alright my friend who i play alot, plays chaos, and his style of play is similar to playing a SM team, so i can give you some advice here. ( i've bolded my answers/advice)

Aun’Va and Honor Guard- get rid of this, i've yet to see outstanding use for them

    Crisis Body Guard
-Twin Linked Plasma Rifle - Make this a plasma rifle and a fusion gun

NEVER use carbines! They never work effectively

If you could make those kroot more firewarriors, if you cant then it's not too big of a problem.

If possible take out the Sky Ray for another Hammerhead

Also does your SM friend like playing a mostly all infantry SM army??

    Further More ...

yes he uses all troops , predator and jumpers every single time .. he also has 2 apothecaries which take a really long time to kill!

Aun'Va is good in CC when i use him its always a good turn out .. and when he dies (after the roles) it really helps when asll guys become fearless so you wont get killed while running away because he always goes into close combat with my warriors

    thats crap

You always use jumpers and since you have gotten your predator i have never had a battle with you that you have not used it.. and you've usued your aphothecaries ever since you got them too

The only reason I use those things is because there good against tau,
jumpers+fire warriors= death to fire warriors. My tank isn't really all that great you just have to get at it with the right guys and apothecaries are a must for my chapter trait(purity above all i believe) So you never know what I'll use next either an all footslogging heavy-hitting army or a very fast combat army or something of each.

    I generally do mechanized lists.

I don't tailor armies at all, but I would probably take a mech list against any SM list.

    Mech list is basically:

Shas'el with TA and whatever you like (Helios, CIB/Plasma, etc.),
    stealth suits,
    Deathrain crisis (at least one),
Fire warriors mounted in Warfish (maybe 2 of these),
    Kroot with Hounds,
    couple railheads.

If you get more points, maybe take more stealth, deathrain, mounted FW, and Kroot.

    From there, it's just tactics:
-No matter how much he likes to use cover, you like it more with JSJ.
-Concentrate fire with superior mobility. If you can isolate half his army with all of yours, you will win, then move on to the other half.

That's basically how I approach most battles. More specific tactics come with more understanding of the different types of SM Armies.

Okay, first off ARMY LISTS BELONG IN THE ARMY LIST SECTION!!!!
Secondly, there are a few things I would do differently., First, get rid of the stingwings. They dominate kill team vs. marines because they will kill on average 3 marines with a turn of shooting. They won't, however, survive the return bolter fire. They really aren't worth it on the table.

The second thing I would do would be to delete aun'va hard and unpleasantly with extreme prejudice. For his points cost, you could much more effective units in greater quantity. Really, he isn't worth it.

The third thing I would do would be to get rid of the TL burst cannon suit. Crisis suits are designed for our anti-meq/medium strength/mid range weaponry. They are really the only unit we have that takes it. Putting burst cannons on it is like giving firewarriors carbines (oops). Really, use stealths for that, take plasma, CIB, or fusion on these. Try taking a deathrain squad, 2 TL missile pods 2/targeting array. They almost never miss, are cheap, and are almost universally effective.

The fourth thing I would do would be to get rid of the carbines. Marines have high LD, and carbines have low range. Not a good combo for a weapon that relies on pinning.

Looks like a solid Gunline army to me, bit crazy with some of the wargear selections but nothing bad. Make sure you take some of the advice given on here with a bit of salt as most Tau armys around here suffer from marine clone syndrome worse then the marines do. I am no Tau expert by any means but the list below represents what I would do based on yours, just slight tweaks really.

    HQ
    Aun’Va and Honor Guard

    Commander Shas’el
    -Fusion Blaster
    -Cyclic ion Blaster
    -multi-tracker
    -targeting array

    Elites
    Stealth Suit Team (6)
    -5 burst cannons
    -1 fusion blaster
    -bonded

    Crisis Battlesuit Team (1)
    -plasma rifle
    -fusion blaster
    -multi-tracker

    Crisis Battlesuit Team (2)
    -twin-linked missile pods
    -targeting array

    Troops
    Firewarrior Squad (12)
    -12 Pulse carbines
    -EMP Grenades
    -Photon Grenades
    -bonded

    Firewarrior Squad (12)
    -12 Pulse rifles
    -Photon Grenades
    -bonded

    Firewarrior Squad (12)
    -12 Pulse rifles
    -Shas'ui w/ markerlight + target lock
    -bonded

    Firewarrior Squad (12)
    -12 Pulse rifles
    -Shas'ui w/ markerlight + target lock
    -bonded

    Kroot Carnivore Squad (12)
    -Kroot Shaper
    Kroot Hounds (2)
    Krootox Riders (2)

    Fast Attack
    Vespid Stingwings (
    -strain leader

    Gun Drone Squad (

    Heavy Support
    Sniper Drone Team (4)

    Hammerhead Gunship
    -Railgun
    -Smart Missiles
    -Multi-tracker
    -Decoy launchers
    -Target lock
    -Targetting Array

    Sky Ray Defensive Gunship
    -Seeker Missiles
    -Burst Cannons
    -Multi-tracker
    -Decoy launchers
    -Target lock
    -Targetting Array

Sit the firewarriors with photon grenades in front of the ones without. You can use the carbines to try and pin any jump troops they get a shot at which will help you alot if you can pull it off. There is plenty of anti armour around now so you shouldnt have a problem with it and you can always turn those guns on heavy infantry if you want to. No idea how many points it is as i didnt add it up.

OK i fixed them for the most part

Ok so i changed alot of stuff to them and i also forgot to add shit in the list of stuff that you guys suggested .. i was really lazy .. any who here are my changes

all fire warriors have pulse rifles i scrapped the carbines because i have the gun drones for that

my crisis suits now have TL missle pods and one plasma rifle one missle pod. and one plasma fusion combo.

i have 2 squads of 8 gun drones ( cause they are cheap and help fill up points)

    i'm getting rid of vespids

my stealth guys still have the fusion but now have 5 burst cannons

aun'va will be gone and i'm thinking of getting Shadowsun but the games workshop can't order the damn thing.

i'm keeping my one HQ because he takes forever to kill (Shas'O) i got rid of the bodyguard and made him my third in the crisis team

kroot hopefully i will be getting more hounds to add to the group

and until i find something to replace my snipers i'm going to have to stick with them ( i don't like them very much )

but remember on my first list i didn't add in any of the wargear besides the weapons, grenades, and drones because i have a good idea what i should put on them
