Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm still kinda new, but I like to think i have a decent handle on these Dark Eldary peopleses.
I was just wondering how each of you handle the different aspects of your armies. And how you design your lists.
Plus i'm really bored at work. I usually play a fast moving, Hard hitting army. With a minimal firebase. So that's gonna help explain stuff. Also, the dice gods hate me. So I need to Strike Very Precisely.
I usually only play against Necrons, Nids, Eldar, Tau, and Chaos. and i have never played against non-chaos marines.
I'll start off, and include a basic load-out of my squads, and you rip it to shreds. Hookaaaaaaaaaay? Go!!!
Depending on the size of the battle Archon, or Drachon. However it always had Drugs, Shadowfield, Punisher, T/helm and Plasma Nades.
I use the lord to take out troops, pure and simple. i usually mount her on a raider with another squad, then detach him for a first turn charge. Occasionally i'll run out of troops to smackdown, and move onto elites, assault orientated squads or the like.
(usually i just forget that she's on the raider until turn 5 ***slaps wrist***- and wish i had bought a Haemonculus because it's cheaper)
Been toying around with dumping a lord on a bike for large point battles, but that is a long way off yet.
1. Snipers. Duh.
Always have at least 2 squads of these. Actually, usually only two squads of these
2. 10 With Syb on a raider with Dissie. The syb has plasme nades, punisher and t/helm. This squad is used for troop assaults.
I have been toying with Blasters and Splinter cannons. As far as my progression is going, i think i will stay with the blasters, but drop the Splinter Cannons, as i like assaulting with them, and i hardly ever seem to kill anything with them. The dissie is to soften them up before a charge. Even then, i can move the raider 6"across the field shooting on max to wipe out high toughness thingy's, while still downgrading everything to glancing (or is that 12"?)
3. I'm about to try out the ghost ship raider squad. 5 Warriors, 1 Darklance, on a Raider with darklance.
I'm hoping that the increase of 5points over a sniper squad will increase the threat of firelanes appearing on the field, and make the opponent second guess themselves, and their approach. My understanding is that they may deploy seperately. also currently toying with the idea of adding Night Shield to the raider, and keeping it at range for a nice little trick, and some manouvreable firepower
4. I saw another DE player (I KNOW!!! ZOMG!!!) that had 4 squads of 15 warriors. 2 with Dark Lances. 2 with Blasters. and a syb with agoniser. weird... anyone else thought of this? apparently (and rightly so) it would tear drop-podded assault terminators to shreds... :shifty:
1. Basically always the same. All have ww's, suc has plasma nades, agoniser and pistol. Mounted on raider with dissie.
I use the raider the same as the raider squads. I use the wyches to assault large nasties, and assault specialists... love killing Genestealers with these...:w00t:
1: Usually i have them with three Dark Lances, and a night shield. They do what they do best. Blow up tanks. or big monstrous stuff. or if i can't move far enough, they take out little stuff (usually by the end of the game)
2: Another way i have used them is with 3 disintegrators, and a night shield. hahaha... bet you can't guess what i use these for? ok, i guess you can.:shifty:
Anyway. I was hoping that this thread will open my eyes to the ways of those more experienced than I, and give you a bit of an idea how i like to play.
Also help with my army building, as i don't really know what i should be doing. My group is all fairly new, and there are no real experienced people at the store (it just opened in my town).
so yeah. Let me know what you do, and you shall be rewarded with adoring gazes and gasps of "WHOA MAN!!! that's awesome!"
Heamies are included right.
My lord is pure rank and file killer with incubi, armed with punisher, T.H., animus, combat drugs, shadowfield.
otherwise the lord joins a wyche squad with an agoniser in place of the punisher T.H. and animus or perhaps both types of lord fielded, but its hard to pass up on those lovely heamies.
armed with scissor hands and destructor
heamies are cool to have around they either join bulky warrior squads to add to their effectiveness 15 warriors and a heamie each(all upgrades etc, i'll explain later on troops). or i give them skyboards to go flame hunt stuff. especially great when coming outta WWP.
Or theres the bike option put 2 in a 6 man bike squadron with usual upgrades they go squad killing with flamers, blasters and a sebaryte for CC (WWP only)
Don't underestimate heamies they are a very good HQ choice and they can do wicked damage, I could go on and explain other stuff here but thats their main uses for me.
skyboards are something i still have to really test but seems great in theory.
wyche lords always have agoniser, s.p., combat drugs and shadow field, always with a squad of wyches.
theres loads of ways all 3 types of HQ can be used i could write other stuff aswell but this is mainly what i use them for.
always have 1-2 of these, great choice, do i need to say more
2. raider squad
10 With Syb on a raider with Dissie. The syb has plasme nades, punisher and t/helm. This squad is used for troop assaults.
