Ok I hoping that later this month I will be going to a gamma level 2 1,500 point cityfight tourney. You guys have any advice on what stratigems to use( we're alowed 2) or helpful tactics or what to take.
Prey they don't take you alive
My best guess would be to use a WWP and focus on CC. The carriers would be easily sheltered by the ruins of building so you dont even have to use multi wound characters as carriers, as a simple sybarite will probably do the trick. If you find some decent cover to deploy 2 or 3 raiders out of LOS, and hop your way closer to the enemy I think you would be in a great position to deploy WWP.
I highly recommend wych units with 2 blasters each for tank busting to jump out of cover or area and shoot, also I think reavers with sybarite and blasters will proove to be very useful to surround and blast apart chimeras and rhinos. If you play on a 4 by 4 then taloses are a fair choice, however be careful because their movement rules will sometimes make them take wounds since there is a high chance they will end over difficult terrain and be forced to take a wound with a save allowed. Lastly, warp beasts are a good choice, 75 points is affordable in my opinion in return to what they will do when they hit the 10 man guard/tau unit on a charge, plus they move well through difficult terrain. A ravager is quite iffy because there is an art in using him in city fight, one has to keep moving, use speed to jump from cover to cover while firing and shoot things from the side and rear.
Overall, I think you wil have a ton of fun cause I love city fight, hope to hear the details about the battle...
Read up on the Cities of Death rules about terrain and disembarking as I think they are different form the main rules (?). IIRC everything except roads is classified as difficult terrain. And also IIRC you cannot disembark into difficult terrain, which of course means you can only disembark on a road. So if you want to disembark onto a building roof, you have to take the Strategem that allows it. Oh yeah, some roads may also be classified as difficult terrain depending on your board/terrain, further limiting your disembark options.
Talos are good objective takers in 4+ cover. Very hard to kill a T7 4++ creature.
Any unit with FoF is valuable for the obvious reasons. But the converse is also true, unit's without FoF pay a heavy movement penalty and are pretty much useless.
War Record Since Sept 2005
Old Codex 48-20-9 Dark Eldar
New Codex 1-0-0 Dark Eldar
I recently posted 'Cities of Death Stratagems' in the DE Forum. Have a look see.
Good luck with the tourney.
