Getting started with 40k

Getting started with 40k

Pete Dunn over at Fields of Blood has stated his intention (along with Charlie St Clair) to build himself a Heresy Era 40k army (see original post here) I've always wanted to build and paint up a Space Marine army as the fluff for 40k is simply fantastic.

Clash for the Cure!

Clash for the Cure!

Hey guys, I know I’ve been running this blog sporadically for awhile and wanted to use it to get the word out about an event. Few of you know that I actually work in medical oncology research. I often come home from work and try and figure out how I can help fight this terrible disease. A few months ago I was approached by the director of Clash for the Cure and the two things clicked together for me. I decided to donate to the cause by painting some miniatures for their raffle. I’ve really wanted to paint some Cryx recently so I decided to paint up a Cryx battle box for their miniature raffle. So without further ado I’ve finished my first model from the box, a Deathripper bonejack. I encourage anyone interested in helping to get involved and check out the website linked above. Even if you would just like to donate the information is available on the website.

Fimir – More Basing Shenanigans & Severe Temptations

Fimir – More Basing Shenanigans & Severe Temptations

You join Mr Saturday today as I take refuge from the wondrous sunshine on a day off. I do love me some sun, but only for so long before I can feel my skin begin to smoulder. So, afternoon siesta time. After my recent foray into water effects on my movement trays, I decided to take a look at Base-X-of-War’s resin base range. I had picked up some of these a while ago, but only recently gotten to paint some up. I must say, I do love their stuff, the range is increasing all the time and they are pretty inexpensive. The swamp bases all have recesses for adding water effects, similar to the movement trays. You can see the latest fimm here on the base-x base waiting for the water to be added. This will be tinted to represent boggy water.

WIP – High Elves White Lions, Swordmasters & Seaguard

Nearly finished the WL and SM just the washes on the flesh areas, some black lining to complete the highlighting, a couple of tints on the jewels and trees (like these) to add to the White Lion bases and they’re all done.

Green Light To Game: The Next 5 Weeks!

Green Light To Game: The Next 5 Weeks!

The ebb and flow of gaming for a father of flow of four can be a very fickle thing. Just one week ago, I was trying to figure out how to squeeze in a couple of games in a few available hours; now however, things have changed. The Great She-Dragon has given me the go ahead to game to my hearts content every weekend from now till the end of February…except my Daughters birthday weekend…of course! But still, that is 4 weekends of gaming!!! Now the question becomes how many events can I fit in this time frame. I managed to find gaming on every single weekend from now till the end of my Hall Pass; amazingly enough, I even managed to squeeze in a Grand Tournament. My schedule for the next few weeks looks rather full. January 28 – Escalation League Month 1: 500 Points (Tyranids) February 11 – 2000 Point RTT at Pair A Dice Games (GK) February 18 & 19 – Broadside Bash February 25 – Escalation League Month 2: 500 Points (Tyranids) February 26 – 1750 RTT at Thou Shalt Game I do have a tough decision to make: Whether or not I should try and fluff up my list in an effort to score higher at Broadside Bash and their subjective comp score. In the end, I decided to do like Reece – who last year just went and took his Missile Wolves to Broadside Bash. In other words, I will be taking my Green Knights as is to this 2K event. Well, better get some rest, it is gonna be a long 5 weeks!

Magilla’s Malifaux: Wicked Dolls – Part Deux

Magilla’s Malifaux: Wicked Dolls – Part Deux

This weekend was horrible; absolutely terrible. It was suppose to be a great weekend, it was my birthday and I was going to go to a 40K Doubles Tournament with Snake-Eyes. However, I ended up writhing in pain (truth be told I still am feeling like crap) all weekend due to the fact I have a kidney stone. If you have never had one, you are lucky; if you have had one, you know the pain I speak of… …think of pushing a basketball through a garden hose! Anyways, I woke up Sunday and was actually able to unfurl from my fetal position and work on some models. I decided to finish up my Wicked Dolls as there were only two of them left and I am still trying to figure out how I wanted to paint the rest of Collodi’s crew… …most specifically the Stiched Together. I think the models turned out okay. I will never win any painting contests, but they are sufficient for table top quality
