I had a little painting time last night and since going to Adepticon next April is on the table, I got to thinking about what I’d want to take out there for my first entry into a tournament since 3nd edition. While I have a fairly good-sized guard army already painted I don’t really relish the thought of trying to travel with them. Time for a stunt army! Painting up the cultist squads a while back has had me thinking about resurrecting the Tzeentch Renegades so I set to on the Helbrute from the dark vengeance set.

Played Dave aka Blood and Slaughter on Saturday. I am expecting a tough game with Dave as he’s a pretty switched on guy and a fair good player. Things might be a bit hazey as the game is from 4 days ago ๐ Daemons ‘Dirty Magic’ – 2,000 points HQ Herald of Tzeentch – chariot of tzeentch, master of sorcery, we are legion & bolt of tzeentch Herald of Tzeentch – chariot of tzeentch, master of sorcery, we are legion & bolt of tzeentch Herald of Tzeentch – chariot of tzeentch, master of sorcery, we are legion & bolt of tzeentch The Masque Elites 5 x Flamers of Tzeentch 5 x Flamers of Tzeentch 5 x Flamers of Tzeentch Troops 10 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 10 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 5 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 5 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle Fast Attack 6 x Screamers of Tzeentch 6 x Screamers of Tzeentch Heavy Support Soul Grinder – phelgm Soul Grinder – phelgm Soul Grinder – phelgm Dark Eldar w/ Eldar – 2,000 points HQ Baron Sathonyx Archon – shadowfield, huskblade & soul trap Eldrad Warlock – conceal Elite 5 x Wracks w/ Raider Troops 15 x Wraithguard 5 x Kabalite Warriors w/ Venom – Venom w/ splinter cannon 5 x Kabalite Warriors w/ Venom – Venom w/ splinter cannon 5 x Kabalite Warriors w/ Venom – Venom w/ splinter cannon 5 x Kabalite Warriors w/ Venom – Venom w/ splinter cannon Fast Attack 7 x Warp Spiders – Exarch Heavy Support Ravager – night shields Ravager – night shields Ravager – night shields Game: Hammer & Anvil + The Relic – night fighting is active Deployment I win the roll off for table side and deployment; I chose the table side with less open ground and I decide to go second. Dave deploys putting his Wraithguard super unit on the deployment line along with Venoms dotted about the place and the Wracks. Everything else is in reserves. * Tactical Notes The super unit of Wraithguard with the characters is going to be a tough nut to crack. If I can get multiple Flamer units down on it first turn, then hopefully I can create a big hole. Everything else I should deal with ok, nothing else really worries me really; will just come down to target priority. Turn 1 Dave moves his Wraithguard super unit up and runs them to spread them out. All vehicles move up the board from their positions and move flat out.

I have been pondering about CSM a lot lately. As you know, I really like them and I really want to get a Iron Warrior army together. Last night I couldn’t sleep, I had so much on mind and then lightning struck; double FOC. Now, keeping in mind that I like mech and also I will be using certain models from my Blood Angels army. In fact I’ll be using the Razorbacks only and converting them back to Rhinos. Core As my army is Iron Warriors I think a Warpsmith would be ideal. I do like the idea of a Sorcerer blasting out magic and a super fast Chaos Lord on a bike, but it’s not fluff my list – yes I am keeping to fluff, no real fast attack units for Iron Warriors i.e Raptors, Bikes, Spawn etc. So, a Warpsmith.

Before I get started I want to point you over to my friend Dave’s blog – he’s continued his excellent series of posts on making 3D bases that’s chock full of cool pics and great ideas . Check it out! I went down to Denver to check out the Feast of Blades tournament over this past weekend, and it was a great deal of fun! While I didn’t participate in the tourney itself, as an outside observer it was a beautiful spectacle. Unfortunately I didn’t get any good pictures of the tourney in progress, I snapped a few, but I didn’t want to interfere with the games in progress so none of them really turned out. Outside the main hall however, they were setting up an immense Apocalypse battlefield that I did get some decent shots of! I was really impressed by the Warlords – they were really well done!

I have eaten my crow and it tasted absolutely fantastic. However, the time has now come to choose an army for Warhammer 40K. As I mentioned in my eating crow article, I have sold off all of my Warhammer 40K armies that were painted; which means that other than a few boxes of models, I have a clean slate and can choose whichever army I want to play and start fresh. This is both a liberating experience and one that is extremely daunting as I not only have to choose an army, but I also have to buy, assemble and paint them (or have someone else do it for me); either way, it is a substantial outlay of income to get back into this hobby; not to mention time. The question therefore is where to start. Read more ยป

Yep, another round of trying to wrangle up some new authors for the blog. Seems like for every six who are willing to do it, and try, only one will make it. So, for awhile last year I was aggressively building my Tyranid army, getting tons of termagants primed and base coated, most of my hive guard converted (from warriors), and building a mould to reproduce a ton of ripper swarms. My Tyranids have never been intended as a tournament army. I know they have struggled since their release, and I don’t see myself as the kind of player who is focused on creating a tournament topping army. In fact, I don’t have the time or the transportation to play games as often as I’d need to in order to reach that level of play. So, my ‘nids are purely an expression of my fascination with the swarm as a child. Space Hulk was one of the first things that got me into 40k as a child, specifically the old video game. I cannot express how thrilling this was at the time Genestealers are a must in any Tyranid army I build. I had 10 gants and 5 genestealers from when I first bought Battle for Macrage, along with the models from Space Hulk. I got even more from buying 2 of the nid battleforces, so in theory I could field an army with purely genestealer troops. I'm not going to do that though, because I also got some hormagants and termagants, and turned a carnifex into a tervigon.
