So i wanted to return to my Speedfreaks and was thinking how to make the army as entertaining as possible while on bikes. I'm figuring the Toughness 5 and the cover save from bikes should keep them alive longer vs shooting. I know they'll be expensive but here's how i'm thinking of arranging at least the HQ.
Warboss on bike with Eavy armor, bionic bonce, Power klaw basically giving a 3+
Nobs with Eavy armor, bionic bonce, power klaws x3
-then 2 basic nobs on bikes with eavy armor to take wounds.
I'd also include deth koptas 3 slots and trukk boys.
Do you think this type of set up is feasible? I typically don't go with bikes, but i made a nice warboss on a bike some time ago and it worked out nicely. I used to use him to suicide against vehicles with the lots of attacks and help out in combat where possible.
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
I think it could work. I personally think warbikes are overpriced and prefer to ride in a battlewagon, but that's not exactly foolproof either.
It's just going to be pretty expensive, and probably Target Number One for the enemy... use cover and buggy screens wisely!
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
Those two Nobz in just 'Eavy Armour won't do much good. As soon as one falls, you'll HAVE to kill off a Nob with a 3+ by the Majority Saves rule. That is, if they don't get pie-plated by an AP3 weapon anyway - they still get instagibbed by Strength 8, though remember they also still get their 5+ pollution save. I think.
Personally, I think Nob Bikers are a waste of time and points, and slapping on a power claw will make them even more of a points sink. Power claws are for footslogger unit leaders, and probably for your Warboss, but if you WANT a unit of power claw Nobz, you want your Warboss and Nobz off their warbikes and in Mega Armour riding a Battlewagon. Or perhaps a Wartrukk, I dunno. I figure the 0-1 Battlewagon choice should be used as an empty transport so your Boyz have somewhere to run, rather than taking more of the things as transport options.
I put together a Warbike Boss and found it has only two uses:
1. An entire Warbike Army (yes, I have been collecting...). Whe he goes down, no one else cares...
2. When I want to spend less on HQ. He isn't required to take Nobz.
SM Player to the SM Player facing my Orks: "Who, in their right mind, moves towards Orks, Hunh?"
Also, don't forget the turbo-booster rule - if they move flat out at least 18", their armour save becomes invulnerable! (p76) With a 3+ save you should have a good chance of getting them into claw range if you turbo on the first round.
If you drop a shell on your foot an it don't urt, your shoota aint big enough!
