I got a message from Tom who also goes to Vine Inn Gaming, he was asking for some feedback on his Deathwing list. The original list has a Land Raider in along with some Deathknights, can’t remember what else. I wrote this for him, keep in mind I am not a Deathwing player and play Ravenwing. Dark Angels ‘Deathwing’ – 2,000 points HQ Belial – thunder hammer & storm shield Librarian – mastery level 2 & terminator armour Deathwing Command Squad – apothecary & 5 x thunder hammers & storm shields Elite Mortis Dreadnought – 2 x twin-linked autocannons Mortis Dreadnought – 2 x twin-linked autocannons Troops 5 x Deathwing Terminators – 4 x thunder hammers & storm shields, chain fist & cyclone missile launcher 5 x Deathwing Terminators – 4 x thunder hammers & storm shields, chain fist & cyclone missile launcher 5 x Deathwing Terminators – 4 x thunder hammers & storm shields, chain fist & cyclone missile launcher 5 x Scouts – sniper rifles Heavy Support Predator – lascannon sponsons Predator – lascannon sponsons Fortification Aegis Defence Line Total: 1,995 In Tom’s previous list he had a Land Raider Crusader – this is handy for mostly anti infantry, though in past experience playing against Tom he has never had enough long ranged punch. I was thinking of switching the Crusader for Godhammer, but two Predators are still cheaper and contribute more lascannon death. Plus a Land Raider sucks up more points in a list heavy with heavy point suckers. Deathwing Knights, I dropped these because Tom is paying points for the Crusader to transport them and then Belial only makes Deathwing troops – so paying to make Terminators troops and not having one unit scoring. I replaced these with a DWCS (Deathwing Command Squad), which act as the hammer unit.
The Vindicator is my favourite heavy support choice in the variety of Space Marine codices. Nothing screams big scary tank like a big scary tank with a big cannon and dozer blade on the front. Big Hitter The Vindicator is based on a Rhino chassis and is av13-11-10. It costs about 115 points though this depends on which codex you use the Vindicator from. It comes with smoke launchers and search light as standard and in some books it comes with a storm bolter too – handy for those weapon destroyed results. The big factor about the Vindicator is the demolisher cannon; 24″ S10 AP2 large blast ordnance. With something that powerful the Vindicator can fill a variety of roles; anti horde, anti elite infantry i.e Terminators, anti armour and is useful for gibbing multi wound models i.e Broadsides, Paladins, Thunderwolves etc. The area it falls down in is it cannot deal with monstrous creatures effectively, but hey ho it cannot do it all. Usual upgrades are a dozer blade, additional small arm i.e storm bolter or twin-linked bolter, extra armour and unique upgrades for Chaos Space Marines such as daemonic possession (ignores crew shaken and stunned on a 2+), dirge caster etc.
I have been mad for 40k this weekend and I have been seriously getting my painting groove on.
I have tweaked my Ravenwing list a little bit, I am now using a super unit of Black Knights. Be interesting to see how they do.
I am wanting to use some Black Knights in my Ravenwing army, as I think the dudes are pretty bad ass. I would like two units if I am honest, but previous play tests (using triple Attack Bikes and triple flamer units) doesn’t work. So I am thinking about using a super size unit, say something 7-8 in size. A RW Black Knight costs 42 points a pop and comes with a 18″ twin-linked plasma gun and a funky mini hammer which gives
I have been thinking of running this list:
Double testing of new lists tonight; I am using a Ravenwing list as I fancy a biker army and Rich is testing a modified Tyranid list. Should be fun! Dark Angels ‘Ravenwing’ – 2,000 points HQ Sammael Ravenwing Command Squad – banner of devastation & apothecary Librarian – bike, auspex & infravisor Troops 5 x Ravenwing Bikers w/ Attack Bike – 2 x meltaguns – Sgt w/ melta bombs – Attack Bike w/ multi melta 5 x Ravenwing Bikers w/ Attack Bike – 2 x meltaguns – Sgt w/ melta bombs – Attack Bike w/ multi melta 5 x Ravenwing Bikers w/ Attack Bike – 2 x meltaguns – Sgt w/ melta bombs – Attack Bike w/ multi melta 5 x Ravenwing Bikers w/ Attack Bike – 2 x plasma guns
So I am thinking of doing a Ravenwing army. I’ll put it out there that I do not like Dark Angels, I have zero interest in them. I know that sounds weird, but I have always liked bikes. I know I could go S.M bikes, but the Dark Angels can do it loads better. It’s not all dislike though, I think the Ravenwing units look cool plus I have never had a black army before. I have built a typical Ravenwing list (6 x 5 units with Attack Bike) which has a Ravenwing Command Squad as a focus point with the dakka banner. I have also added a Librarian to bulk out the Command Squad as I think it will be feeling the pain. My list total is 1,784 so far and with the remaining 200 ish points I need to add anti air support. I have a few options for anti air support: 1.
