Welcome to Librarium Online!
So, I would like to field a monolith in my army but I don't like how the normal one looks. It looks too much like a flying house to me. My friend and I had an idea to create a walking one. After reading some of the posts about the Tomb Stalker from Medusa V, I was further inspired to pursue this.
Conceptually, I would like the thing to look very tall with slender legs, kind of War of the Worldish.
I'm asking you guys to post either some links or pictures for inspiration. Does anyone have pictures of Tomb Stalkers that they have created? I've included two possible examples in this post, one from Star Craft II (the things shooting in the picture) and another from War of the Worlds. If I ever get some time to actually create the thing (possibly after summer classes are over...) I'll post some pictures of the complete project. As of now, it looks like I will not have a chance to start on it for a while.
Also, any advice for what materials to use to create this?
Your opinions are welcome as well.

I wanna field a 'lith someday too, and for the sheer cost savings alone, the idea of scratchbuilding something sounds like fun. I almost laughed out loud at the "flying house" comment. It would help to know what your gaming environment is like. Do your opponents have a hard-core WYSIWYG attitude? If so, you'll wanna make sure the main "footprint" is roughly the same size/shape as that of a standard 'lith, and you'll need to build a portal roughly the same size and location as the "real" thing. I like the "War of the Worlds" idea, but I never saw the Tom Cruise movie (couldn't bring myself to, actually.)
Still, mounting a floating... thing on a large flying base is a good start. If it's possible, try to bits order the base and the bottom part of the "house" and build off that. You could make it rounded, pointy, wedge-shaped, whatever. I think what will really make this is the "tentacles." Maybe use guitar wire? Might be kewl to impale a "victim" on the end of one of those too :shifty:
As for guns, well, plastirod in different sizes is your friend on that one, I think. Be sure to bits order lots of the green rods, too, which will help your new construct look more, erm, "monolithy."
I am not too concerned about WYSIWYG. It's just me and my friend that play and we're both not picky on those kind of things.
Thanks for the reply! I'll have to ponder on this some more and maybe draw up a sketch. Anybody else have ideas?
I like the look of the war of the worlds walker.
I imagined the tomb stalker based on the half-life 2 walkers- I don't have any pics but I'm sure you could google it easily.
A cross between the two above walkers would be great- 8 limbs, so it fits with the spyders and an underslung cannon to work as the power matrix. You could replace two limbs with guns to represent the flux arcs.
i saw a great conversion once of a guy who bought the monolith box, but instead inverted the structure into a sort of "floating floor" sorta model that looked great, and was wisywag capable.
PM me about Aurora Prime Vassal fights! Willing and ready!
I put lights in my one now it looks like a big green lamp look nice i'll try and get a pic of it on here soon
