Hi guys, I was wondering if you all could take a few minutes and give me some tips on facing orks on a 2000pt level. My tyranid swarm can be rather flexible, I can go swarmy, tmc heavy, fast or shooty etc, so feel free to suggest anything that may work.
The orks I’ll be facing would probably be a slow ork army, capitalizing on cheap walkers and buried rokkit launchers and big shootas to bring me down before charging in. I was thinking of going gunflex heavy with 2x devourer tyrants, trying to burn his mobs down at 36” essentially out ranging him. However, I’m not sure what I should do against the eventual showdown with the hidden powerclaws and the looted basilisk. Also, im not sure which troop selection would work the best.
My one bit of advice: Barbed Stranglers, pie plates will cover numerous orks and with there crappy save you'll be killing them left and right.
Legion Of Everblight: Abyslonia
Protectorate of Menoth: Grand Exemplar Kreoss
I agree with pathofskulls that barbed stranglers are going to be the way to go.
If you are going for the most efficient way to beat him I would say that you have the right idea to out range him…something along the lines of 2 tyrants with toxin sacks, enhanced senses, venom cannon & barbed strangler
2-3 cheep heavy fexs with enhanced senses venom cannon & barbed stranglers for 148 points each. They can tear through a looted basilisk as well as mow down orks.
Perhaps some Elite devilfexs if you like.
Then lots of hormagaunts with adrenal glands (I) to tear through his base troops in CC. With the hormagaunts I would hold them back and make him come to you. You don’t want to charge forward and tie everything up in CC then make your long range monstrous creatures useless. Just wait till they move within 12” then charge them before they can get the charge off on you, then shoot at the models behind them.
For fast I would max out with toxic spore mines to drop down on him and his vehicles.
If you only take 2 carnifexs then I would take your 3rd heavy slot as 3 biovores with toxin mines.
Primary Army: Tyranids; Secondary Army: Space Wolves

I have found Nid shooting in general effective against orks as they do not tend to have great armour saves. You can get a lot of kills even with spinegaunts, although you do have to get close to the orks to be in range. Still, it's only spinegaunts...
Hive tyrant devourers and warrior guns are perfect for dealing with ork light vehicles, and the venom cannon really comes into its own as most ork vehicles are open-topped. In one game my gun-HT shot and destroyed three buggies with one round of shooting with a vc. And as noted by the other responders, barbed stranglers turn mobs into mulch and you even get a pinning test out of them!
You most certainly do not want the orks to reach your MCs or mid-sized creatures (warriors, zoanthropes etc) since choppas wreck Nid armour saves. Use rippers or gaunts to screen your big guys.
I have found genestealers of limited use against orks. Sure you will win initiative and kill a few orks in close combat, but there are always just so many orks that they will tend to be able to strike back, and they get a lot of attacks and you don't get an effective save = dead genies. That being said, if you can whittle a Warboss's posse down to six or less, a Broodlord with implant attack and a retinue is the cleanest way to get rid of them.
personally had an orc player scream at my spine gaunts, it amazing what 15 of these buggers can do to an orc squad, they are almost more reliable than stealers when fight foot slogging orcs.
Platypus has it pretty solid.
2 HT with BS and VC and ES.
3 fex with ES, BS, VC
3 squads of 3 warriors with BS, ES, TS, 3 Spinefists, and 2 death spitters (or devourers)
3 squads of 3 toxin spore mines
the rest in flesh gaunts (ignore armour save).
Sit back and let him come to you. 8 large blasts a turn that ignore saves and pin (when the units are below 12). Plenty of blasts to kill all his open topped vehicles, plenty to kill huge handfuls of orcs, and plenty of small critters to screen your warriors and big stuff from cc. Plus, you can sit at the board edge and fire away with your 36" guns.
16,000+ of Eldar (only need flyers)
7,000+ of Nids (want heirophant)
6,000+ of Space Marines (need rever titan)
4,400+ of Cygnar (all models for the faction)
1,500+ of Legion (just started)
Wait for him to slog over to you. Nids are better at shooting than orks, at least for number of hits. Than flood him with gaunts. You higher I should take his hordes down in size.
Prey they don't take you alive
