got my hands on a copy of this this morning. had a quick shufty through it and it looks coolio.
anyone tried any of the stuff out of these??
saw some of those heavy gun drones on ebay and thought the looked pretty tasty with a burst cannon and a markerlight. would be cool since i can never find space in my list for pathfinders so I never have any makerlights!!! thought a unit of these covering my firewarriors or broadsides would be splendid.
also the markerlight equiped xv8 seems like a cool idea at first but with it being a heavy weapon I'd only get the assualt phase move.
anyone got any views on the stuff in AI3??
I love my Elysians, does that count? I have Shas O'R'Myr too but not got round to doing the rest of Tau army, conventional wisdom suggests that he is not a brilliant choice for HQ, I also have 2 tertra but subject again to a pile of plastic Tau parts that need assembly
Everything you have been told is a lie!
I don't have the IA book, but I do have Army Builder and I have looked at the stats for Tetras. I think I would use 2 of them if I had the models and my opponents would allow it. Afterall, more mobile (VERY mobile) markerlights would be really nice. I use the Skyray for this purpose and 2 tetras would compliment a mech list very nicely.

I have the book, the story is a little weak and full of tactical errors on the part of the Imperium, but that is the subject of another thread.
Anyway, some of the rules in there are pretty good.
I wouldn't recommend any of the varient Hammerhead turrets, they bring the vehicle in closer to the enemy and don't really do anything that the XV8 suits can't do better. Also I don't care for the varient XV8s, they all restrict one phase's movement.
R'myr on the other hand I do like and use his rules for my own commander, although having to take drones is something I would prefer to do without.
I haven't tried the turrets or tower, but as has been said the tetras are a nice unit, great if you can't find the points for a pathfinder team.
They do cost the same as a CM Rhino and effectively are just a mobile markerlight, also a full squadron of them will cost about the same as a full pathfinder squad.
The extra mobility you gain is at the cost volume of markerlights but you can spread this over multiple FOC slots, which is probably the better tactic as they are not that durable.
Heavy gun drones seem to be a good unit, a unit of 4 is going to put out more shots than 8 regular gun drones at a comparable cost and hence will cause more wounds. However, they do take a heavy slot, which could be better used for railguns, but lend diversity if you are filling the last heavy slot. Also again, the markerlight version will have more limited mobility.
Since Tau need to keep moving I wouldn't recommend this upgrade, go with tetras instead.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents. I'm sure Rikimaru will disagree with me on some of this (hopefully not all of it  )
I can't see why Riki or anyone else would disagree with you, you understand what you said and supported it well. Riki, Myself, and most sane players like to keep our tanks far away from enemies, and you covered the pros and cons well. Rep for getting most of both sides of the argument, plus being right. Just one question. Does CM mean codex space marines or Chaos Space Marines. CSM is chaos space marines, SM is space marines. C: generally means codex.

Wait, what are the rules for IA3, is it a seperate game, do you use it in a normal game, I've heard of it but I'm not sure...
You may have really well thought out, and complicated tactica, but I know I have the most efficient one : I shoot you, you die.
imperial armour 3 is based around a playable campign that you can play using 40K, epic and battle fleet gothic.....pretty cool idea. It also has a bunch of tau stuff like new XV8 crisis suits, new pirahna set ups and new drones with burst cannons and markerlights. also has the rules for the sky ray which is because i think it was pre tau empire codex?
some of the stuff has been included in tau empire codex (iridium armour for instance) and the sky ray (since GW started making them) but the stuff that is soley still made by forgeworld hasn't.
