Welcome to Librarium Online!
Is it just me, or do Tyranids absolutely rock at Cleanse missions??
I was playing at an unofficial tournament this weekend, and one of the games was cleanse. The guy (space marines of course) deployed close to the center, forcing me back into my deployment zone.... which seemed to both of us to be a smart thing to do...
And then I got first turn, and I realized that in Cleanse we only start 18" away!! I got a first turn charge with ALL 40 of my gaunts (1/2 hormies, 1/2 scuttling spineys)... he scrambled to fight them off, since they were blocking almost all of his LOS... and then I think just about everything else I had (flyrant, genestealers, leaping warriors) made a second turn charge on top of that! It was absolutely brutal! I think all he had left by turn 4 were his two vehicles (pred and razorback, I think).
Has anyone else found that Tyranids just absolutely rock at Cleanse Missions? 18" is nothing to us. And even if I didn't get first turn, and annihilate him, we are also probably the most mobile army out there, besides mechanized lists, so taking table quarters last-minute would be a breeze.
Well, from now on, I'm going to pray to Cleanse, when we're rolling off for missions!
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
His fault for deploying so close.
Yes cleanse can be close to each other (beneficial for nids) but he can deploy further back.

If anyone wants any kind of help writing fluff for any kind of GW army just ask.
how closer you can get to your opponent is always good for melee oriented nids. With indeed some luck, you could be able to charge in 1st turn, wich is really helpfull i you have 1st turn
Tyranids Win / Draw /Lost
Daemon Hunters Win / Draw / Lost
To echo Lordlink, that was a very poor choice.I was playing at an unofficial tournament this weekend, and one of the games was cleanse. The guy (space marines of course) deployed close to the center, forcing me back into my deployment zone.... which seemed to both of us to be a smart thing to do...
... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
Infiltrate really helps to deal with this problem too.
But nids rock period. No doubts about that.

What I've seen done a lot if you are the one to deploy first in Cleanse is to place the first unit (hopefully a cheap one) in the corner to force the your opponent back, and then you place all your other troops back at least 6" (preferably). That way even if your oponent gets first turn assault they'll only be able to hit one unit and not skip on to the next. The trick is to not let that one unit block LoS for the units behind it.
