Autarch on a bike with a reaper launcher - 125pts
Huge amout of mobility - can even move, shoot, move
Yey or nay, is it just more annoying that it is effective?
He cannot shoot the Launcher from the bike.
Bikes count as stationary only for the purpose of shooting bike-mounted weapons.
The launchers is not mounted, but is only carried by the autarch.
- Just love that maki! -
also, the reaper launcher is a two handed weapon, so it cannot be equipped to a bike unit.
Zoe: Doesn't the bible say something specific about killing?
Preacher: Yes, but it's somewhat fuzzy on the subject of kneecaps.
And no the reaper launcher can't be fired from a bike, overall its not really effective as for the same price you could get 3 reapers + exarch...
Is the Autarch below still considered the "best"?
Autarch on Jetbike
Obviously with a group of 3 Spears.

Yes, you can enforce that. If you want to look like a bastard.
The laser lance Autarch is still the most effective, just by the sheer number of S6 attacks it gets on the charge, but I've seen footslogging Autarchs armed with reaper launchers before. They never did very well. The last time someone tried to play a reaper launcher on a bike with the moving and the shooting, we unanimously voted him out of the store.
Generally any type of HQ unit geared towards shooting in an army not specifically geared towards shooting won't do as well as a HQ unit in melee. Close combat makes the most of the IC's high attacks and initiative, as well as multiple wounds, whereas if he's not locked in combat your Autarch can be insta-killed by any of the following;
- missile launchers
- plasma guns
- plasma cannons
- assault cannons
- demolisher cannons
Any type of cannon, really. And that's just Space Marines. There are far more S6+ ranged weapons than close combat weapons. Unless you're playing against Grey Knights, who are practically Eldarcide. So it's better to keep him mobile and locked in combat, or keep him cheap and with a big cheap squad to guard him.

Mr_Wayne: "Some people believe that the World Eaters do not field any ranged weaponry. Those people often die at a distance."
I fail to see how enforcing the rules as printed makes one come across as a bastard.
Taking a Laser Lance does not preclude the Autarch from taking the Reaper Launcher, so he can take both and still be effective... in both phases.
If the rest of your army isn't geared to throw themselves into combat (harlies, scorps, & banshees), then throwing a lone autarch into your enemy lines will do damage, but is suicidal in the end. No model can deal with an entire army's combat capabilities. So holding back and shooting then choosing the correct opportunity to counter-assault and/or flank charge is crucial against many opponents.
Against the "there are too many Str 6+ weapons" argument - yes there are. But your model is an IC. Use his assault move to ensure that he's not the closest unit - and he cannot be shot at!
You could take a laser lance and a reaper launcher...
I would say use one of the cc weapons as well as your reaper launcher.
And as for that line... it does seem he can move and shoot with it. Anyone want to tell me why that line didn't come up in the great debate? and if it did and I missed it what was the rebuttal?
Let's avoid words with deeper meanings like 'bastard' and 'bugger' and what not.
I don't care where people are from or what they mean to them at home. There are many many other words in the English Language to choose from.
Try poo head.
