Eldar – Fire Dragons painted

Eldar – Fire Dragons painted

Had a quiet evening for a change and pressed on with the Fire Dragons. The final results are interesting, but definitely have a significantly different ‘feel’ compared to my usual methods. Not saying I dislike how they turned out, it’s just that the use of so many washes (instead of drybrushing) ends up with rather different results than what I’m used to. I think the ‘washes over white’ works quite for the Eldar sculpts, but may not necessarily translate over to the guard models. Regardless, they definitely are bright and colorful! Pretty pleased with the yellow and orangeish/red combo, they’re definitely more yellow than the ‘standard’ scheme as presented in the codex. I went with the purple tassels and helmet crest similar to what IDICBeer did on his Fire Dragons , and on a lark added in a further blue spot color for the various power tubing. The yellow is definitely prevalent on the rear of the models, and I’m quite happy with that! It was fun to bang out a quick small unit like this, always nice to be able to dabble with some other paint schemes when you get tired of the same old, same old!

A Guide to the City: The Peasants

A Guide to the City: The Peasants

The Guide to the City series of articles describes the background for the Gierburg game setting. In this first installment we take a loof at the lowest of the low: the average citizen of the Free City. Born in Gierburg. Die in Gierburg. Born in the gutter, die in the gutter. Everythin’ else issa step-up. Gutter-scum, peasant, citizen, down-trodden, poor, starving, bedraggled, stinking, continue as you will along the same vein, the average life of a Gierburg peasant is two-score and ten years of misery. You get born to parents who can barely feed you, survive till you get old enough to earn money to eat, settle down with someone to start a family and continue the cycle, dying at some point from malnutrition, sickness, an accident, murder or age. A peasant is a peasant is a peasant is a peasant and nothing tends to change that

Dystopian Wars:- Daedalus Part 3

Dystopian Wars:- Daedalus Part 3

Hi everyone, Once again I’m back with my airborne Covenant of Antarctica force, but instead of focusing on the models I thought I’d post something about the bases. I was told by a very wise wargamer and modeller, that every good miniature deserves a good base.

Arachnarok Spider and Golgfag Maneater

Arachnarok Spider and Golgfag Maneater

Spiders and Maneater… Managed to weave them all up with colours for this commission miniature painting project. I was pretty excited when having a miniature painting service project for a Warhammer Orcs and Goblin Arachnarok Spider. Painting the spider was a challenge. The underside of the spider with all the eggs and egg sac was a good challenge. Client wanted the spider to be in blue as one of the GW style. I had to refer to some spider images for reference though. In fact, I found out that in reality, there is such thing as a blue spider, amazing! Anyway, for the blue part of the Spider, it’s painted with new Kantor Blue, then wash with Nuln Oil. After that, its highlighted with a mix of Kantor Blue and Skull White. The textured surface were all dry brushed with light mix of Kantor Blue and Skull White.

Ciaphas Cain – Hero of the Imperium!

Ciaphas Cain – Hero of the Imperium!

Taking a little break from the Leviathan to do some painting – gotta let the modelling batteries recharge for a bit! My buddy Dave let me know about a miniatures company called Cadwallon that I hadn’t seen before, and lurking in their “Legendarion” section was a rather striking model of the greatest (least), most heroic (stinking coward) Commissar ever to wear the cap and greatcoat – Ciaphas Cain ! Dave had ordered up their model for the Salamanders Primarch Vulkan and was kind enough to add Cain to the order for me as well. The models arrived quickly, though the ordering process was a little convoluted with some odd PayPal redirects that didn’t make either of us feel too confident, but all was well in the end.

Adeptus Mechanicus – Knight Errant painted, and BlightWheel order arrives!

It is (more or less) done! The Knight Errant “Ignis Rex” is now ready for the tabletop! The heavy lifting was all done last update, all that remained was the shading and highlighting, and the various decorative bits.

Empire war machine crew

Empire war machine crew

In recent weeks I have based two cannons and a Helblaster volley gun , so I guess it is now time to give them some nice new crew. I have added one crew member to the base of each war machine. This is because the crew figures are really only there to indicate how many casualties remain. If you loose the last figure the machine dies too. For this reason,I only need an extra two figures per war machine. I love the older style metal figures and have been fortunate enough to be able to lay my hands on a few. They had quite a thick layer of paint on them so I had to do a certain amount of work on them. After soaking in brake fluid and scrubbing they were starting to look a little cleaner…. I have painted all my chaps in the colour scheme of my Nordland army.

Heresy Era World Eaters – More Land Raider progress

Heresy Era World Eaters – More Land Raider progress

Made a start at the weathering for the Land Raiders, and cleaning up the patchy blue. From here on out, for the vehicles I’m definitely going to be starting with a black basecoat under the blue, rather than attempting to paint the blue directly over the white. Sheesh. Added a bit more battle damage to the tanks overall, utilizing the sponge and stipple method, then went in with some washes and tried my hand at oil and mud streaks around the rivets. After that I tried some of the new textured paints GW have come out with, primarily along the lower hull, and along the track sections.
