Fimir – What’s on the Table

Fimir – What’s on the Table

Just a quick post to reiterate that the fimir are still very much in progress, in case anyone was worried what with all the genestealer cult talk lately… At the moment I’m just finishing the last of the half dead. I have some basing to finish, and then they’re done! I’m very happy with them, and I’m looking forward to popping their cherry on the tabletop. Just hitting the painting table are the first of the marlwyrm monstrous cavalry. I’m considering how to paint the shields of the fimir riders. Some of the results of the verdigris effects I tried on the half dead should work great on the detail on the shields, which are from Scibor. I also have some drool techniques using various plastic glues to test before I apply them to the maw of the wyrms. Fun times!

Can a brother get a little hobby help?

Can a brother get a little hobby help?

So, as part of the half-term holidays, I’ve been getting in some serious hobby time with my lad. I had promised him that we’d build one of my guard vehicles but when we dug it out, it appears that the floor is missing from the sprue. I know it’s a long shot, but do any of you guys got a spare old school chimera floor that you wouldn’t mind selling? If not, if anyone can give me the dimensions etc so I can attempt to reconstruct it out of plasticard please. Thanks in advance guys Col

A Year of Mumbling – 2012 Review

A Year of Mumbling – 2012 Review

Another year of hobby is coming to an end, and it’s time for a look back over 2012 before it slips out the window forever. It’s been a very fimir flavoured year, this one. I started the project in 2011, but it only really took off about half way into the year. Most people would have churned out the entire army and started into the next one by now, but allow me to regail you with a variety of excuses as to why this didn’t happen. I am a slow painter. I’m converting about 90% of the army, in many cases sculpting parts from scratch. I have two small children. For those gamer dads out there, this bullet point will be more than sufficient excuse to explain my tardiness.

Fimir – Half Dead & Fimir Character

Fimir – Half Dead & Fimir Character

I’ve been having a lot of fun with files, saws, clippers and greenstuff of late. I love assembling and converting models, I must say. Here above from right to left we have another half-dead, the half-dead unit champion, Sreng, and Avagdu, a deformed shearl who carries a possessed wyrdstone on his back containing the soul of a former meargh. He’ll be a low level wizard in the game. I’ve been wanting to put him together for a while now. He’s a mad model, I’m looking forward to painting him up. I used the solder pen again on the half-dead to add lesions and melt out his abdomen. Works great.

Fimir – The Half Dead

Fimir – The Half Dead

I’ve been thinking about a new unit for the fimir for a while now, a kind of infantry version of the fenbeast, perhaps to represent chosen (I’m using the Warriors of Chaos list) and I’ve come up with the half-dead, taken from an old story from 2000AD’s Slaine. I think a combination of skeleton, Mantic zombie and wood elf dryad parts will do the job nicely to represent the distorted sludgy horrors I’d like to create. I got the weirdstone idea from Slaine too. Here’s my fluff for the unit. The Half-Dead
