Lazy Gamer’s Corner #000 – New Year’s resolution!

Lazy Gamer’s Corner #000 – New Year’s resolution!

Hi guys! Happy New Year and let 2012. be the Year of gaming! This is my first New Year’s resolution, so I feel the need to explain it a little bit. Ever since I was 10, I stepped into playing some sort of games: whether that was Magic, Warhammer or Middle Earth FRP, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I wanted to spread that hobby, so I introduced all those games to any group of people I’ve met later on, such as school friends, friends from work, girlfriends etc. Some of them were charmed, many enjoyed but never came back into gaming. Always wanted to learn and play each and every game I could find in my area, I searched for games over the internet long before the Boardgamegeek.com was created. I ordered games over the border, smuggled many into my country as it was under the embargo. Gaming groups in my country created wider communities because of those games. I survived bombing for 78 days and still played the game all the time.

Descent: Journeys In The Dark – Part 1

Descent: Journeys In The Dark – Part 1

In the fantasy realm of Terinnoth , adventures and dangers are abundant. Monsters and strange beasts roam the country sides and populate caverns, ancient ruins and dungeons. Beastmen, Razorwings and even giants come out of their dungeon lairs and terrorize the local villages. They burn and pillage and take back, with them, the treasures and artifacts that they steal. Who will put a stop to this? Heroes, of course! Bands of adventurers, who are willing to risk their lives to slay demons and monsters, and take back the treasure that the creatures dragged down to the dungeons. A nice and big box awaits you… Descent: Journeys In The Dark is a cooperative, dungeon exploration and monster slaying boardgame.

FOW Tournament Report – FRACAS Part 1

FOW Tournament Report – FRACAS Part 1

Overview 600pt Mid-War tournament fought over 1 day across 5 rounds. Tables were smaller than standard at 900mm x 900mm or 900mm x 600mm. Only two scenarios were used ‘Free for All’ or ‘No Retreat’. 32 players attended the event from around the country bringing a mix of Allied and Axis armies with a slight weighting toward armoured forces. List composition rules for the tournament required all lists to contain a minimum of 3 Platoons, one of which had to be a combat platoon with vehicles with a ‘Top Armour’ rating of 2 banned. My Fallschirmjäger list was drawn from the ‘North Africa’ list and consisted of Company HQ w. 1 Panzerknacker upgrade & 3 x 8cm Mortars Fallschirm Platoon w. Panzerknacker upgrade & 2 Squads Fallschirm Platoon w. Panzerknacker upgrade & 2 Squads Fallschirm Light Gun Platoon Total worked out to 600pts exactly with four Platoons on the table each game after I battle grouped the HQ Mortars with the 2IC.

Games Workshop embargo – part 2

Games Workshop embargo – part 2

I wrote the GW embargo article, and it turned out to be the first in Google searches. For that reason, and that reason only (because lot of people looked at this blog for that article) I feel obligated to convey the official response from Games Workshop. I’ll also paste the entire letter from Wayland , one of the biggest web retailer in the world, that got the same trade terms from GW as Maelstrom. This is from GW Facebook page: Dear Hobbyists, Thanks for contacting Games Workshop about the change in our trading terms for European accounts. I know this has frustrated you and for that I am truly sorry. As a long standing customer, you deserve to know why we made this decision. As you know, we introduce people to the Games Workshop hobby of collecting, painting and gaming with Citadel miniatures through our Hobby Centres and local independent trade accounts. Games Workshop Hobby Centres run introductory games and painting sessions, beginner lessons, hobby activities and events. We provide all these services free of charge.
