Welcome to Librarium Online!
Could somebody point me at the most up-to-date list of what Tyranid units class as 'infantry' for the purposes of Escalation missions and some CityFight stratagems? Big Book says one thing, some of the descriptions in the Nid Codex say or imply other things. Thanks in advance.
I dont' have my codex with me, but I am guessing that Infantry include all regular gaunts, (not homrigaunts), Genestealers (and brood lord), rippers, and warriors --(lictors would be they don't seem to count for what you are looking for). Everything else is either monsterous, a beast, living artillery, or jump infanty. Again though, I don't have my codex, and I don't use zoans or biovores so I am not certain on those two.
I would assume that infantry will refer to anything that isn specifically something else, such as mcs, beasts or jump packs. That means for infantry you have broodlords, stealers, non-winged warriors, lictors, gaunts, non-winged rippers, thorpes, biovores and spore mines. I never played city fight and don't have the book so I don't know if there are other rules.
Some people have argued that thorpes and biovores count as artillery because of the living artillery rule, but they don't meet the description provided in my rule book, (that they have a weapon with vehicle characteristics and men in the squad and damage can be dealt to either) so I would say that they are infantry. It is much the same as guard heavy weapon squads.
Hope that helped.

On the question of zoans and biovores, I'm going to point you to this thread about zoanthropes. (Zoanthropes and escalation?) It was covered in a fair amount of detail there.

Thanks for these - and the link.
I can see some arguments coming up, but at least I have some reasoning to borrow...
thropes and biovores are infantry the "living infantry only applys to being unable to capture table quarters and objectives
Zoanthropes are as much "artillary" as Warrior are "beasts" (since warriors have the Leader Beast rule).
Now, according to my tyranid codex, my warriors only move six inches a turn (unless they have wings), cannot fleet, and only charge six inches (unless leaping is purchased). Which means that they're not beasts. Thus, by that logic, zoanthropes are infantry.

Before actually playing escalation with nids, I used to think that we might be at a disadvantage, since our units are so interdependent. But when you actually look at our lists, the vast majority of our stuff is all infantry... So as long as you have some warriors and zoanthropes for synapse, (and you're not playing a godzilla list), Tyranids definitely have the upper hand in escalation games.
Things that ARE infantry:
Warriors and Leaping Warriors
Lictor (not that it matters)
Things that ARE NOT infantry:
And I'm actually not sure about rippers... they're swarms, and small targets, but neither of these affect their movement rate, so I don't know.
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
Codex states 'thropes are "Living Artillery", meaning they can't capture table quarters, hold objectives, etc. etc. etc.
Ignoring Rules-as-Written, and maybe spirit of rules, instead, I get the distinct impression something as a heavy support choice, with the label "Living Artillery" Barrage weapon, crew or not, would still not be infantry. Think of it this way: Anything on Foot that's not something else would be infantry. 'Thropes have no feet. They're big giant heads.
Do not meddle in the affairs of Tyranids, for you are crunchy, and good with ketchup.
Is it me or does any other necron player get annoyed when they see people saying "Necrons eat souls". How is that even possible as souls are part of the warp and necrons want nothing to do with it? Eh probaly me just me being picky.
