NOVA Open List: CSM with Daemons

NOVA Open List: CSM with Daemons

Howdy all, Ian here, and still kicking around ideas for my final list for this year’s NOVA Open. The tournament is 1850, and I really want it to be the coming out party for the CSM army I have been working with on and off for the last 5 or 6 years. Originally just a Death Guard army, I added Red Corsairs last year, and am now considering fortifications and Daemon allies. Now, I have Daemons queued up for my Death Guard (I have several all Nurgle lists with all kinds of goodies, including Land Raiders, Mutilators, Spawn, Blight Drones etc), but I want to try out a minimized Daemon ally for a little fun gimmick I call the “Pocked Prescience Herald.” I’ll get into that in a moment, first, here’s the list: Now, I’d like to break down the different elements of the list: Rear Guard: Pocket Prescience Herald – At 45 points, the bog standard Herald of Tzeentch is a deceivingly good buy. At 45 points you get a model that shoots like a marine (BS 4), comes with a mastery level, and gets access to Divination. He also re-rolls failed saves of 1, so he is perfectly at home behind an Aegis Defense Line. This is actually the first list I've made that featured a fortification, I recently bought the Imperial Strongpoint, and now have 2 Bastions and 3 ADL's to distribute among my armies. So, I will plan to setup an objective or two behind my Aegis, and plop my 135 point

Army Lists: Chaos Daemons ‘Kinky Fire Dogs’ – 2,000 points

Army Lists: Chaos Daemons ‘Kinky Fire Dogs’ – 2,000 points

Not written an army list for a bit (though have been working on Eldar lists), thought I would have a crack at Chaos Daemons as a few dudes as my local club have started Chaos Daemons and they have spurred me on. Chaos Daemons ‘Kinky Fire Dogs’ – 2,000 points HQ Keeper of Secrets – mastery level 3 & 2 x greater rewards Keeper of Secrets – mastery level 3 & 2 x greater rewards Troops 10 x Pink Horrors 10 x Pink Horrors 10 x Pink Horrors 10 x Pink Horrors Fast Attack 11 x Flesh Hounds 11 x Flesh Hounds Heavy Support Daemon Prince – daemon of slaanesh, warp forged armour, daemonic flight & 2 x greater rewards Daemon Prince – daemon of slaanesh, warp forged armour, daemonic flight & 2 x greater rewards Daemon Prince – daemon of slaanesh, warp forged armour, daemonic flight & 2 x greater rewards Total: 1,997 Sorry about the silly ass list name, couldn’t think of anything good. Yeah, I know, I suck at finding cool names. I do not like horde armies and prefer fast moving shooty armies which are either elite i.e Ravenwing, mech such as Dark Eldar or big ass monsters. Tyranids can knock out many o big monster, but I am not interested in them and found a liking for Chaos Daemons a year ago. Now I know KoS (Keeper of Secrets) aren’t awesome, but with some good luck (luck isn’t a valid tactic, but it is what Chaos Daemons codex goes on as everything is random) the Keepers should get invisibility power (gives stealth and shrouding) on the telepathy psychic power table. Hopefully some good greater rewards will do too such as 4+ feel no pain and 3+ armour save, the extra wound gift will be handy too. The Horrors are there just to camp on objectives and lay down some covering fire.

Army Lists: Chaos Daemons ‘Chariot Race’ – 2,000 points

Army Lists: Chaos Daemons ‘Chariot Race’ – 2,000 points

I am going to be knocking out several Chaos Daemon lists today. This first one is going on a chariot theme is is Slaanesh based. For HQ I’ll take quad Heralds and throw them on a chariot. I’ll take the grimnoire on one to boost saves, though not 100% decided on this one. I’ll throw on some gifts and maybe locus as well, the exalted locus is nice especially if the Heralds have an etherblade. Troop wise I’ll throw in four units of Daemonettes. I need to make them a decent size so they can absorb fire power, lets say fifthteen for now. I’ll boost up if needed. Onto fast attack and choice here will the be Seeker Chariot.

