Skaven vs High Elves – 500pts and a total fail

Skaven vs High Elves – 500pts and a total fail

Mercer came round mine on Friday and after killing a few hundred locust on Gears 3 we decided to have a small game of WHFB , it was a bad idea! First fail was that I have no gaming table at the moment, we had to use my coffee table which is maybe 1 1/2 ft x 2 ft, not ideal. Second fail is that the only other army I have 500 pts of assembled models for is High Elves which ironically is the one army that I don’t have the army book for. I went through some of the army specific rules and then thought it easier to explain each phase as it happened. Anyways, the lists were roughly 500 pts each, so it should have taken maybe an hour and this is where it went wrong. The third and biggest fail was that we didn’t even get to turn 2, at the end of turn 1 we got talking and the next thing we knew it was 1.30am so we quit the game. It was a shame really as the first turn was eventful to say the least, heres a quick overview of what happened: High Elves go first, Spearmen , Sea Guard, Swordmasters and Lvl 2 Mage advance, Mage casts his Fire Cage spell with irresistible force, blows himself and 6 swordmasters up, swordmasters fail panic test and near enough run off the table. Skaven turn 1, Frenzied Plague Monks charge the spearmen , clanrats don’t move as they will take 20 Str 4 hits if they do, Warlock Engineer casts a spell (can’t remember the name, it was the small template spell from the lore of ruin) at the Sea Guard and kills 8 of them, they pass their panic test. The spearmen chop up the plague monks who fail their break test, flea backwards into the clanrats who also fail their panic test and run off the board… And that was as far as we got, quite eventful for one turn! Well eventful and a total fail at the same time :/ Its a shame we didn’t get to see how it would turn out, although that being said nothing would have been as cool as that first turn!

Prepare to be Harvested

Prepare to be Harvested

I will admit to not being all that “up” on the Necron rumors, being that I can't stand reading through the threads on various forums trying to sift valuable information from the “Salt!” and “hurrrr Matt Ward” posts. The most well organized one that I've found is in Dakka's N&R forum since all the useful tidbits are consolidated into the first post. I’m liking what I’m seeing so far. The Tesla weapons seem like they will be interesting, and that probably means a hefty conversion project for the 20 immortals that I have sitting in a Hard Case. Since they will now be troops I suppose the main thing I’ll be buying to update my Necrons for the new codex is Transports. Ghost Arks for the Warriors and Night Scythes for the Immortals, and between all that and the three Monoliths that I plan on keeping in the game (LOS blocking is still going to be important) that will likely put me close to the point values that I’ll be playing with most. Obviously, this is just a very basic overview of what I’m thinking, since when the codex is actually released there will be plenty of new things to mull over. I’m really looking forward to this new Codex, though. It’s been a long time coming and I’m sharpening up my craft knives and inventorying my paints for what I think is going to be a pretty intense winter of modeling!

Board Game Rankings

Board Game Rankings

It is always very nice and useful if you are able to see how different things are rated and to have all of that in one place. Board game enthusiasts are lucky to have BoardGameGeek.com. This internet site has the best date on board games and is used by all players. This way it has the most precise rating table on board games that you could find. There are thousands of games listed on this site, but when it comes to ranking the games it is the most interesting which game is in top 10, top 20 or top 100 board games. There are no strict rules or guide lines that one should follow when rating new board game. This is why this rating system might not be the best as there are thousands of different board games and people are different and love different things. However, if you are fair and you grade more than just one game you like, then you can affect other games being rated higher or lower. Only when there is enough information on every game it is possible to make a list. Fortunately, there is more than enough information on every game and the current list is quite accurate and players will find these top games quite good

SHOWCASE – The Praetorian 4th Mechanised

SHOWCASE – The Praetorian 4th Mechanised

Following the first Showcase post featuring Victoria Lambs Praetorians I recieved a email from a fellow Praetoria collector, Phil Anderson with a few pictures of his army, the Praetorian 4th (now where have I heard of the Praetorian 4th before?) Mechanised (ah, mechanised!). I think Phil’s army is another great example of a Praetorian Imperial Guard collection, and one which deviates from the

