Welcome to Librarium Online!
So i just thought i would share the results of my battle yesterday against tau.
Well it didnt look too great, there were plenty of bodies racked up from the shooting. However, once i made it into close combat with the tyrant it evened up totally (stupid kroot dont add anything to the tau mwahahahaha).
Anyways, i had a standard gunfex but i only managed to hit with the barbed strangler once. and even then all it did was kill a few gun drones. I hate gun drones.
This led me to wonder if any of you thought it would have been a better idea to field a devilfex with four devourers as opposed to the three shots you get with the gunfex.
What do you think? It would be cheaper, and free up some points for either improving my genies or adding more of them.

YMMV. You're trading range and power (but lower reliability) for reliability (but lower range and power) - plus about two more stealers.
I went the other way and added a second gunfex to deal with the reliability problem. Between them, they can generally discombobulate a vehicle per turn. They also attract a heck of a lot of heavy weapons fire that would otherwise be hurting smaller, easier-to-kill units - like genestealers.
well if you need the tank busting stick with the shootyfexes, otherwise go with the devilfexes. A re-roll to hit and wound really makes your enemies cringe.
I also agree that the venom/strangler fex kind of sucks... it's a lot of points and really isn't all that reliable. BUT, it's the best anti-tank the Tyranids can get, and because of that I always take 2 of them in my 1500 point list.
I don't use the devilfexes at all personally. Yes, they are great suppliers of AP-zilch wounds, but I think that Tyranid armies tend to already have plenty of these (one word: gaunts). I think it's the more potent attacks, such as AP2 and anti-tank attacks, that are harder to effectively squeeze into Nid lists...
Err, by AP2 I mean rending/TMC attacks.
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
Though Lincoln IMO devil/dakka fexs are extremely flexible and not to mention dang cheap too. I always laugh when my oppenets kill one of these guys as they feel pround and I always say in my head (but it was only 113 pts you killed from all that shooting...). Plus can gaunts fire 8 rerollable to hit and wound str 6 guns I think not plus they are a bit more reliable then gaunts and a better range.
Then again it all comes down to what you want in your list and that the nice thing about nids is you don't have to run what everyone else is running to be effective.
Is it me or does any other necron player get annoyed when they see people saying "Necrons eat souls". How is that even possible as souls are part of the warp and necrons want nothing to do with it? Eh probaly me just me being picky.