Army Lists: Daemons and more Daemons

Army Lists: Daemons and more Daemons

I’ve been thinking about my Daemons army the last day or so; why have I got 30 Plaguebearers when I can have more Screamers? In particular I have been thinking about this because I have entered two escalation leagues and as the points increase I am limited to what I can add. For your info here’s my current Daemon army: Herald of Tzeentch – chariot of tzeentch, master of sorcery, we are legion & bolt of tzeentch Herald of Tzeentch – chariot of tzeentch, master of sorcery, we are legion & bolt of tzeentch Herald of Tzeentch – chariot of tzeentch, master of sorcery, we are legion & bolt of tzeentch The Masque 5 x Flamers of Tzeentch 5 x Flamers of Tzeentch 5 x Flamers of Tzeentch 10 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 10 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 5 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 5 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 6 x Screamers of Tzeentch 6 x Screamers of Tzeentch Soul Grinder – phelgm Soul Grinder – phelgm Soul Grinder – phelgm The reason I like this list is because it gives a lot of target saturation, plus it really annoys a lot of people, they just hate it ;). Also, it’s not the internet norm of Fatey, Bloodthirster, Horrors and several Princes with addition of Screamers and Flamers. You’ve got the cheeky Heralds with their 5 wounds each and 4+ inv who can split fire. Flamers and Screamers do their things. Plaguebearers sit back and hold objectives (small units) while the bigger units just get into someones face and tackle basic troops. The Grinders blast troops on the ground (who don’t stand much chance with the AP3 large blast) and tear up vehicles and tough infantry with ease.

MtG: horsey power!

MtG: horsey power!

I was meant to post this last week, I was off work Friday and forgot to schedule this post for Friday last week. In fact I totally forgot altogether as I didn’t even write the post! Horsey deck aka Centaur is my first deck I ever built. John is telling me it is best to make a themed deck i.e deathtouch, lifelink or creatures such as wolves or zombies. At the time I hadn’t been collecting long and had only purchased a deck builder and two return to ranvica sets, one was selesnya surge. I rummaged through my cards and managed to find four Centaur’s Herald and four Centaur’s Courser. Using the cards from the selnesya surge deck I added more horsey power. First time using the deck it got smashed. I hadn’t looked at it since I first built it and my time had gone into other decks.

Battle Report: Daemons vs Dark Eldar – 2,000 points

Battle Report: Daemons vs Dark Eldar – 2,000 points

Got a game in with Poddy last night. Last time he whooped my ass when I used CSM, I am sticking with chaos and gone down the Daemon route this time. Will Poddy score another upset? Daemons ‘Dirty Magic’ – 2,000 points HQ The Masque Herald of Tzeentch – chariot of tzeentch, we are legion, master of sorcery & bolt of tzeentch Herald of Tzeentch – chariot of tzeentch, we are legion, master of sorcery & bolt of tzeentch Herald of Tzeentch – chariot of tzeentch, we are legion, master of sorcery & bolt of tzeentch Elites 5 x Flamers of Tzeentch 5 x Flamers of Tzeentch 5 x Flamers of Tzeentch Troops 10 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 10 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 5 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 5 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle Fast Attack 6 x Screamers of Tzeentch 6 x Screamers of Tzeentch Heavy Support Soul Grinder – phlegm Soul Grinder – phlegm Soul Grinder – phlegm Dark Eldar ‘Kabal of the Gaping Gash’ – 2,000 points HQ Haemonculus – liquifier gun Elite 3 x Kabalite Trueborn w/ Venom – 3 x blasters – Venom w/ splinter cannon 3 x Kabalite Trueborn w/ Venom – 3 x blasters – Venom w/ splinter cannon 3 x Kabalite Trueborn w/ Venom – 3 x blasters – Venom w/ splinter cannon Troops 9 x Wyches w/ Raider – shardnet + impaler & haywire grenades – Hekatrix w/ agoniser – Raider w/ flickerfield 5 x Kabalite Warriors w/ Venom – blaster – Venom w/ splinter cannon 5 x Kabalite Warriors w/ Venom – blaster – Venom w/ splinter cannon 5 x Kabalite Warriors w/ Venom – blaster – Venom w/ splinter cannon 5 x Kabalite Warriors w/ Venom – blaster – Venom w/ splinter cannon 5 x Kabalite Warriors w/ Venom – blaster – Venom w/ splinter cannon Fast Attack 6 x Reaver Jetbikes – 2 x heat lances 6 x Reaver Jetbikes – 2 x heat lances Heavy Support Ravager – flickerfield Ravager – flickerfield Ravager – flickerfield Game: crusade + dawn of war Deployment As writing this I realised we forgot to roll for night fighting and warlord traits, ah well! I win the roll off for table side and Poddy wins for deployment and choses to go second; reason he did this is because if he goes first he will lose a turn of shooting, plus Daemons are all about alpha strike and it doesn’t matter if he goes first or second my Daemons will still alpha strike, providing I get the right wave 😉 Poddy deploys with his Raider and Ravagers at the front long ways on, well one Ravager is over on my right flank. Behind is the Venoms and behind those the Reavers. I had placed an objctive in the large ruin centre of my deployment zone and another one in a large ruin on the left flank on the top floor. Poddy placed the other one in a ruin on a hill in his deployment zone in the middle. * Tactical Notes I really do not like D.E when I am using an infantry based list, in fact I do not like them at all. They pack enough anti infantry and anti armour weaponry to deal with any army. Because Poddy can dakka my units to bits fairly easily I will deep strike my first wave all over to the left flank, there’s more room here you see plus so is the Raider with the Wyches and Haemonculus so I can kill two birds with one stone