Great squad i use them exactly the same way i always give them their upgrades for S.C. and blaster
3. ghostship(this what we are calling this now?)
5 warriors + raider and dizzie
I love these, these are without a doubt the handiest unit we have, people says its cheese.
But who cares, its damn effective for its cost and gives the best of both worlds, i almost always use 2 to take the place of a sniper squad. Reminds me of an eldar defender squad in a way. Even if you want to use the raider as a lance its still pretty cool, mobile lance and a static one, plus it gives your opponent another target to shoot at.
15 man 2 S.C's 2 blasters and a sybaryte with punisher + T.H.(other choices of weapon depending on army) sometimes i let heamies join these, usually take 3 squads of them depending what kind of army i field. first turn i would move and FOF them possibly 2nd turn too depending, these guys can be as quick as raiders so don't think that you require a raider for warriors to be fast. Also they are supperior than raider squads and alot harder to kill and pact more of a punch. with 6" movement and possible 6" FOF these guys can make it to the opponents deployment by turn 3 (using massed dizzies to support them its a very good tactic)
i never foot slog wyches ever
i make them CC orientated and never use blasters, it takes away from what they should be doing, being the CC monster they are.
always got wyche weapons(of course) and succubus has agoniser, always on a raider
thats pretty much it very basic but quite effective.
Gold for 75 pts, people overlook these, but i can't, very fast at a possible 24" when moving, FOF and charge, should never be overlooked and when fielding a wyche army always make sure to bring everyone you can.
rarely used cept for scare tactics
usually 9 with heamy on a raider.
Only field them when using a 3 talos WWP.
good with heamies to deploy WWP further up the field.
always 3 dizzies. i'll not go into this i love dizzis they are the greatest.
great for footslogging warriors or 3 in a WWP.
when walking with warriors they eat alot of fire power, also offer good firepower and support
footslogging warriors well, i only use them when i fancy a change from the norm, still though they are great i love them. Best fire magnet we have.
A CC monster in its own right, not to be underestimated.
3 with 2 blasters to hunt indirect firing tanks or just to be a nuisance to other tank
5-6 man squads 2 blasters sebaryte and power weapon.
great little squad, used to be mostly annoying to tanks and pick of weaker units like scouts, rangers or low toughness squads infiltrators etc, not great in CC need support, still though, really good once you learn how. Not a CC monster abide your time and these babies can be devastating.
Patience is a virtue.
I do field them but only against horde armies.
squad of 10 + succubus and punisher T.H., used against horde armies or T3 armies.
has their uses, can be very good if you know how.
i use them to pick off weaker units, against nids to hold up units of gaunts to keep them from swarming me. Against T3 armies these guys are good.
People don't like them they are hard to use.

If you're always worried about crushing the ants beneath you...you won't be able to walk.
Scourges: 4 with SC. (With DL, they suck). They stay in the WWP as long as possible, and jump out to engage vulnerable targets. Against MEQ they've only really got niche uses (for killing Scarab swarms, or small Scout squads, or summoned Daemons et cetera), though.
Reaver Jetbikes: Either a maxed out squad with a jetbike Lord (Lord and Syb with Agoniser, for killing tough nuts), or a jetbike Haemonculus (Haemie with Destructor, Syb with Xenospasm, 2 blasters), or 2 small squads with blasters for tank-hunting.
Hellion Skyboards: I'm not too convinced that Skyboards are so useful. However, they can ALWAYS deepstrike regardless of mission. Putting a skyboard Haemonculus with a small squad, in the WWP (or DS'ing), can be a good sneak-go.
Warriors: I ALWAYS take these with 2 Blasters, regardless of whether they're sniper squads or whatever. 10 points for 2 short-ranged, assault DL shots??? Yes please!
Ravagers: Taking these with DL is a pointless exercise (I think), as it deprives them of their main ability: to move really fast and still tear the backside out of a squad.
Talos: WWP all the way.
Wyches: Much the same (I'll occasionally take 2 Blasters if I think I'll need the extra shooting) as you, except that it's better to sic them onto troops than big nasty things: don't forget the best part of your Wych weapons doesn't work if the enemy target is above Str 6.
Haemonculi: I have 5 of these; though I've never been tempted to take a Coven, so 3 will get used (if I use them). 2 are on Jetbikes, 1 is on a skyboard, and the other 2 are on foot. All have disintegrator/scissorhand. The two on foot, I usually stick into a Raider, and use them to burn up some enemy infantry. The other 3 are for adding added punch to a jetbike or skyboard squad.
Grotes: I really think these suck. Well, they're OK, but they're not complementary enough to the rest of my army to be worth taking.
