I'm getting a bit game starved at the moment not like I don't have access its game night at GW headquarters 45 minutes from my house (by foot with an army) RIGHT NOW, but I do have other commitments like I am working.... well when not positng I'm working at the moment so I've had a somewhat sparse number of games in recent months, the most recent being a poor fight with some sisters of battle, who, well they're sisters of battle, it was more of a massacre, I actually felt mean, like I was picking on little kids or something.
The core of this post is has anyone had a really tight exciting game with their DE recently? Won or lost I don't care, just someone tell me of something cool that happened (not an entire battle report just like one moment or turn or whatever the coolest thing in the game was.) Thanks in advance
A little while ago, my decapitator (in the space of two games) took out an entire squad of space marine sniper scouts and got mobbed by about 25 gaunts. In the first instance, he popped up and massacred the snipers, leaving my opponent with a look of shock and terror. Next game, as soon as the decap popped out he blew him away with a missile or something Total waste on his part... The game where the decap got surrounded by gaunts (shooty gaunts at that), he fell under the weight of a bajillion attacks... Oh, well...
I'm trying to catalog every song with a reference to yetis or Sasquatch. Please help.
At our GW store there was an employee who played an incubi heavy portal list. Archon, dracon, incubi master, incubi and Drazhar (about 900 points worth in 1500 points). He played a portal list that had all 900 points of incubi in the web and used Scourges and a sniper squad to drop a first turn deployment of the portal. I didnt care for his style of play, he always seemed to find the cheesiest way to play any game and embraced it. We played each other to see who the better player was (bragging rights) so I played Wych Cult with Lelith and a Kroot hound pack (kinda cheesy myself but I was still experimenting with kroot as it was only the 2nd time I used them).
I won first turn so I gave Lelith and her retinue 12" charge and I infiltrated the Kroot Houndpack, got 4" on the "blood of the stalker" and they fleeted with another 5" on top of the 6" movement (they moved 15" from where I infiltrated them). Lelith ended charging a sniper squad that had one portal and the Houndpack ended up charging the Scourge Squad which had the other portal. By the end of his turn 1 both WWP carriers were dead and he gave up.
He did have one other unit on the board but all they managed to do was kill 2 warpbeasts - they were going to die as they caught the eye of Lelith and hounds of baskerville. I still had 2 squads of wyches that never got off the raider as it ended so fast. Needless to say we did play again without the Kroot or Lelith at 2000 points and I beat him again (this time I let him deploy the portals).
I recently fought a Speed Freak mob with it's Kroot allies. On Turn 1 the bikes and kroot assaulted and in turn 2 I counter assaulted. By turn 3 there wasn't much left and by turn 4 I think the only models on the table were a few scorcha buggies, the Looted Russ, my Gunboat and the Archon. Unfortunately he claimed more objectives and got a minor victory. But the first and second turns were sooooo bloodly.
Casualties by end of turn 3:
20 kroot, Master Shaper, 10 Kroot Snipers, 8 bikers, 2 scorchas, 1 truk, 10 truk boys, 10 tank bustas, Warboss
20 dark eldar warriors, 19 wyches, Drachite, 8 grotesques, Talos, 2 Ravagers, 3 Raiders
War Record Since Sept 2005
Old Codex 48-20-9 Dark Eldar
New Codex 1-0-0 Dark Eldar
This is an old post but I think that its still interesting and I doubt if you have seen it yet.
This army composition came about after considering the sage advice "don't take too many dark lances as it will make the army unbalanced." Then I thought well why not analyse this and see if its is really true (wierd things can happen when my medication wears off!)
The whole point of this is to include as many dark lances as possible into a 1500pt army and make it work - Tau eat your heartout!
Here goes then:
HQ Drachon - Agoniser+ splinter rifle
Retinue of 5 warriors/2 dark lances+ 3splinter rifles *(2 of these units)
Raider Squads - 5 warriors/1 dark lance+ 3splinter rifles *(5 of these units)
Raiders have Dark Lances
Elites - 5 mandrakes
Heavy Support - 5 Scourges/4 dark lances+1 splinter rifle *(3 of these units)
This should max out at 28 of the dreaded dark lances for 1499 points. But before anyone critisises this as being gun heavy please stop to consider how this would actually play out in the field.
I intend to use the HQ"s as close up fire bases (move them into position closer straight away), the raiders are unmanned and move forward to take the brunt of enemy firepower, the warriors can roll forward in a leapfrog motion - one squad moving every second turn whilst the other stops and fires and the Mandrakes are a sacrificial unit there to bog down things like Carnifexes so I can reload the lances and fire.
There potentially could be 28 dark lance, 27 splinter rifle, 2 splinter pistol shots every turn with the mandrakes extra 5 shots coming on after turn 3.
The average kill ratio on marines is 0.5 per shot with a lance, that makes about 14 dead per turn and thats just from the lances! Armour would be annihilated completely and only indirect fire would be a problem.
Add to this 27 splinter shots, fleet of foot where needed and 15 scourges to act as rapid response.
I know this is extreme cheese and is a very much unbalanced force but what fun it is to use, try it out and see what happens.
Actually had the chance to try out this weird army on the weekend against Ultramarines and guess what, it didn't work too well. The main problem I had was small squad size and their attendant morale checks and the scourges got shot to hell and back straight after moving. That darn whirlwind paid for itself 5 times over with indirect fire - just could not take it out. Well can't say I didn't try!
In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.
First my army
Funny enough I used kroot in my 1500 Wyche Cult list as allies! My experience was similar to KwiKwag's as I also infiltarted them hoping to tie up some IG until my raiders and wyches hit the table. hey worked a charm taking out a few heavy weapon squads and drawing fire allowing my two large squads of warriors w/ DLs and portals to set up. Once the Wyches hit the IG lines the battle was over in two turns. He tried to get fancy and take out my carriers but i had them protected by warp beasts - I find a large squad w/ beasts flanking them work really well.
Now i hear guard players say that DE are a relatively easy opponent for them. Our skimmers are pretty fragile. I have not found guard all that tough to play against myself.
In one of my games against my IG mate one of my sniper squads got reduced to one guy with a dark lance ... and hell was he a beast. He lastet till the end of the game (four turns) and made his "last man standing" test every round without flinching. On his first solo round he destroyed a chimera, stranding its inhabitands in a deathly killzone, next round he maneuvered himself into a nice position and tried to sniper the IG general ... first round of fire he killed the guy with the radio, next round it was the general!!! this guy was really awesome ... story wise he got promoted to drachon and is my archites subordinate when I use one.
i play dark eldar and my best friend plays ork hes never won a game against me so i thought i would give him a chance i would use 1000 points and he would use 3000 points we set up on a big table and he advanced on me with everything i hade 5 squads of warriors 2 squads with dark lances 3 with Scannons which won the fight for me in the end i lost 800 points to his entire army it was bliss:yes:
I've had a few... once went through a game without anything of mine dying, without even having to take a single armour save or anything of the sort.