Battle Report: Daemons vs Dark Eldar – 1,500 points

Battle Report: Daemons vs Dark Eldar – 1,500 points

Usual Tuesday night means time with the not so tactical genius, Poddy. Poddy is getting into the realms of a real man’s game and now playing 1,500 points. He still has 500 to go to make it to the big boys leagues. I was going to play CSM tonight, but decided I am loving my Daemons so much, that I should give them a whirl. Daemons – 1,500 points HQ Herald of Tzeentch – chariot of tzeentch, we are legion, master of sorcery & bolt of tzeentch Herald of Tzeentch – chariot of tzeentch, we are legion, master of sorcery & bolt of tzeentch Herald of Tzeentch – chariot of tzeentch, we are legion, master of sorcery & bolt of tzeentch Elites 5 x Flamers of Tzeentch 5 x Flamers of Tzeentch Troops 10 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 5 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 5 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle Fast Attack 6 x Screamers of Tzeentch 6 x Screamers of Tzeentch Heavy Support Soul Grinder – phlegm Soul Grinder – phlegm Dark Eldar ‘Kabal of the slashed gash’ – 1,500 points HQ Haemonculus – liquifier gun Elite 4 x Kabalite Trueborn w/ Venom – 4 x blasters – Venom w/ splinter cannon 4 x Kabalite Trueborn w/ Venom – 4 x blasters – Venom w/ splinter cannon Troops 5 x Kabalite Warriors w/ Venom – blaster – Venom w/ splinter cannon 5 x Kabalite Warriors w/ Venom – blaster – Venom w/ splinter cannon 5 x Kabalite Warriors w/ Venom – blaster – Venom w/ splinter cannon 9 x Wyches w/ Raider – shardnet & impaler & haywire grenades – Hekatrix w/ agoniser – Raider w/ flickerfield Fast Attack 6 x Reaver Jetbikes – 2 x heat lances Heavy Support Ravager – flickerfield Ravager – flickerfield Ravager – flickerfield Game: Pitched Battle + Purge the Xeno – Night fighting is active Warlord Traits – Daemons – outflanking units get acute sense & Dark Eldar – can make it night fighting Deployment I won the roll off for deployment side, I chose the side which has more room for Poddy to deploy in. This seems weird, but as my deep strike is aggressive, I need room to land. Poddy wins the roll off for deployment and decides to go first. Poddy’s deployment is pretty simple but effective, and it appears he has finally gathered some tactical knowledge from yours truely. He has put his Ravagers at the front long ways on, which will give a cover save to the Venoms etc behind

Battle Report: 1k and 500 point double bat rep madness

Battle Report: 1k and 500 point double bat rep madness

At Powerfist Gaming a escalation league is starting soon. Seems I’ve just started Daemons, I thought it would be rude not to enter. Plus this gurantees me games and I also get to play smaller games, which I find enjoyable. I didn’t get any pictures last night as I wasn’t planning on doing bat reps, but as there’re small games I can easily remember what has happened. My first game is 1,000 points and is against Alan. Alan has played the D.V missions a bit, but not a full game of 6th, though he knows the game inside out. He’s also using his new Imperial Fists force. Daemons – 1,000 points HQ Herald of Tzeentch – chariot of tzeentch, we are legion, master of sorcery & bolt of tzeentch Herald of Tzeentch – chariot of tzeentch, we are legion, master of sorcery & bolt of tzeentch Elites 5 x Flamers of Tzeentch 5 x Flamers of Tzeentch Troops 5 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 5 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 5 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 5 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle Fast Attack 5 x Screamers of Tzeentch 5 x Screamers of Tzeentch Imperial Fists – 1,000 points HQ Pedro Kantor Librarian Elite 5 x Assault Terminators – 3 x lightning claws + 2 x thunderhammers & storm shields Troops 10 x Tactical Marines w/ Rhino – meltagun & missile launcher 5 x Scouts – bolters & heavy bolter Fast Attack 5 x Assault Marines – sgt w/ power fist Heavy Support Predator – heavy bolter sponsons Game: vanguard strike + purge the alien Deployment Night fighting is on. I cannot remember warlord traits, though I know mine was useless.

So, I was planning on making my first citadel finecast purchase this weekend (and yes — I've waited a while to do so).
