New Eldar Codex Unit Choices – Elites

New Eldar Codex Unit Choices – Elites

Onto the Elites section then. There’s 6 units to cover here and with the exception of the Harlequins they can all take a Wave Serpent which as I’ve already discussed is pretty deadly. Howling Banshees Always pretty weak in the old codex, Howling Banshees may be slightly cheaper but they’re still a waste of points in my opinion. On the face of it some fast moving I5 power weapons seem great but with S3 and Doom being less likely they’re perhaps slightly weaker than they were before. With only a 4+ save they really suffer from not having an assault vehicle and for that reason they won’t leave the shelf. Striking Scorpions Whilst still an assault unit in a shooty world, Striking Scorpions have a couple of benefits over their female cousins. Firstly their S4 which means they don’t rely on Doom so much. They also gain an extra S3 attack at I10 thanks to mandiblasters. Granted this isn’t as good as the extra S4 attack they used to get but it’s at I10 so against some opponents it’s better. The other advantage they have over the banshees is that they carry grenades.

The Alpha Legiondary Journey Part 1: Evaluating Codex: Space Marines

The Alpha Legiondary Journey Part 1: Evaluating Codex: Space Marines

Welcome back to the second article and the continuation of ” The Alpha Legiondary Journey “. Hopefully you have read and enjoyed Part I where I listed some of the goals and concepts that I’m shooting for with this series and as to why I will not be using Codex: Chaos Space Marines as the core for my Alpha Legion list. Evaluating Codex: Space Marines The Space Marines have been out for quite a while now and everyone and their mother are familiar with their pros and cons, their strengths and weaknesses. The tricky part is evaluating said characteristics and figuring out what can be applied to the Alpha Legion doctrine – what works and what does not. There is a caveat, however: Supposedly the 6th Edition version of Codex: Space Marines will be hitting the shelves by the end of the year, so this article may not be relevant for long. I doubt, however, that GW will tinker with their favorite poster child too much. Pros : Tons of incredibly flexible and customizable options, Combat Squads mimics the division of small, Alpha Legion cells, Combat Tactics can be a great bait-and-switch mechanic, many options to play with USR abilities such as Infiltrate, Move Through Cover, Scout as well as the option of having your entire list Outflank. Because of Combat Squads and Chapter Tactics, there is a lot of strategy and trickery to consider before and during deployment, really allowing you to analyze the situation and change the way your army is split and deployed. Cons : Really.. not a whole lot

Get 25% off 40K stuff at Blog Wars!

Get 25% off 40K stuff at Blog Wars!

Just a quick update. I’ve been speaking to Darren at the North West Gaming Centre where Blog Wars 5 will be held on 22nd June. Everything is confirmed for the day which is the first bit of news but the other thing is that as I mentioned at the time, all attendees get 25% off 40K stuff from their store. As I understand it they keep a very minimal stock so what Darren has suggested is that if people email through their orders

New Eldar Codex Release Day and a Blog Wars Prize Announcement

New Eldar Codex Release Day and a Blog Wars Prize Announcement

So you’d have to be living under a rock not to know that the new Eldar codex is out today. Jamie and I headed to Wargames Emporium in Sheffield to grab our copies of the book. They offer 20% off GW stuff so we always get our stuff from them. If you’re in or around Sheffield then they’re definitely worth checking out. We were greeted by quite a sight as you can see in the picture. Despite the bounty of plastic beauty in front of us we both resisted the temptation to buy the big new kits. Don’t get me wrong I’m sure I’ll eventually own some of them but I’m determined not to give in to the feeling that they’re “one day only”. They’ll still be available when I actually want them and have time to build/paint them.

Hades autocannon on a Heldrake?

Hades autocannon on a Heldrake?

Every army needs a solution for anti air and that solution can come in a number of ways; weight of fire, dedicated anti air, aegis w/ quad gun and their own flyers. For Chaos Space Marines I have two real options

Buying 40K Stuff on eBay (Rant)

Buying 40K Stuff on eBay (Rant)

Let me start by saying that this post is intentionally patronising. I’m also pretty sure that anyone reading this is unlikely to be part of the problem but frankly I just want to vent some frustration. Since the Tau codex was announced I’ve been on the look out for models on eBay to bulk up my existing force on the cheap. So far I’ve managed to get an old battleforce for £45 and a dozen kroot for £10. Obviously I bought the kroot first but the battleforce kroot will soon be going up on eBay. Other than that I’ve struggled. I’ve kept a search going for “Tau” for a few weeks now and I’m amazed by what I’m seeing. Several items go for far in excess of their actual value, new from GW. To me the point of eBay is to save some cash so it frustrates me when people are morons and bid more than something is worth

Most broken unit in 40k?

Most broken unit in 40k?

Ok, what’s the most broken unit in 40k? I am gonna throw my hat into the ring with canoptek wraiths. Wraiths are 35 points a pop and you get a 2 wound s6 i2 jump infantry space marine. They also have 3 attacks base with rending, 3+ invulnerable save and are also fearless. If you want to make them more bad ass then throw on whip coils for 10 points a pop, any model in base contact is now initiative 1. Sure wraiths have weakness from mass small arms fire and instagib, but the 3+ invulnerable save keeps them safe. Consider that a terminator is 40 points. What do you think is the most broken unit in 40k?

Who really wants to win at 40k? The casual or competitive player?

Who really wants to win at 40k? The casual or competitive player?

Ok, this one is really going to put the cat amongst the pigeons, hold on to ya hats! When I play 40k I use tough bad ass lists. This is because I don't see the point in using 'fail' units or units which are not very good. You can easily spot the stronger units when reading codices or after play testing i.e I used Soul Grinders in my previous Chaos Daemon list (before current codex), but had no anti air, so switched them to Daemon Princes – this is just good list building and covering all bases to deal with a variety of threats. I also used to use Meganobz when I played Orks, lovely models, but they would get knocked out their ride and then easily instagibbed with meltas,

Praetorian 4th(s) on Parade

Right, I’m going to make some of my own hobby time again, not too much, I’m still sculpting some Artillery Crew for the Kickstarter, but you’ve heard enough about that for now (huzzah it was bloody successful!), but I’ve neglected it – and the blog –
