One of my friends has just started collecting Tau, and doesn't yet have to codex. He just wnt out and bought the coolest looking model he could, which was a Crisis battlesuit commander.
I was wondering what weapon/wargear/drone combinations work best for this model - if you suggest what to give this guy please also provide its uses - ie is it a tank hunter, anti infantry, assault etc.
Any input is welcome.

Shas'el (a Tau "knight", not the full Commander with the 'O suffix) in the Fireknife config with Target Array. This is pretty much an all-around useful setup that is inexpensive and effective. He can bust light tanks with the Missile Pod & gun down Marines with the Plasma Rifle.
Basically, something similar to this that I just copied & pasted from the Army List section:
- Plasma Rifle, Missile Pod, Targeting Array, Hard-wired Multi Tracker
Drones are not necessary, and probably will get him killed faster.
I was considering using a Shas'el with a fusion blaster and missile launcher.. I haven't tested this combo or anything, but it seems like it could be interesting for hunting vehicle (especially flanking or deep striking and trying to hit the rear armour.) It's very poorly optimised for dealing with infantry, but oh well.
I've also been pondering the stimulant injector as a fairly cheap and managable form of protection which doesn't saccrifice IC status. While it won't protect against the major threats like lascannons and krak missiles, it's still effective against plasma guns and all kinds of small arms, and because it stacks with the armour save, should mean you need a lot of bolter hits to kill the commander.
EDIT: 3000 posts.. that's kind of sad.
If you want to run a Fusion Blaster, then I would go with the Helios 'El (FB/PR/TA/HWMT), and not combine it with a MP. The helios can be a bit hard to use at first, but it's worth it when you get it going. You can totally mess up heavy infantry and vehicles. Helios are quickly becoming my favorite commander.
If you want to stay back and shoot (taking advantage of the IC status), then go Fireknife (MP/PR/TA/HWMT).
But in honesty, at 1500 points, you'll want two 'El commanders, and I would suggest one fireknife and one helios.
Another option, mostly to kill light infantry, is the Centurion 'El (CIB/PR/TA/HWMT). Most people on this forum don't like him because of the fluxuation of the power of the CIB, but I've found him deadly against Eldar or Guard opponents. And 7 hits is nothing to sneeze at. He's much more popular on another forum I frequent.
Just my two cents.

If you don't have much anti-infantry I would agree with taking a Centurion 'El (CIB/PR/TA/HWMT). I took a bodyguard w/ AFP, TL BC, and MT with mine.
If you take the bodyguard as an elite and join them in-game instead you could still take the ejection seat on the commander - just make sure the bodyguard dies first.
The SI will be more effective when hunting infantry too.
