How many genestealers if any do you usually get? More importantly how do you group them? One large group or 1-3 smaller groups? Especially vs overly shooty armies *cough* Tau *cough*. Thanx!
For my parts I use 3 groups of stealers, 6 - 6 - 12
i dont play nids but i wud have 1 big sqd ov 16.
PROUD TO BE IN THE BRITISH ARMY.

You cant have 16 of them in a group, 12 is the max. I usally go for 2 squads of 9. Why are you using genestealers againsts Tau anyway? For 12 genestealers you could have 38 spinegaunts. Better choice IMO. Even better you can have 2 Lictors to tie a lot of fire warriors. If you use 2, dont use them againsts one squad. Get each by one squad of 12 fire warriors. Thats 24 shots a turn that your not getting shot at, plus your causing chaos to his troops. So when they die for fall back, he is going to over kill the Lictors and waste a lot of shots.
To tell the truth the only reason i'm using genestealers aginst Tau is that the Tau player insists that there's some kind of rule where he can take Eldar units with his tau. He happens to own a Wraithlord. That's why i'm taking genestealers. Plus they're the only nid troops who can really contend with vehicles and heavy armor. I'm thinkin of using them on things like crisis, broadsides, maybe a hammerhead if i can catch one. If i didn't use them tho i'd take spinegaunts and rippers instead.
............Tau and Eldar?? Never heard of such thing. Wouldnt it be nice to have my UltraMarines and Tyranids together. Where is that rule, ask him, and if you cant find it in the codex then dont let him use it. Anyway when you are fighting againsts the Wraithlord make sure that you weaken it down to 2 wounds from Warpblast(str 10 ap 1) or a Venom Cannon Before your genestealers get into combat with a Waithlord. To take down a hammer head get a Carnifex with a Venom Cannon, 2 strength 10 shots should bring it down by turn 2. NEVER get into close combat with it unless you have imoblized it. With genestealers it doesnt matter if you imobized it or not, you still need a 6 to do anything to it. But I would leave the stealers to go after the elites,(stealth guys and such). The suits will cause you a problem to your big guys. If he is smart than he will use plasma guns and shoot it againsts your Tyrant. Make sure that you Tyrant has wings or body Guards. I also wouldnt recomend to get any of your TMC's in combat with the Wraithlord, you might kill it, but you will pay a large price for it.
Yeah my hivetyrant is best mates with my wolflord, i should use both armies together, those bloodclaws of mine have so much fun playing football with the gaunts...hehehe my hivetyrant borrowd my wolflords belt of russ now i have a inv save for my tyrant hehehehe
igolddragon85 if your friend is taking models from 2 armies without good reason...for example a huge battle, then say No... if he was fielding 2 armies with two seperate force organisation charts and called themn allies then that would not be so bad...
but then you could do the same...
armies in 40k have balance some are better at some things than others...just picking and choosing certain units from different army is blatently cheating

I like to field 3 squads of 12 genestealers, ah the rending claws! but thats mainly because i face alot of power armour marines and necrons, also theres alot of cover for them to hide behind on my board. I wudnt use this many genestealers against Tau tho as they wud jus get shot to bits! also a squad of hormagaunts cud take down a squad of fire warriors for less points and more models, dont use your genestealers to take out vehicles I, for one, have had alot of bad experiences with vehicles blowning up and killing half my brood! Bloody Rhinos!
It is feasible for both Eldar and Tau to ally against a tyranid fleet but there is no official rule, im 90% sure of that. So you can jus say the use of wraithlord is illegal and tell him to remove it, but if ur feelin lucky u cud still take it down with ur nids, that wud shut him up *chuckles*

--- Well, if he insists... Of course, You should insist that he show You the rule in the Codex. Or the GW online CA FAQs. Or the CA2004. If he can't, then that's his problem.Originally posted by golddragon85@Feb 15 2004, 14:29

If it turns out that he's fielding two detachments, with Eldar as allies... Using more than one detachment should be agreed upon beforehand, it's not something he can just do when he feels like it.
Back on topic, I field either one large (12) or two mid-size broods (8-10) depending on my mood.
