Welcome to Librarium Online!
I joined little over a year ago but didnt start posting until recently, just a thought on my behalf really. But it seems to me that all us DE players are really agressive, it also seems to step over into the forums aswell. not that this is a bad thing, i am of the opinion that you have to be a real agressive player to handle DE in battles. any thoughts?
well i'll get to the point, i would like to know how you guys play DE, i myself play a mobile army with surpressing fire alot (i do change on friendly's, i like to win in tourneys) while getting up close and personal to the opposing players forces using my surpressing fire to kill threats to my oncoming CC onslaught.
Is it the case that we all play to our strenghts and use all of our army as disposable cannon fodder as long as we get the rythm of our army to cause arnachy and chaos in enemy lines?
got any interesting stories to tell? or just general tips on how you play your type of army?
Be interesting to see what you field and how you play your battles. I know i don't play like alot of you guys and rather than having a discussion on the usual arguments of the same rules time and time again, i thought that maybe this would be fun.

well, thats because dark eldar are the kind of race that cant be defensive. They are fragile and extremely skilled, not so much as tough and powerful. If some one is playing DE defensively or "passively" than that some one is definitely doing something wrong, unless its a special case when you wait to countercharge. Personaly, I support the statement "best defense is a good offense" and strongly think that DE are the kind of army to embrace that concept.
As for my personal style of play, I never play DE defensively, even when going up against a swarm or potential enemies that are better than my own units. Other armies have their own focus and advantage in their styles of play, thus there is no way to outshoot Tau or guard, and no way to outnumber nids. With that in mind, my most usualy way of playing includes either a WWP or Raider rush strategy.
Many people tend to stay away from WWP for some reason, but I personaly think its an amazing tool that should never be underestimated.

i have to disagree with that defensive dark eldar work wonders expecialy against ork or nids have 4 or so sniper squads 2 ravengers just try to get as many dark lances as possible in the army but make sure you have some mobile squads like a pack of warpbeasts and a squad of witches bact up by a lord and a squad of incubi
well thats my opinion any way:yes:
I sure am - it kills me to delay a turn for a better charge however, to lay the portal you have to be a little defensive for a couple of turns.
Raider rush lists and wych cult lists I am absolutely flash bang balls to the wall I wanna be in CC yesterday type game.
On another note - I notice while playing "coven" style lists I find that the Haemoculi units (grots, Talos and even the Haemy) are more resilient and somewhat defensive (and slow) - quite the opposite of the wyches.
To maximize, I am starting to use all the Haemy units as a portal deploying force and let the wyches fly out of the portal - symbiotic relationship!
your lance squads take out tanks, while your dizzies during first turn should wipe out all heavy weapon squads, very do-able but not really fun for you and your opponent.
If you want an army like this go play tau. but yeah your right although we can play defensively we are not meant to be a defensive army.
I only ever use this army when someone pisses me off(guess this a good example of agressive), i try to tell them i can bring a winning side everytime but winning isn't everything, variation is a must, I like testing out new tactics to see how they work.
WWP's IMO are the best example of how agressive I am due to the fact I almost always keep a foot squad of wyches and 3 taloi in there, at 1/3 of your army you got enough hitting power while still fielding an effective army.
Nothing scares your enemy more than 3 taloi coming out of a portal with those sexy girls screaming "bring it on" right beside them.
sometimes i use raiders but most the time they are not needed. I like fielding my incubi instead of putting them in the portal, these guys are quite good at soaking up firepower and taking focus of the WWP and other key factors of your army, everyone is quite aware that the incubi and lord are the most feared HQ in the game. Plus your opponent will spend alot of resources trying to deal with these. best tactic is to get them in cover and make your way up the battlefield after they are deployed from raider. lack of FOF sucks but the fear they cause makes up for it. If i'm playing agressively enough this unit should be half way up the field by turn 2 and hopefully in CC by turn 3 or 4.
kinda slow but with the WWP, 3 x taloi, its damn effective.

I've noticed this as well!
Dark Eldar players tend to be really aggressive or bitter and twisted.. or some combi in between!
NOt that this is a bad thing. I like Dark Eldar players, mainly because they play such a tricky and unique army.
Some of my best friends are Dark Eldar players.. like Tenozuma or Tsar Nikolai.
heh.. i find it amusing that they're so bitter though. It might be because the models are so poop. Or their paper thin ravager armour. *shrugs*

Anyway, i think it also has to do with the very design of the army. We even have a special rule that says we are ALWAYS attackers in any scenario :shifty:. The DE are fast, lethal and fragile. That makes us a prime attacking army. Defense? What Defense? Our best Defense is a powerful offense. I don't see how you can really play it defensively. It just doesn't seem to be playing to their strengths if you ask me.
I try to be cunning more than agressive, although the other day when i was playing i got a little too cocky, and almost lost it against an SoB player... i deployed SO badly, tried to split deployment, but he countered, and put the bulk of his force against one area. then i charged into his ranks with my wyches and unfortunatly killed too much, they ran, i cut them down, and my wyches were left in the open... they got nailed, bad. If he had pressed his advantage i would have been in a bit of trouble. As it was he didn't press enough, and i took his penitent engines out of the battle with their holy rage and my reavers.
but what i mean is that agression won't work as it can get your army killed, you need to be cunning and think about how is your army going to get in there at one time
I'm not bitter because I play dark eldar... I'm bitter because archonbjorn and people like that made me. Aye, when one of your uber "veterans" goes on their own personal biased rant, you take it in as well as the tactics they offer and such. So when sareld goes on about eldar and space marines and how everything is so unfair, that went straight in too. It's not my fault I tell you! But with the introduction of vassal my own prejudices have gone down quite some, it proves that good marine players do in fact exist, you just have to know where to look for them, it isn't just the hordes of noobs you see at your local store.
Yeah, there are a few things that DE players could choose to be bitter about. The models, the bad codex, the bad FAQ, the really dodgy rule wordings, the amount of attention given, the fluff or lack thereof, the really bad units in the codex, the models, the 9+ year wait we're getting for a new codex, the countless people who *still* think we are chaos eldar, and worse yet, slaaneshi eldar, the models, the fact that people either claim we are a crap army and impossible to win with or super cheesy and unfair, or leaping from one to the other in the space of one game, as in, you're not allowed to win because then it's all unfair and of course then your winning means nothing as you had an unfair advantage, it obviously had nothing to do with tactics or experience... and if you lose, you're still subject to the "dark eldar suck" group. I've killed them off around here for now... :shifty: Oh and the models too.
This is but a few reasons why dark eldar players are often bitter. The aggressive thing is a whole 'nother issue, maybe we weren't hugged enough as children.
And now for the famous quote. "People ask me why I play such a bitter and twisted army as dark eldar. I reply, "I have the heart of a small boy. In that jar next to his brain!""
