Welcome to Librarium Online!
Read here somewhere recently about a neat trick of using only three of the scarab stalks per base, instead of four. It would give me an extra two bases out of my battleforce if it can be done, but I'm just wondering what people who have done this have received by way of reaction. Anyone take 'em to a tournament only to find them banned for some reason? Does it look like a "cheapskate" thing to do?
EDIT: On the same topic, anyone know where I can get ONLY TWO of the larger bases? Don't wanna buy a bag of 1,000 of them.
I can't answer the second question except to ask: did you check the GW site or are they only selling them in bulk, Costco style? Also check your local hobby shop. But on the first question: use 3 stalks per base. Get more for your money. I wish I did for my first batch. You get 33% more bases. Don't worry what people at tournies think, they probably understand. You could also "dress up" the base some more if you don't want to look cheap. :shifty: Squeaks just posted a thread about using extra gauss rods as crystals (Extra Gauss Sprue)(linked).
Actually, on the second topic, it is my understanding that the base sprues come with 4 bases each. A box of Warriors will have 12 Scarab stalks and a sprue of bases. Divided by 3 you get 4 Scarab "models". 4 models, 4 bases: you should be set. What happened to all your spare bases?

Does it state somewhere there have to be 4 scarabs? If someone asks.. just tell em one is coming from underground, still reaching to the surface. Another thing you could do, is even model 2 on a base, and model an occaisonal 4th on a base. I makes it more dynamic in my opinion.
As for the bases... I got a load of spares.. but given your location I think it'd be cheaper to buy a bag at GW then me sending over 2 or so.
But then again, I never had this problem with any of my models... Marines go on single bases. And also... I never attended any GT.

I believe the "1 model per wound" thing for bases came up on the GW forums when they existed and someone of importance said "there must be 1 model per wound per base" or words to that effect.
While it is a grey area in some respects models must be WYSIWYG and a minimum of 3 scarbas is logical.
While there is nothing saying you can't use a single scarab to represent the entire base I think that would be pushing the spirit of the game a bit too far.
Besides, just using 3 per base is plenty, its inadvisable anyway to take more than the max 10 or so bases per FA slot.
Really 3 works well because they have 3 wounds. So it is great really because you can save money on scarabs.
Prey they don't take you alive
You get 3 bases and 12 'stalks' in the box.
I agree, 3 scarabs per base should be enough.
If you want to avoid any discussions though , just take one scarab and cut it in half, then glue both halves to the base. without the stalk. If anyone asks simply say "Look, this one is coming out of the grund, and this one is just burrowing back in. To assault from below, you know?"
It might look a bit strange to have all scarabs either coming out or burrowing in but if you don't mind this, you can double your number of bases
Not in my game you won't!!
