In all honesty I would not bother, unless your happy to acept the restrictions of the farsight list (which you have stated your not) then do not bother, Shadowsun is a quite poor character, she is not an IC while she has her drones which means she gets none of the benefits, she is expensive and her weaponry maks it dangerous for her to operate because the range means she has to get very close and without IC status it can be a very dodgy proposition for her, Aun'va is just a pure waste of time and not worthy of any consideration.
I would just go for a XV8 commander and I would even advise avoiding all the special issue gear and weaponry, just take a Shas'El with helios or fireknife, they will be much more useful and cheaper with all the IC benefits.

Yes, the Tau special characters are very lacking in my opinion. With all of our technology, you would think that they would be able to realize that CC is an important part of the 41st millenium, and make a powerfist or something. I think GW should give us cooler Special characters, especially since Necrons are running around with star gods, and we have another person in a cooler crisis suit.

Its called imagination. If only we could imagine some sort of Tau embodiment of a god.

(Eldar, Chaos, Necron, seriously.)

Apparently you are unfamiliar with the Daemonhunter special characters. ;) Easily the lamest special characters available in 40K. I'd play a Farsight enclave or include Shadowsun once in a while because they are at least viable, fluffy models that will mix twist your usual army up in a potentially fun and interesting way. There's no way in hell you could convince me to include either of the DH characters in any army, for any reason whatsoever.

A Tau God? Ha! The Auns laugh at you.:ninja:

Anyways, yeah, Shadowsun seems a bit too specialised. She's fairly hard to kill, yes, and she can pack a punch with tanks, but she'll definitley be getting the attention owed to her and will probably be killed rather quickly. I play a tank-hunty Commander (FB, PR, SG), which is similar to Shadowsun. Except he can Deepstrike and cost less. And I always expect him to die. Save your points and use them for battlesuits or a tooled Commander. I would much sooner take O'Shovah and field all those spiffy battlesuits he allows. Long story short, if you want Kroot and Vespid in successful armies, stay away from Special Characters.