Modelling: Tervigon #8…More Like Tervigon MKII

Modelling: Tervigon #8…More Like Tervigon MKII

Hey guys! So after finishing that Space Wolves Land Raider, I got to work on my next commission, a single Tyranid Tervigon. Now, this is either #8 or 9, I can’t remember. Anywho, I decided to step up my game and take this one to the next level. Not that my other ones aren’t awesome, or on top of my game! But I feel, after 8 times, you need to improve a little. So I’ve extended the torso Horizontally and made her a little bit fatter. Some plasticard tubing widened the torso, and then it was just a matter of using Greenstuff to make the torso bigger. I always give my Tervigons Cluster Spines, but to make the Carapace bigger, I trimmed up the Spore Cysts one to help make my job easier. Still need to do a little smoothing and filing. The ribs are just Greenstuff, but the spikes, in order to keep the piece symmetrical, are from some of the little spiky bits in the Carnifex box. *Tyrannosaurus Roar!* Luckily that Chosen has plasma! Anyways, just a simple update today, I’m hoping to get all the sculpting work done tonight, and should be painting tomorrow

Now it feels like home …

Now it feels like home …

Hello Strangers …. I know over the past year or so, my blogging has been a bit off, my commenting dire and my hobby output has been none existent, for that I apologise. As a bit of background, just over a year ago my business collapsed due to quite a few customers who owed me a lot of money going bust in the recession. The fallout was pretty horrendous, some serious debt and us losing our home and having to move in with family. As you can tell by my blogging, the whole thing had a pretty drastic affect on my personally and my hobbying. I just couldn’t take any joy out of hobbying, it just didn’t feel right having time to myself whilst my family weren’t in their own home. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, we moved into our own home and overall, things are generally on the up. So last week, I took my models out of storage and setup my display cabinets and for the past couple of nights, I’ve had my painting station out and been cracking on with various projects. Last night, my wife came down after putting the little ones to bed and stood at the doorway, looked straight at me and said ‘Now it feels like home’. So gents, thanks for sticking with me during the past year, although I probably won’t be knocking things out at the rate I did before but I’ve definitely got my mojo back for hobbying and my beloved guard.

This Saturday we have more than seven, due to missing last week’s. So, here are some things that caught my eye over the last two weeks: -Dave’s Gutsman is pure win. -Kevin shows us his awesome Menoth force (and some handy tactics if you’re a zealot). -Inq28 purifies a nurgle mini. -A chaos ogryn diorama from Massive Voodoo. -Hex hunters from die Vinci, some nice shadowy feel. -I can see why this won a daemon, nice work! -A display board/carry tray from SCW (I am so stealing this!) -Rafa Coll shows us what guard do on their off time. -Truescale dreadnought from Spikey Bits. -…and the winner of their wreck challenge, ” Seatbelts Save Lives “

My Arjac Rockfist Conversion

My Arjac Rockfist Conversion

For months I’ve been borrowing a picture of Arjac Rockfist from the interwebs and whilst it’s an excellent paintjob, I’ve really wanted to get my own finished. Blog Wars 2 has given me the excuse to finally complete him. Now I don’t pretend for one minute to be a genius with a paint brush but I’m certainly pleased with him. He’s one of my best efforts I think. The “conversion” itself is pretty straightforward. I use the quote marks because it’s not really a conversion in the true sense of the word, more of a kitbash. Anyway, clearly I used the Wolf Guard Terminators kit for him and chopped the head off a thunder hammer for his “anvil”. Again, no prizes for originality there! I gave him Logan Grimnar’s company shoulder pad to represent him being his champion. With regard to the paint job it’s pretty simple too. The armour is basecoated with my usual 50:50 mix of Shadow Grey and Space Wolves Grey.
