Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm just wondering i have looked over most of the army listes and discussion on the treads and nobody really uses the wraith guard at all. None of the list I have looked at ever us them in turny or for fun lists. Are they to point expensive or not the effective in normal game play.
they are a little pricey there gun is kinda short ranged (though a wave serpent could take care of the latter problem).
Also if i recall correctly monstrous creatures can't be autokilled by wraith gaurd because they are too big to fit through the hole or something like that. This eliminates half the things you really want to kill with these guys like statured princes, Tyrants, fexes, enemy wraithlords, c'tan and such. Of course there are those times when you suck and unstatured chaos lord into the warp, or a tooled up librarian, good times...
But if you are finding a good use for these guys then keep it up, makes your army all the more unique!
well to my knowledge the only thing the wraith gun does not work on is creatures that can not be insta killed so if it a monstrous creatures or not it will be killed.
the only exclusions to the insta kill rule are nids under synapse and power armour runes and mantle so if your right then mi buddies wraithlord should've been toast?
oh and as for the question primarily i think they are unused mostly cuz the models are butt-worthy
"take my love, take my land, take me to where i cannot stand, i don't care i'm still free you can't take the sky from meee" ;- firefly
"i'm gonna grant you your greatest wish i'm gonna show you a world without sin" ;- serentiy
"I am a leaf on the wind, watch how i soar" ;- serenity
I'd say the main reason is that the models cost way too much for what they can achieve on the table top.
- Just love that maki! -
Yeah, the only thing that wraith cannons can't insta kill is tyranids that are within synapse- so no instakill on warriors, zoes, hive tyrants, carnies or the like. All other MCs can certainly die to a one shot.
And the reason you don't see many WG is that 1-points wise they are kinda pricey 2- model wise they are VERY pricey. 3-fire dragons can still better in most circumstances for 1/2 the cost.
16,000+ of Eldar (only need flyers)
7,000+ of Nids (want heirophant)
6,000+ of Space Marines (need rever titan)
4,400+ of Cygnar (all models for the faction)
1,500+ of Legion (just started)
Basically, it depends on what you like - more shots or survivability. Having the same toughness and basic save as the average MC makes them an intriguing unit.
Having an army and not owning a rulebook is like owning a car with no steering wheel.Originally Posted by amishcellphone
as others have pointed out, their short range and comparative slow movement makes them less effective tyhan other options in the eldar codex, historically therefore they have been limited to those players that used Iyanden armies, which were few and far between, even then they used to be an anoyance to players who really just wanted loads of wraithlords
nowerdays, I have seen a few lists with them in, but generally for fluff reasons (still iyanden lists.
Using them as troops is poor ish, ok you get a big, hard unit, but they lack the cutting edge of say, blade storm DA, or harleys, or banshees or reapers, and Dragons can do comparable things far cheaper in poitns and cash
Arguably they can do drive by very well, but only against very specific targets
Everything you have been told is a lie!
I have actually fielded 40 wraithguard in an army before, in tournament. I came in 4th of 10 (I think.) They definately have their uses, but suffer badly against troop heavy armies. Yes, they are expensive, but they are fun to have around.
Nothing more fun than having a bloodthirster get summoned, then get immediately banished back to the warp. (It was a good day.)
Another squad will almost always benefit you more than a few upgrades to all squads. Remember: Troops before Toys.
I have an Iyanden Army, but I don't/won't play it anymore (thanks a bunch GW) because of the stupid rule contained in the new Codex that makes fluffy Iyanden Armies no longer pratical or cost-effective points-wise.
