If you give hellions plus 1 to strength with combat drugs, in their first round of combat it will probably slaughter anyone.

You can't choose the effect, and besides that all the others aren't any worse.
In fact in case of hellions there are better effects, rerolls and A+1 are more effective.

Rerolls are at least equally effective because they increase the average damage per attack by 50% due to a better chance to hit (against WS4+), A+1 increase the whole punch of hellions by 100% in normal assault phases, and by 50% on theturn when they charge.
S+1 on the other hand means a 33% damage bonus per attack on the charge, and 50% in subsequent phases.

I don't think hellions are really that bad. They take some work to use.. but I think that they have their uses

Eh, I still prefer Incubi as the bodyguard of choice. They're amazing.

Deepstrike somewhere behind a squad your already assaulting. If they fall back to hellions, they dead. If they dont, join the action.

With their hit and run tactics, it lets them take advantage by breaking off and being able to charge again for an extra attack.