Mandrakes: Taking 2 small squads can be funny, because it really confuses the opposition when you set up 6 Mandrake counters. Useful for diving on objectives, or mugging small squads, or preventing nasty shooting units from shooting for a turn or 2. I don't take them very often, though.
Warp Beasts: They are there to support another squad in CC (that is, they attack an enemy squad that's already in combat with one of your squads). Otherwise, they can be used to leap on an unsupported enemy squad.
Lords: Properly supported, they can kick the Hel out of anything; what more is there to say? I would baulk at siccing them onto a large squad if they haven't got a retinue, though.
It's highly contentious, but I prefer having an Archon over a Dracon- most of my opponents have exceptionally deadly CC power, and an Archon can easily kill things that a Dracon would find to be quite a burdensome task.
One thing, though: I've gotten to LOVE having a Wych Dracite as my second HQ choice; so much so that I have to force myself to take other HQ choices occasionally.
currently i am using a cheap dracon (58pt) and a squad of incubi, but soon i will be changing to haemonoculi, just cause i like them, not reall cause i see 6 of them as that powerful...
i choose my incubi targets carfully, because if they don't make it then they will die. and i need to convert all their potential into power. i don't really care about the lord, it is just a way of employing incubi. I prefer lots of cheap troops to a few expensive ones as a general rule
armed with scissor hands and destructor
2 will be used for deploying WWP's (one a decoy) then the rest will be riding with squads that come out of the webway, so they can get close to the enemy and employ their acidic flamers of doom. H2H use will be very limited, and will generally only be implemented to stop the enemy from doing anyhting in their turn (if i charge a squad memeber that has little support, then there is no much chance they will kill me that turn, but almost certainty they will get me in their phase, but that leasves them open to my shooting (read flaming) the next turn!
aways have 2 squads of snipers.
am thining about lowering it to 1 at 1250 and below (maybe even 1500 and above if i have a WWP, i like raider squads, and only having space for 2 isn't much).
8 with a sybritew ag. and a SC. and a blaster, this gives the squad 5 ablative wounds (i expect them to flee before they go through most of those). i use these to deposit next to an enemy, unload and charge, i very rarely actually fire iwth the splinter rifles, as most of my enemies use power armor, splinter rifles don't make that much of a difference, and the fac t you won't get bolters in return it is even more appealing
quite often equiped with a dissie. although this more often than not occurs because i have a few points left at the end of my selections
10-14 man squad 2 S.C's 2 blasters and sybrite possibly, depending on points, equiped with ag. these are where one WWP goes. (might have 2 of these 1 with a sybrite with WWP and a splinter rifles so you can't work out which has it(the other squad a decoy) )
my wyches used to flootslog, because i was scared of Raiders, before i became enlightened!
now, i have 8 wyches, ww. 1 suc. with ag. (this is won't be swayed on)
this raider probably has a dl to take out large large targets that hte wyches go after, and also it is the one that gets blown up first.
every single time.
won't leave home without the little wonders! 75 points, can take out anyhitng without a great save (they slaughtered a 10 man repentia squad the other day), and even if it does have a good save, the sheer volume of attacks and a free agoniser can penetrate it!
same as above, just seems like they have too many negatives to be positive. their fear causeing rule is good, but without killing potential i fear they will normally lose combat
3 dissies, only just starting using one, i am getting a second (it's on my list, btw, if youhaven't bough much yet, don't buy raiders, buy ravagers and leave off the extras because then you get the extra weapons, which you will need to play WYSIWIG)
used to use these a lot, and still do.
they are monsters! if someone advances towards you they are just going to get these things ripping into them a turn or two earlier, and it is not something they need for their best assault troops! it will cause them to think twice.
i know they say that an expierenced player wont care about them. i am yet to run into one of these players. they get a lot of fire, and soak it up and don't even get me started on how good it is to watch your friends try to take th thing out with SM, and almost can't hurt the thing, it's like getting your own back, because once they finally wound you, then you just save it!
3-4 with 2 blasters to hunt indirect firing tanks or just to be a nuisance to other tanks AND terminators! grey knight terminators HATE these things! they get close, and fire high AP weaponry, so their shroud and their save do very little. they will get blown up next turn, but they will become the focus of a lot of attacks!
don't like the idea of these, their stats aren't up there for me. but i don't use them so i will reserve my judgement
I do field them but only against horde armies.
i field hellions mainly cause i bought a squad of chaos raptors off a guy at the store, and am usingthem instead (the extra armor is how they have their better save, plus one has a melta so i kinda works). Also they are a poor man's reaver squad at only 63 points (IIRC) for 3 with a blaster they are almost worth it. they are also a fast moving scoring unit. but they have never been scoring for me at the end of a game... they just die...
