Hellions, lets discuss one of the cooler looking units in the game. What do you all think of these skyboard riding wyches?
I'm considering adding a squad to my force, as I mainly would use them as fun I'm not too worried about spending money on a weak unit. I was hoping some expirianced players could tell me more in depth what they think of Hellions, uses, tactics, opinions, ect.
The Hellions are the best looking DE unit we have but the one with the worst stats. You either get a splinter rifle shot or 1 close combat weapon attack, with +1 strength on the charge but not both. A 5+ save is not the greatest either and the only saving grace is their combat drugs, even so they are not worth their costs. They are suppossed to harry enemy units in support with other friendly troops but they just get smashed up for all their efforts.
Can't find a use for them in my army and would prefer Reavers anyday.
In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.
Hellions CAN fire their splinter rifles as they charge, as per the hellglaive special rules.
However, they are next to worthless in assault, and even a common tac squad will most likely get the better of them in assault. However, they may just still have a niche to fill out in our army as tank hunters. I am toying with the idea of using them as a GoS squad to hunt monoliths, but as I havent got my codex I cant remember how many haywire nades you can equip the squad with... help?
I just opened the codex...
probably I am blind, or my codex is a replica, but in the options (of the hellions) no granedas: "Up to one Hellion may be armed with a shredder at +15pts or a blaster at +10pts." That`s all.
And at the hellglaive`s desciption: "can`t be combined with any other weapon."
Did i help You?
Unless your playing really large games Hellions are not worth it.
They seem good on paper but in fact get owned so hard in game its not even funny for their points cost.
Hell they can't even take as many blasters as reavers (iirc reavers can take 2).
Them , add to the fact they are a 0-1 selection for some reason, and they really just become terrible.
Also, good on paper? Apart from Hit and Run, they look terrible.
Summing up, no really shooting threat, no real CC threat means one of worst units in the game IMO.
Then , add to the fact they are a 0-1 selection for some reason, and they really just become terrible.

If you want them for fun I say get them. They can be useful IMO if you roll luckly at the start you could have a unit with strenght 5 on a charge after firing a rapid fire weapon. They look so sweet too. So if you want a fun unit I say that they are great! Look sweet and move very fast. They're fun.
No question they are fun.
Problem is we don't have the liberty of taking fun units. When DE need a job done they take what is needed, not fun units that may do it and hope the rest of the army can pick up the slack.
I guess Hellions are a victim of the army's uniqueness (sp?).
As for hellions, they look cool and skillful, but they do suck in every aspect of battle. In other words, they are a simple waste, and the 0-1 availability option is a mystery to me as I would never include the unit in the army even if would have full elite availability. Also, the GW uses those fancy words like "multi-bladed skyboard" that just makes me mad, as the unit description never explains the unit's potential and even if its described in 15 sentences portraying nothing but great skill, the unit probably sucks.
I hope to see some changes in hellions, invulnerable save, more attacks, cheaper price , batter special rules and wutever, just make them better. Because right now, the unit (AND I AM NOT AFRAID OF THIS WORD)>>>sucks!
