So I am fairly new to the hole WH40K thing so i have been slummin around the LO forums for a while now. I am looking to start a footslogging army and i get the whole gretchin/killa kan shield thing. However it seems that when people talk about footsloggers they also talk about what kinda fast atack to give them. Some say warbikes, some say stormboys, and I have heard wartracks and stuff too. So I would just kinda like to see what the general idea is on what is the best choice and of course why. This would be of great help. Thank you.
I like wartrack/warbuggie squads, with twin linked rocket launchers, turbo boosters, and red paint jobs.
Why? It means first or second turn tank killing abilities. You can fly at your enemy as fast as you can, hide behind a rock, then next turn, pop out and fire a handful or rockets into your enemy's tanks! It has worked well for me, but you have to make sure they can't be seen by many enemies, or else they will be taken down pretty fast.
Warbikes are good, because they have some pretty decent shooty abilities, and can move very fast. Plus, they have the special assault shooting ability, which can really tear up groups of enemies.
I'm not 100% sold on Ork bike mobs, i don't like the models, and the short range big shootas are interesting. I am completely sold on the use of Buggies with TL rokkits for tank hunting. Moving 12 shooting 24 with TL ability is nothing to laugh at. If you having issues with Armor 10 skimmers then use a squad of 3 Buggies with TL big shootas. At strength 5 you'll do fine in edition they are mobile terrain as when they blow up they block line of sight to your units.
Lastly, Storm boys are excellent if you want a fast moving army. They are an Elite slot and they definitely deserve to be there as they hit really hard if they get the charge. Taking Zagstrukk is always a good idea as he's a steal for his points. I would like to move towards being able to run 2 full storm boy squads, however you'll find they need to be mobs of 20 at least be effective and break lines
