Welcome to Librarium Online!
So its been a while since i have been with my 40k, but ive been at school so do forgive. I am planning to start a new army and i have been playing IG for 2 years, i have a 2000pt standard infantry army and a 1700 pt armored company list and have been looking for a serious change to CC. Nid's catch my eye quite a bit.
Im thinking a black and white color scheme similar to the one featured in codex- see page 64 top right.
I have been coming up with an army list to procrastinate studying for finals:
tell me what you think and any suggestions, im new to the hivemind so be gentle
Flyrant (old school, think "Aliens" with wings)
Flying guard conversion
3 brood flying warriors
1 broods stealers with carapace
1 broods (16 horms) with ws adrenals
1 brood (16 gaunts) with fleshborer
1 brood (3 ravs) with syth and rends
1 brood thropes
1 Carnifex terrorbore
2x twin link devourer
1 Carnifex scuttle basher
I know its rough and yes i have the $$ to throw into this, interships pay well. Im particularly inspired by Hive Fleet Moloch his conversions are in a word, sick. Let me know what you think and suggestions on changes, biomorphs or additions. Thank you
So what kind of an army are you looking for? Extremely cc, very fast, tear the enemy apart? Or an all genestealer army with a broodlord. Or my favorite the monstrous creature army, having up to 8 MC's can be a real problem for your opponent.(any carnifex in a list over 1500 points can count as elite if it is under 114 points)
And yes in your next post put the biomorphs on everything.
The Bridgeburners(SM)-(Around) 3000Splinter Fleet Dragnipur-1500 (and growing)
Ok so in response to Flame_squall heres the completed list. I may have overbulked my carns but having never played i wont know unless someone tells me. Its just a starting point and obviously im going to go HQ, 2 troops first then build from there so i can get some experiance playing in. Let me know what to add/remove/change and what you think. The basic idea is rush to cc with MC's as fire support. Flying warriors and Tyrant provide synapse.
Flyrant (old school, think "Aliens" with wings) 171pts
Adrenal Glands (ws)
2 pairs Scything talons
Rending claws (on feet)
1 Carnifex terrorbore (113)
2x twin link devourer
1 brood (3 warriors) (115)
1 Barbed Strangler
2 broods (16 horms each) 2*176
with ws adrenals
2 brood (16 gaunts each) 2*144
1 brood (3 ravs) 120pts
with syth and rends
1 brood (3 winged warriors) 141pts
Adrenal Glands (ws)
Rending (on feet)
1 brood thropes (175)
1 Carnifex scuttle basher (186)
1 Carnifex (206)
Twin Linked Barbed Strangler
Ok, some comments on your list:
Your tyrant can't have rending claws on his feet. Only two weapons, but he doesn't really need rending, since it is a MC (you could use the rending hands to model the feet, though, which I guess was your intention, going after Hive Fleet Moloch minis). He should do fine with just the 2 pairs of scything talons. 2x devourer is also very very effective. Use the RC points for something else. Also, be aware that your flying tyrant will be a priority target, so it'll be very fragile as soon as he's out of cover.
You may want to give him Warp Field instead of Warp blast.
The terrorbore is very good, usually called dakkafex, I think  but note that he's only considered elite in games over 1.5k points
I'm not a huge fan of warriors, since they tend to die miserably and do not accomplish much. Your configuration is fine, I guess, but try to focus on just one role, either shooting or assault (so save either the enhanced senses or the melee upgrades) that way you'll have more points for more fodder... erm gaunts.
About your fast attack slots; they are both good, but if I were you I'd spread those raveners in two different squads. That way you have one more scoring unit and they have to shoot them with two different units to take them down, rather than just one. I always enjoy when a large squad diverts all its firing to my lone ravener, sparing the rest of my army from a lot of shots.
And about your heavies:
The thropes need focus. Focus, focus, focus. Zoanthropes are amazingly resistant with their warp field, and they can be deployed separately, so they're a great base for synapse. Depending on my army composition I use synapse in all three of them (particularly when I field many gaunts as you seem to plan to do).
Psychic scream is truly wonderful, but only when used en masse, i.e. in many (2-3) zoanthropes and a tyrant. Otherwise, only pick it against low ld armies. I wouldn't pick catalyst, since your troops will have high enough initiative, and if your carnifices or zoanthropes are in melee range you're doing something wrong. The same with horror.
And please, pick warp blast for the three of them, it's their main weapon after all.
The carnifices need some touches. The CC carnifex may seem good and it's quite pretty. I have one... ...for looks, but he's never in the game table. CC carnifices are slow, very very slow, and unless you're playing against Khorne, which will charge towards you they won't manage to do much damage, if at all. (This may vary depending on table size, but it's what usually happens).
Your other carnifex has one too many bioweapons. You must pick either two barbed stranglers or a single barbed strangler and the talons. Personally I field VC, BS, ES carnifices with some defensive upgrades, but twin BS are good too. I would only put BS+scything talons if I was going for a cheap combination, and in that case you could even use BS+Rending claws, which should be cheaper. (it's not that you plan to get into melee range, only save some points).
kalender pretty much hit the nail on the head, though I'd like to comment on these guys:
Most people see Hormagaunts as overpriced for what they do, but I see them as an extremely useful assault unit when equipped properly. By far my favorite combination for Horms is the 'Hypergaunt' load out, AKA both Adrenal Glands to give them a huge advantage in CC. Now I see that you're half way there, so I think you should spend the extra 16 points and give them higher I as well.
As for your Gaunts, they're typically a suicide unit that absorbs incoming fire and dies in great amounts. That's why I don't think you're going to need the Toxin Sacs on these guys, especially since the Fleshborer already adds strength AND rerolls to wound, so S5 shots aren't going to be that useful.
Good luck with the fleet, and don't be afraid to ask for more help on these forums, it's what we're here for.
Lone Wolves (Space Wolves) - 2092 pts
Hive Fleet Basilisk (Tyranids) - 1767 pts
Chaos Fleet - 900 pts
Thank you guys, all the help is appricated, like i said nids are new to me and id love to field a themed army that scares the poop out of my opponents. Thank you for your help again.
