I recommend Gaurdians, Dire Avengers and a dual heavy weapon Wraithlord as the basis for a shooting army, supported by a Farseer of course. The Wraithlord will be able to protect you from combat units while remaining within 6" of a psyker quite easily given the Farseer and Warlocks. Also his decent ballistic skill will provide you a decent anti-tank platform. Gaurdians supported by Embolden you will find them very resiliant to morale checks, I've experienced many times where the re-roll of a leadership test have kept my Gaurdians in the fray, slot them in some terrain and they can be fairly resiliant. Lastly Dire Avengers provide excellent Anti-infantry fire power, although Gaurdians can also specialise in this area the addition of Dire Avengers can offer a larger volume of Garenteed shots.
With the above mentioned as a base army, all it leaves is the mobility side. While Gaurdians, Dire Avengers and Farseers can fleet of foot the Wraithlord is unable to catch up if they do. So to support the base I recomend adding fast units on top if this, typically Warp Spiders, Jetbikes, Vypers, Falcons and Fire Prisms. Swooping Hawks have their place too although I personally prefer the harder hitting Warp Spiders as Swooping Hawks would struggle a bit should you come up against the tougher armies such as Imperial Gaurd Mechanised, Chaos Thousand Sons or Plague Marines. Keep note Fire Dragons also do well when Transported by a Falcon or Wave Serpant.
Vypers, Jetbikes and Wave Serpents are excellent units when you've Heavy Support slots to consider. Large squadrons of Vypers equipped with Dual Shuriken Cannons or a Shuriken Cannon and Scatter Laser offer a barrage of strength 6 hell upon your opponent. Their advantage is they're cheap so avoid upgrades to make them resiliant. Jetbikes are also cheap and excellent for harrasement in combination with a Shuriken Cannon, however add a warlock with a Singing spear and Destrutor and you'll have a very flexible and hard hitting unit. Waveserpents can give you stuff like Dire Avengers and Fire Dragons more mobility, but if you're tight on heavy support choices their twin-linked weaponry will enable you to access a reliable anti-tank vehicle. Expensive though however.
Lastly the in a shooting army fixed support units such as Dark Reapers and Weapons Platforms. I'm not too fond of Dark Reapers as they can get caught out by faster moving units, the Tempest Launcher can help in this respect but you also loose the strength of a Missile Launcher. Thus I have a preferance in D-cannon platforms, whom can shoot over terrain and do not rely on ballistic skill. Also the 24" act as a caution barrier to the opponent, anyone will be wary of coming into range of 1-3 strength 10 blasts. This will hopefully provide excellent cover for your base unit.
guardians with scatter laser platforms (2 platforms is good) as many dire avengers as possible nd split them into 2 or 3 squads so u can bladestorm with 1 and still shoot with the other ooo and a farseer who can cast doom. any heavy support go for dark reapers they can handle almost anything from troops to tanks bt they are expensive. it jst depends who ur up agenst
"Spartans! Ready your breakfast and eat hearty... for tonight, we dine in hell!"
Leonidas - 300
Hydra Sparus Eldar - W-19 D-3 L-5
these are the shootiest!
But I play shooty plus mobile,
Troops: jetbikes with shuriken catapults where possible
Fast attack - vypers with 2 shuriken catapults (2 squads of 2 at the mo)
HS: 3 war walkers with scatter lasers, 3 war walkers with shuriken cannon
one nightwing (or a war walker with 2BLs for those occasiona when my opponent flatly refuses to face Forgeworld)
that is around 75 str 6 shots per turn, because of the mobility, I can apply the shots where I want, and assault armies struggle to get close to them
Everything you have been told is a lie!
