My friend is building a Necron army and Im going to build a Tyranid army,
Whats the best combination of Tyranids and tactics to use against
Thanks : >
quantity, not quality, target their smaller units and leave their bigger things alone...
big creatures, necrons have few ap2 weapons and so your carnifex/tyrant with 2+ save is going to survive a while.
get a big flying hive tyrant and give it 2 sything talons and rush it into the nearest warriors. youll tie them up, and cut down his numbers for a phase out. Stay away from the C'Tan with your big stuff though. They have a habit of killing even "invincible" creatures(a guy from where i live once had THREE wraithlords angainst ONE night bringer, and the wraithlords died)
Should i give any of my tyranids guns as a weapon choice or just rely on close combat?
Warp blast for eventual zoanthropes and winged hive tyrant, venom cannon for a carnifex (happy monolith hunting), nothing else.
That bonus attack which you can get for scything talons is usually way more effective than a ranged weapon, not only against necrons - just because you spend more time in close combat than shooting, and there are two close combat phases per turn.
Your carnifex a vennon cannon or a devourer becase a VC can only do glancing hits and with a devourer you get 6 str 9 shot but the only thing that is bad is the range. or give him the VC cause it has a good range.
A carnifex with a devourer would have only four shots, that bonus attack which is gets for scything talons doesn't count. Assault X weapons use the attacks characteristic from the profile, no modifications possible.
Go for a small species army, big gaunt broods and lots of rending claw mutants. Rolling a 6 for on rending claws also means no "we'll be back" roll for the necrons.
- Rush a squad of gaunts into the door of the monolith, if he has one, this will reduce the effectiveness of the monolith as a warp portal.
- Don't allow him to regroup if he falls back. I haven't used this myself, but I've been told that necrons will fall back (perhaps somebody else will explain this in detail) but if you stay within 6" of the necrons they will not be able to regroup and will have to fall back again. All you have to do then is to 'escort' them off the table
I agree w/ you thehivemind5, don'tlet your bigger creatures anywhere near C'tans. One of my friends has the Scythe Heirodule and at the GW place in Glen Burnie one of the people there should how powerful nightbringer was. It took 3 turns for the Heirodule to die, but in the end the nightbringer didn't have a single wound while the heirodule was slaughtered.
