After his amazing presentation, I asked Tony Cotrell, the head of Forge World, if it was OK to post the photos of his presentation and he said yes. (He knew I had flown all the way from Los Angeles). So here is his presentation on the new models from Forge World for the Horus Heresy series. Seminar # 3 – Models of the Horus Heresy Word Bearer Circle of Ashes Pyroclast Destroyer squad. Forge World releases Emperor's Children Legion Contemptor Dreadnought

Forge World releases Emperor's Children Legion Contemptor Dreadnought

Forge World has released the Emperor’s Children Legion Contemptor Dreadnought, and it is quite the stunner! From Forge World: The Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought was once a mainstay of the armoured might of the Astartes Legions of old. Larger and stronger than standard pattern Dreadnoughts, the Contemptor’s systems featured many examples of techno-arcana steeped in the sacred mysteries of the Legio Cybernetica. Some chapters still boast these war relics amongst their ranks, and whenever the Contemptor takes to the field of battle, it is an echo of the power of ancient days. Model designed by Will Hayes and Simon Egan . Complete resin kit depicting Emperor’s Children Legion iconography. Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought arms shown in some images sold separately . This model is available to pre-order now for despatch from the 1st of March. It is quite amazing, considering how slowly Forge World released items in the past, how fast they are now releasing new models.

Forge World New Releases – Squad Sets

Forge World New Releases – Squad Sets

Forge World has announced some Horus Heresy inspired bundles just in time for Christmas. Get them while you can, though, as they’ll only be offered for a very limited time. MkII, MkIII and MkIV Legion Tactical Squads Sets From Forge World: The mainstay of any Legion is its Tactical squads; serried ranks of bolter-equipped Space Marines capable of crushing almost any foe that stands against them. We have put together three Tactical squads sets, each of which allows you to build two squads as the compulsory Troops choices for a Legion force. The Legion MkII Tactical Squad , Legion MkIII Tactical Squad and Legion MkIV Tactical Squad sets comprise thirty power armoured Space Marines, thirty bolters and a set of Command Upgrade parts for the relevant armour mark. Legion Cataphractii Terminators Sets Every Legion maintains a cadre of veterans within its ranks, and the most experienced of these deadly warriors often take to the field of battle clad in the near-unstoppable protection of Cataphractii-pattern Terminator armour. The Legion Cataphractii Terminators with Power Fists set and Legion Cataphractii Terminators with Power Axes set each contain twenty Terminators, twenty combi-bolters and the relevant close combat weapon, and a set of Cataphractii special weapons. This allows the Elites section of your Legion force to be bolstered with two powerful Legion Cataphractii Terminator squads. Legion Contemptor Dreadnought Talon Terribly wounded and interred within an advanced life-support sarcophagus, the Dreadnoughts of a Space Marine Legion endure for centuries, perhaps even millennia, a tangible link to past glories and an incredibly powerful battlefield presence.

Commission Forgeworld Contemptor Dreadnought

Commission Forgeworld Contemptor Dreadnought

Forgeworld Contemptor Dreadnought is next. Assembling the Dreadnought was definitely a challenge as the parts of the Dreadnought were all individual component. Had to test out various pose with blutacks before using superglue to confirm. Painting a yellow Imperial Fist is another challenge. I knew yellow will go well with white undercoat, but I risked it with a black undercoat. After the black undercoat, it was painted with Citadel Dheneb Stone. Yellow is slowly layer on the Dheneb Stone to achieve the clean yellow efffect. The weathering is done mostly with Devan Mud wash and various mix. Secret weapon Weathering powder was used to add on and enhanced the weathering. Overall, the Contemptor Dreadnought was definitely a great Dreadnought miniature to paint, especially trying to assemble the pose!

Heresy Era World Eaters – Land Raiders painting in progress, part 2

Heresy Era World Eaters – Land Raiders painting in progress, part 2

A little more forward motion on the Heresy-era World Eaters Land Raiders – got all the metal areas blacked in, the Boltgun metal applied and a nice black wash over it, bringing the color down to a nice dark iron look.

Heresy Era World Eaters – First Test Model!

Heresy Era World Eaters – First Test Model!

As I’d mentioned in my last post, I have been working on a test model for the World Eaters to try out some various new techniques that I haven’t used recently. My Thousand Sons were done up in a “fresh of the showroom floor” style, but I think the World Eaters would benefit from looking a bit more worn and grimy (and blood spattered). In order to give myself some decent areas to work on, I grabbed one of the Contemptor Dreads, stripped the old paint and gave it a shot! Remember this guy? He was originally intended for the Thousand Sons, but I decided that it didn’t really fit my theme. That said, he now looks like this: Again, leaning heavily on Ron from From The Warp’s tutorials on painting white , I started with a zenithal primering method. I started off with a medium grey primer and gave the whole thing a good coat, then grabbed a light grey primer and gave it another coat, though this time I only hit it from a little above horizontal up to vertical. After that dried I hit it one more time with a pure white primer though only from (more or less) directly overhead. This gave the whole model a fairly decent grey-to-white shading for all the armor plates. I touched up some of the edges with skull white, but other than that, relied on the white primer entirely for the armor itself
