup, although personally I love it; much better than any other codex IMO.

I suspect a lot of people got set in their ways and can't break out of their old playing style.

I'm happy with the new codex - there's a lot of variety and all the units can serve a viable role in a particular army, compared to the old codex when barely half were useful.

The loss of the craftworld variants was a shame, but you move on. Extreme lists are always going to be the ones that get toned down or removed with any new codex, and the Eldar were no exception. The Alaitoc got what they deserved .

I had a slow, but mobile, ulthwé list under the old codex with wraithlords and the usual units for the time. Now I'm using a lot of fast units (i.e. everything can move at least 12") and no wraithlords at all.

I welcome it - the old book was getting stale, I couldn't see an alternative to the army I used in the old codex.

The Eldar are balanced now. Roll on the good times.

The new layout of the book was the first thing I noticed when I opened it, and though it takes some getting used to, I think it makes the codex a true work of art with the entire first half being page after page of fluff, and the rules and list being conveniently summed up in the back.

I did notice the Craftworld specific lists are gone, and maybe its for the better. The new list makes it easy to model your army in the style of any of the craftworlds anyways (for example, Alaitoc still has its Pathfinders, and Iyanden can still take Wraithgaurd as troops), and even goes a step further and shows us the other craftworlds. The coolest new update has to be the return of Altansar.

Only thing is, now I have to choose the craftworld I want to do based on the fluff rather than the list... Such a hard choice! But I think I may go for Biel Tan since their paint scheme has always been pretty original.

It's a great and funny codex, the more I play it,the more I love it.
Only problem, there are 6 options for Heavy Supports:

    Prism
    Falcon
    Reaper
    War Walkers
    Platforms
    Wraithlord

Five of them are great\extremely playable, this means that 2 of them will always be left home...too bad.

I wish there was the chance to customize the list a bit more. Think about how many options a Chaos Space Marines has... ç___ç But on the whole Eldar Codex is extremely entertaining.

    Actually Playing:
40k : Necron ,Chaos, Space Orks ,Eldar ,Dark Angels, 'Nyds
WHFB : Orks & Gobbos, Vampire Counts

That's a good thing, though. In the old days you pretty much had to choose between the fast falcon or the slow wraithlord. Everything else was fairly dubious. Now you can choose a unit that fits your theme or fills a role in your army! The wonderful thing about the book is that you have to make a choice - default options like the old days are thin on the ground.

But that's not how the Eldar work. Eldar have a very rigid and precise attitude to everything they do. The Eldar path is a rigid set of specialisations - Trying to perfect everything is what led to their Fall in the first place. More customisation just wouldn't fit their background - a power sword to a banshee is what a cross is to a priest, a piece of holy equipment. To change the power sword for an axe would be sacrilege.

I wish there was a chanche to switch 2 Fast Support choices with a single Heavy Support >___< It's hard to make an all-comer list !

I agree that Aspect warriors should not be customized too much, but Autarchs and Farseers don't have many options. I think they should have been allowed to choose between more weapons\weird equipments, but that's not something I'll complain a lot. There's sooo many ways to build an army, so many good units, it would be a pain if I also had to waste a lot of time wondering about my HQ weapons options!

    But I NEED 4 heavies >_____<
