New Tau Codex Unit Reviews – HQ Special Characters

New Tau Codex Unit Reviews – HQ Special Characters

In a similar fashion to EYIG over at Apostates Anonymous , I’m going to look at the Tau HQ section in two chunks. Firstly the Special Characters and then the standard options on Monday. The most notable thing here is that none of the HQs modify the FOC choices in any significant way. This came as something of a disappointment to the community but personally I’m not bothered. Commander Farsight He’s always been a bit of a strange one. The new version of the codex has done away with the FOC limitations that he used to impose but otherwise he’s pretty similar. His Warlord Trait is key for his role as it gives him a scatter-free deep strike. This is a pretty big deal when you consider the options that his bodyguard could take e.g. fusion for taking down tanks.

Tournament List for this weekend

Tournament List for this weekend

I'm going to a 1500 point tournament with my Astral Claws this Saturday, and I've been toying with a few lists. In my opinion 1500 is not the best points level, as there's enough points for frustrating rock/paper/scissor builds to get rolling but not enough points for a balanced army to counter everything. That leads me to approach building my list in a slightly less

6th Edition Concepts – Characters and Challenges

6th Edition Concepts – Characters and Challenges

The more you play 6th edition the more you realise that, whilst the core rules are essentially the same, the seemingly subtle changes will actually make a big difference to how the game plays. For example, the combat mechanics are pretty similar once you get past Overwatch and Random Charges. However, one siginificant difference is the Challenges mechanic which can have dramatic effects on the outcome of a game. Let’s have a look at an example first. Mephiston was undoubtedly a combat beast in 5th edition 40K but can he still cut it? In 5th edition if Mephiston charged a unit it was probably only ever going to go one way and he’d be free to do the same to another unit in the next turn. However, in 6th edition that unit could use characters to it’s advantage. Let’s say for example that it was a squad of 8 grey hunters with a wolf guard led by a rune priest. Now in the past Mephiston has cut down a lot of the squad but I’ve sometimes been lucky enough to finish him off with the power fist and wulfen. If I don’t get lucky, chances are after a couple of rounds of combat Mephiston will emerge triumphant (if a little battered) and look for his next target

Painting: AdMech Techmarine; Framing Posters and Combat Patrol

Painting: AdMech Techmarine; Framing Posters and Combat Patrol

Hey guys, Sorry for the slow weekend of posting. I made a family trip yesterday and some other events prevented me from getting any work done. I did pick up Rynn’s World by Steve Parker yesterday, and I must say, I’m loving it so far! First off, I’ve gotten more commission work done than these pictures show. So far, I’ve got 2 Blood Angels Devastators, 2 Inquisitorial Storm Troopers, a terrain piece, and the Techmarine done. Hoping to finish the Devastators tonight, and get the Blood Angel Terminators finished the next evening or Wednesday. Anyways, pictures! There’s a TON of detail on this dude, from the purity seals to the screws and cogs on his armor. I’m really happy with how he turned out, lets just hope none of those arms pop off… I also had a chance to get my 40k Posters framed. Less than $10 at Wal-Mart, I sprayed the Cardboard backing with Black, then, after it dried, I got the poster framed! Just looks a little nicer and keeps the posters cleaner and neater. These will be accompanying my ‘ard Boyz 2007 poster I have back to Durango to add some flare to an otherwise boring apartment.

Dungeon twister

Dungeon twister

There are few places on the web you can find some games cheap, as E-bay and Amazon… I love to search for cheap stuff, as I’m more likely to sell them at the same price if I don’t like the game. Local forums are also great places for finding cheap games. I look upon those frequently, and usually I find something interesting. I found Dungeon Twister in that manner. Some guy sold me for 10 bucks, and by the look at the components and rules, it was clearly game for me. Dungeon Twister is a game for 2 players, played in about an hour (although the box suggest it could be played in 45 minutes, it just never worked for me). Story is a typical Dungeon theme: old Wizard, who is omnipotent and refuses to die after more than three millennia of his existence, is bored. As someone who saw all the world and tried to do everything, he came to an idea: made dungeon labyrinths, called Dungeon Twisters because of all the gadgets that can move the labyrinth and some parts of it.
