If I upgraded 3 zoanthropes and a Hive Tyrant to all have phycic scream, that would mean that units in range would have their leadership reduced to 6 (max.), right? So if I could fit 6 or 7 barbed stranglers into the list (warriors, carnifexes, warriors), then I have a good chance of pinning quite a few units as everything rushes forward towards the enemy.
I'm not sure if anyone has ever thought of this combo, but it seems quite effective to me. It would solve problems such as not being able to get CC carnifexes into combat and smothering dangerous heavy weapons teams.
Are there any downsides to this? Can someone please tell me if I'm missing something very obvious?
Personally I never use it though. My HT is flying, so I need that psychic power for Warp Field, and my zoanthropes all take synapse creature and warp blast, which take priority in my hive fleet. But that's not to say PS isn't cool, it's just not my style.
The only downsides to it are that 1) You're not going to be able to take other psychic powers (obviously), 2) it's limited by its range, and 3) if you're facing a fearless army, you've wasted it.
But it does have its perks. Massacring people in combat is always fun, too... Except that Marines are immune (cheaters!) :x
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
Another use of this combination of psychic scream that you should consider is it's effect upon any model trying to assault the Hive tyrant. When these models test for the horror they are likely to fail and simply present themselves to the Hive tyrant and Zoanthropes.
You can also use this method to exterminate Daemons. Daemons take instability tests instead of morale tests. This occurs at any time when a Daemon would normally take a morale test. As the Daemons assault the Hive tyrant they will be likely to lose several models as they absorbed! Note this won't work on greater Daemons or Daemon princes either I think.
I use a MC/Psychic Choir list for tourneys. It is very, very effective. Although it can be a tad beardy.
I've used it 15-20 times and it has never lost.
The army list I used is posted in the army lists section.

Just watch out for fearless armies though.
Make sure you can win in other ways too.

yeah, it does work. But don't try it against Deamon hunters or something. Other Fearless armies makes you pointinvestment go right down the drain. But against everything else, it really is a fun way to play
