I just don't get it... At my local GW in Rotterdam, I only hear people say that Tyranids are really bad armies. Every single employee there really like the looks of them big beast, but when it comes to playing with them, they say the think the tyranids are a horrible army, and prefer (Chaos) Space Marines or Eldar or Tau.
But on the other hand, people I play against fear my Nid Critters. I had some times they begged me to play with my Grey Knight army instead!
But still somehow, I seem to only win my games with them. I mean, today I already won 2 games, one 600 points vs 700 points eldar, and lateron a 3000 points tyranid vs 3000 point Chaos/Necron/Eldar to finish our campaign we did this vacation. (which I won big time by the way )
Do people in your gaming area also think tyranids are a bad army?
Tyranids Win / Draw /Lost
Daemon Hunters Win / Draw / Lost
I don't think anyone (I know) thinks tyranids are a bad army in general, though there are some bad nid lists out there. I think the only reason some one would think the Nids are bad is because it is difficult for them to have a balanced list. So when tournament time comes around at least one person will have a list that will dominate you because you are going to have some weakness that you can't cover (too few models, not enough anti armor, not enough synapse to fight a highly mobile army, difficulty killing skimmers). I know I can make a list the does not have a few of these problems, but I can't cover all of them:If I want anti armor it costs me numbers, if I want to be mobile it costs me big bugs (to get more synapse), if I want to bring devil fexes to shoot skimmers I am either going to have to get rid of troops choices, or my anti heavy armor fexes. With an army like chaos you can bring a solid list that doesn't have as glaring of a weakness, if you play necron you kind of automatcally nullify an weakness except model number. Tyranids will always have something that can do a good job of taking you down in the list building phase of the game so your table top preformance is lessened before the game even begins.
They say it cause they simply don't understand playing with nids, we play differently to the armies mentioned armies.
They can't play decently so they just shift the blame on the army itself, I had a friend who also did that.
There are 'bad' armies out there and Tyranids is not one of them.
Dreachon pretty much summed it up. People like to blame stuff they don't understand how to beat / play.
The Tyranids are a very brutal army and certainly aren't underpowered / overpowered.
my, inverted commas "friend", hates tyranids and thinks they're too good. He found it hard to stomach that i could field 4 carnifexes, that i have a St 10 Ap 2 shot weapon (thrope obviously) and a massive big HQ beasty that could tear all his battlesuits to shreds AND it flew. This aside i am one of 2 people in our GW that uses nids. Everyone else is all orks, marines, eldar and tau.
Also i agree with u Dreachon. Tyranid players play a different ball game. Theres still tactics, but they're a little more subtle eg.
Ok my carnifex is uber powerful with 5 wounds, T 7 and a 2+ save. Im going to plod him towards that unit of 20 tau fire warriors and if im unlucky i'll get there with one or two wounds left. Now im in CC. Ah im safe. They cant even hurt me! MUHAHAHAHAHA! a slaughter ensues as you butcher his firewarriors and all he can do is cry. simple but effective
Sir we have a lock on the Hive tyrant.
NO! SHOOT THAT SPORE MINE! OH GOD, ITS GOING BACKWARDS!
if someone helps you, give them rep.
Funny thing is, that carnifex costs nearly as mych as the Nightbringer. Oh darn, does that make C'tan imba too?
People should really STFU and learn how an army works. The amount of times I have seen SM players bitch because hive tyrants can fly is stupid.
PROTIP: To kill a hive tyrant, shoot it with lascannons.
nids are a thinking man's army. you have strong advantages, but get balanced by strong disadvantages. anyone who looks at the nid list and says to themselves "eh just buy some bugs make them bigger and run fast as you can at the other guy is going to lose and lose badly
It's probably not a good idea to ask the question "are nids bad?" in a nid forum.
As a nid player - they're fantastic. Lethal, unrelenting, merciless, no rubbish fluff or angsting - just lots of gribblies getting Darwinian on your ass.
As a Chaos player facing them, they're one of the only armies i've lost against. I honestly think that they're well balanced and not over powered or underpowered like so many other armies out there.
Horay for nids. Horay for originality. Horay for rending.

I assume that you must be the only nid player in your area. Perhaps you should give your whining friends some advice. I find that an anti-nid Marine army will wipe me 9 times out of ten. Once you face an army with 3 landspeeds, a devastator squad with 4 heavy bolters, 2 dreadnaughts, 2 termi squads packing 2 assault canon each, a tough CC HQ squad and lots of small squads packing lascannons and plasma guns you will change your mind.
