Eldar – Guardian Defenders painted

Eldar – Guardian Defenders painted

Spent enough time painting tanks and other big things recently, so it was time to spend some time on the infantry! I have to admit, I’m getting tired of painting blue and yellow so it’s about time to move on to something new but before that happens the unit of Guardian Defenders got a lashing of paint! Pretty straightforward – I went with the same blue recipe used on the vehicles, but rather than sponging the various blues, I went with a mix of drybrushing and stippling with an old brush. The blue wash then tied it all together and muted it a bit. I knew I didn’t want to go crazy with the yellow, so just the helmets and a couple bits of cloth got the hot orange/golden yellow treatment. Once that was done, the weapons got the bone color, and then I went in and painted the umpteen zillion little tiny gems. Probably could have gotten away without that step, but since there’s just going to be the one unit of guardians they deserved a little extra work. Overall, a right serviceable unit who will likely hang back and sit on an objective (and get carved into ribbons by whatever looks at them funny). Next up? Who knows?

Dark Angels – Assault Squad painted

Dark Angels – Assault Squad painted

Assault Marines are a mainstay of many of the armies I face, and they messily butcher my Guard at every opportunity so it’s a given that I’d add some to the Dark Angels. I didn’t want to just bang out a basic squad though, I had plans to do a ‘vanguard veterans’ equivalent utilizing the Sanguinary Guard winged jump packs. Seemed to me that the wing motif carries through both the DA and the BA, so there’s definitely opportunity to pilfer decorative bits from their crimson bretheren. …And then I got the codex, and found that veteran squads can’t take jump packs. Ah well, regular old assault marines they’ll be – no sense in letting the modeling idea go to waste however! Once it became clear that they’d just be a vanilla assault marine squad, they were giving the most basic of wargear to keep the points down (unlike the triple plasma-toting tac squad). Bolt pistols and chainswords all around, with the veteran sergeant carrying a power sword.

Finished: Lilith Malifaux Crew and Teddy!

Finished: Lilith Malifaux Crew and Teddy!

Hey guys, So the painting mojo is back in full swing, I’ve just been rolling through commissions lately. First the Dark Eldar, and now this! Lilith, lots of character in this model. Tuco and Iggy. Strange little models, Tuco’s face is almost entirely covered up, and Iggy looks ready to go bobsledding… Terror Tot Nephilim, complete with little doodles too! Young Nephilim, these models were fun to paint up. Though the wings were separate pieces and a little touchy to glue on… Mature Nephilim! RUN! Desperate Gunslinger: one of my favorite models, yet I hate him at the same time. Everything just looks like it needs to be painted the same color, he was the hardest piece to finish. Primordial Magic: What can I say, it’s a zombie genie worm! Who doesn’t love that? And a little extra bonus for Magilla, I got my favorite Malifaux model painted up.

Heresy Era Thousand Sons – Scarab Occult and Sorcerers

Heresy Era Thousand Sons – Scarab Occult and Sorcerers

First up, I’d like to plug my friend’s blog Ex Fide Vivo – he’s recently posted pics of his completed Sanguinius and it turned out simply fantastic! Not a whole lot of hobby time recently, Real Life(tm) has kept me pretty busy. However, I did get some more paint on the Scarab Occult and Sorcerers for the Thousand Sons. Not quiiiiiite done, but pretty darn close – there are a couple things I notices in the pictures that I need to go in and fix. Curses! First up are the Scarab Occult, the honor guard squad that will accompany Ahriman. Armed with force weapons and a fearsome array of psychic powers, and wearing Artificer armor, they are a rather nasty unit on the tabletop. I’m not especially happy with the purple robes of the company champion and believe I’ll be swapping it for a blue robe. I also realized I’d neglected to add the scarab on his breastplate that I intended to cover up the DA symbol. D’oh! Should be an easy fix though. In addition, I’m including three Sorcerers to the army, with the intention of attaching them to various units for a little extra psychic support

Shameless Advertising

Shameless Advertising

With the trip to England rapidly approaching I did a little spelunking in the Closet of Doom for some odds and bobs I could auction off to raise a little extra spending money for the trip. First up, and the hardest to part with is one of my last three King Russ tanks . This particular one has had the turret assembled and primered, but the main hull is unassembled. The final two will be used in my next Ad-Mech army, I believe. The person who made these casts hasn’t produced any new King Russ tanks in well over five years, as I understand it the molds were damaged or lost, based on my most recent conversations with him (admittedly several years ago now). Next are the remnants from my old Vostroyan army, consisting of 20 assorted infantry models and two sprues of three casualty models. They are by far my favorite metal guardsmen that GW has ever done, and I’m quite sad they aren’t still making them. Hopefully they’ll come in handy to some Vostroyan player out there! Somewhere along the way I ended up with two signed copies of the Siege of Vraks Part 1 . I don’t really NEED two copies, so…

Painting: Blood Angels Tacticals and Terminators; WoC Chaos Sorceror Thoughts

Painting: Blood Angels Tacticals and Terminators; WoC Chaos Sorceror Thoughts

Hey guys, So I’ve been playing around with the blog a little bit over the last couple of days. Some things are moved around, I’ve added more links, and everything’s just generally cleaned up. I’m hoping to put a Facebook page together after school starts (Thank you Photoshop), so keep an eye out for that link! Anyways, commissions. I’m still trucking along on the Blood Angels Commission I’ve been working on. As I said, I’m hoping to have it done by Sunday, which is looking like a mostly completable goal. Still have to magnetize some Backpacks. Blood Angels Terminators Spent a little extra time on Sergeant Helios and did a quick marbling effect on the shield. Its just layered up to Skull White, and the marble veins are Codex Grey applied with a detail brush. Lightning Claw effect was a LOT easier than I expected to be. Tactical Squad ‘Sanguine’ Really happy with how they’re going so far

Tutorial Tuesday #5: All Your Basing is Belong to Us

Tutorial Tuesday #5: All Your Basing is Belong to Us

Guess who lied to you all! I was sitting there yesterday thinking about a potential tutorial for you all, and I finally came to the conclusion on basing. Basing is a very overlooked aspect of finishing a model sometimes. I don’t know how many times I’ve played a painted army with no bases. It was a little daunting for me when I started basing my Mordor Orcs a few years ago.
