Please note that this guide has been superseded by this version on my site: http://eldar.arhicks.co.uk/articles/article_mag.... This includes options for magnetising War Walkers, Wraithlords etc. instead of using pinning.

I've thought about the exact same pinning method with one small exception: fill in the slot before making holes on the weapon mount for added stabilty. More surface area on the pin in the slot should make for a more stable swap.

Not the exact ones, but still pretty close. About 1 quarter down the page.

I get all of my magnets through eBay - do a search for "neodymium" and you should find a large selection. I've found the seller "3711dave" to provide an excellent service and a wide variety of sizes so it would be worth checking his eBay store too.

I've had limited success with 6mm x 1mm round magnets for the Eldar support weapon platforms (which use metal weapons). You'll need to use larger, thicker magnets than those used in the article if you want to use metal weapons, though if I remember how the old metal weapons were mounted (braced on either side) you might be able to have magnets on both sides of the weapon, which will hold it much more securely.

Awesome guide, I just bought the magnets on ebay. I did have one question, I have the older version of wraitlords and war walkers, making them a completely metal model, any idea on if the magnets will hold up with metal weapons?

Thanks

Hi John - I've not got any completed yet (with paint + vanish), but I've found that magnets disguised with a layer of Green Stuff still provide a strong bond, so paint shouldn't be a problem.

Hi, are the magnets strong enough for you to paint over them and still stick together nicely, or should I be careful with my spray undercoat?

Great guide, thanks.
