Preparing for a Busy Season

Preparing for a Busy Season

Well I have been busy preparing and playing a variety of games and systems and planning events. With the Mechanicon Grant Tournament and Convention on the horizon November 4, 5, and 6, myself and many of my fellow gamers are all getting ready to participate in a variety of events that weekend. We also had a local round of ‘ard boyz for Warhammer 40K. I had entered that event with high hopes, but ended up making critical mistakes. I won one game with a minor vicotory, but started late, waiting for an opponent to arrive. I fought my 2nd game vs. a Chaos Marines player to a minor loss, but almost had a draw. My last game was against Space Wolves and I got the teeth kicked out of my orks. In the end I went 0-2-1 and fell to 5th place.

Modeling: Khorne Berserkers (with Plasma!) and Ministorum Priest

Modeling: Khorne Berserkers (with Plasma!) and Ministorum Priest

Hey guys, So its been a rather slow hobby week for me, with school, life, and a strange bout of insomnia that’s kicked in recently. I’d been feeling the Modeling bug for a while, but the painting bug is mysteriously absent… But finally, the Khorne Berserkers I ordered came in! I got the 8 needed for the list assembled, while the 4 leftovers went to the bitz box for another time. For those of you who don’t remember, I did a post a little bit ago on whether or not to put plasma on my Berserkers…I went ahead anyways. I feel like it’s a good investment, and if they die, well they die, right? I opted away from the ugly-ass bunny rabbit heads (they’re a pain to paint too…) and went with the heads from the Warriors of Chaos Warriors kit. Much happier with these, they really add a faceless brutality to the unit. I’m really happy with them though because the Skull Champion still gets a skull helmet! ‘Wait Granesh, where’s his arm?’ Kharn got him. Nah, I’ve decided to magnetize the Bolt Pistol hand and a Plasma Pistol hand, depending on the list.

Soul Powered Engine of Destruction

Soul Powered Engine of Destruction

My iron lich’s entourage swells, the most recent addition, a seether helljack. I call this psychotic machine ‘Sean’. The rules for this..thing…are disgusting, it is no wonder they have to chain it down in between fights. Rules aside, he just looks badass, so I had to get one. Only thing that bugged me was the head, it didn’t sit well with me, so I switched it with a chaos defiler mask with the horns moved around to become tusks. Sean is one heavy son of a forge, being all metal, definitely feels like 9 points. To digress, I find it easier to paint a model this size or smaller if it has some weight. A heavy model can rest in my hand, where I have to hold lighter ones. Ok, spiel over.

Mansions of Madness: Forbidden Alchemy

Mansions of Madness: Forbidden Alchemy

Until this year is over FFG announced to release two great expansions, one for Civilization and one for Mansions of Madness. In my last article I wrote about Fame and Fortune, an expansion for Civilization board game. However, there is also another new expansion for Mansions of Madness to be released. There are two small expansions for this game that only add additional scenario, but this new expansion is big and has a lot of things in it. Map tiles People complain that this game has quite bad replay ability and that you get bored as there are only five scenarios in core game. I will have to disagree with those people as each game is different because of the objective and it is also very important who is playing the keeper. Each player will play differently and that is what makes this game so good. On the other hand, if you really think that it is getting boring because of the same scenarios, you can always get yourself two small expansions and have additional two scenarios to play. However, with new big expansion you have plenty of scenarios to choose from

Fantasy or not fantasy, that is the question.

Fantasy or not fantasy, that is the question.

Greetings all. You may have noticed that I’m not Mercer and you would be correct. My good friend Mr Mercer has been kind enough to add me as a contributer on this fine blog and I hope that I can add to it in one way or another. The story to how I got here is a bit long winded so you can have the short version, here goes: Got back into GW hobby last autumn, bought fantasy because I liked the miniatures, went to local game club but nobody played fantasy, met Mercer and talked about 40k, found my old Eldar and made a list, played Mercer with old style Eldar list and got tabled, got a new list and got better, asked Mercer if I could write on his blog. Now, this brings us up to today and a slight problem because Mercer has invited me to his blog but I have lost my focus with 40k as of late, I don’t hate it by any means and I’m not scooping up my Eldar and refusing to play until a new codex comes out. I just want a little break from painting walkers and wave serpents and I see the piles of unpainted and unused fantasy as a perfect chance to do something different until I feel the urge to get my space elves finished. Now I have a few choices, I could write some Eldar related stuff but not really be into it or as Mercer has kindly suggested I could write some fantasy articles. I will be the first to admit that I am a fantasy noob, I’ve had 3 games in total and have a 99% unpainted army so the question I put to you dear reader is would you be interested in fantasy articles, work in progress, battle reports? Fantasy, have you ever played, are you even interested, do I need to man up and get my Eldar finished? Let me know in the comments 🙂

Monstrous Arcana – Forge World Do Fimir

Monstrous Arcana – Forge World Do Fimir

I mentioned a little while ago that GW seem to be releasing new products bases entirely on what I like lately. I like: vampire counts, chaos dwarves and fimir. Can you see why I’m happy? The latest in this series of ‘keep Mr Saturday happy’ is the news that fimir warriors will be included in the new Monstrous Arcana book. Hot damn. I guess they will be monstrous infantry, but hell, the timing! I started my fimir army earlier this year when most warhammer players would have looked at a fimir and went “That’s a what now?” and now not only does the dirach get new rules in SoM, but the fimm are due for a NEW MODEL RELEASE. Joygasm.
