My beef with Chaos Daemons

My beef with Chaos Daemons

I have been upset with the Chaos Daemons codex since the book hit the shelves back in March. Yup I was one of those who spammed Flamers and Screamers and those units getting nerfed was well deserved, but they didn’t need to be hit that hard. Though this was one of the many problems with Chaos Daemons. Random is Random I know it is in the nature of fluff of Chaos Daemons to be random, but I really cannot be dealing with it. I find it makes games a lot more long winded as you have to make note of the random gifts you roll for and also random psychic powers – that’s two things randomly rolled for. I know you can remember the abilities easy enough, but when learning lists it makes it tough as you need to remember what model has what. I know you can just write them down on some paper etc, but I do not want bits of paper and other bits floating about while I am trying to play toy soldiers. It’s just another thing you have to remember about and it isn’t second nature like other 40k rules. Lets get ready to suuuuuuuuuuuccccccccccccccccccck it Because that’s exactly what the troops do; suck donkey big. All of the troops blow goats.

Army Lists: Chaos Daemons ‘No Spam’ – 2,000 points

Army Lists: Chaos Daemons ‘No Spam’ – 2,000 points

Another no spam for you to have a gander at, this time Chaos Daemons. Chaos Daemons ‘No Spam’ – 2,000 points HQ Daemon Prince – daemon of slaanesh, warp forged armour, daemonic flight & 2 x greater rewards Daemon Prince – daemon of slaanesh, warp forged armour, daemonic flight & 2 x greater rewards 2 x Heralds of Tzeentch – mastery level 3 psker, locus of conjuration & 1 x exalted reward Troops 10 x Pink Horrors 10 x Pink Horrors 10 x Plaguebearers 10 x Plaguebearers Fast Attack 16 x Flesh Hounds 16 x Flesh Hounds Heavy Support Soul Grinder – daemon of tzeentch & phlegm bombardment Soul Grinder – daemon of tzeentch & phlegm bombardment Total: 1,992 The Princes ideally will be swapping one greater reward for the lash of despair, they attack flyers or zoom down the flanks to they can little return fire. Soul Grinders can either take a flank with the Princes or roll up the centre, their phlegm should be in range either way. Flesh Hounds will move up the centre, so you have two fast moving units on the ground then two fast moving units in the air and two clunking metal things coming behind. All of the units are supporting together and while they maybe spread out, it will force the opponent to pick what to focus fire on and the opponent’s guns will be spread out – I suggest you only do this if you’re going second. If you do go first then just put everything on a single flank and do refused flank deployment or drop it all in the centre so you can go either way. The Horrors can move up mid field and camp with the Heralds. You can switch one of the Heralds’ powers for prescience if you like, however I would be tempted to use all mastery levels to fire flickering fire; in total the unit will be firing 6D6 shots.

Army Lists: Chaos Daemons ‘Chariot Race’ – 2,000 points

Army Lists: Chaos Daemons ‘Chariot Race’ – 2,000 points

I am going to be knocking out several Chaos Daemon lists today. This first one is going on a chariot theme is is Slaanesh based. For HQ I’ll take quad Heralds and throw them on a chariot. I’ll take the grimnoire on one to boost saves, though not 100% decided on this one. I’ll throw on some gifts and maybe locus as well, the exalted locus is nice especially if the Heralds have an etherblade. Troop wise I’ll throw in four units of Daemonettes. I need to make them a decent size so they can absorb fire power, lets say fifthteen for now. I’ll boost up if needed. Onto fast attack and choice here will the be Seeker Chariot.

Battle Report: Daemons vs Imperial Guard

Battle Report: Daemons vs Imperial Guard

Game with Shaun yesterday. He’s rocking a full on mech list, one which I originally wrote, which he has tweaked. Should be interesting as this list has everything. Chaos Daemons – 2,000 points HQ Herald of Tzeentch – disc of tzeentch, master of sorcery, we are legion & bolt of tzeentch Herald of Tzeentch – disc of tzeentch, master of sorcery, we are legion & bolt of tzeentch Herald of Tzeentch – disc of tzeentch, master of sorcery, we are legion & bolt of tzeentch The Masque Elite 5 x Flamers of Tzeentch 5 x Flamers of Tzeentch 5 x Flamers of Tzeentch Troops 10 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 10 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 5 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle 5 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle Fast Attack 6 x Screamers of Tzeentch 6 x Screamers of Tzeentch Heavy Support Soul Grinder – phlegm Soul Grinder – phlegm Soul Grinder – phlegm Imperial Guard – 2,000 points HQ Company Command Squad w/ Chimera – 4 x plasma guns & Commander w/ plasma pistol Troops Veterans w/ Chimera – 3 x meltaguns Veterans w/ Chimera – 3 x meltaguns Veterans w/ Chimera – 3 x meltaguns Veterans w/ Chimera – 3 x plasma guns Veterans w/ Chimera – 3 x plasma guns Veterans w/ Chimera – 3 x plasma guns Fast Attack Hellhound Vendetta Heavy Support Hydra Flak Tank Battery Leman Russ Demolisher – heavy bolter sponsons & lascannon Manticore Rocket Launcher Mission: Hammer + Anvil & Big Guns Never Tire. Night fighting is on. Warlord Traits: Daemons – re-roll reserves Guard – -1 to enemy reserves Deployment I won the roll off for table sides, I picked the table side with less open space giving Shaun the one with more space to deploy in. This might seem a benefit for him, but it allows me to deep strike without many mishaps. I lost the roll off for deployment and Shaun decided to go first. Shaun deploys with the Chimeras in multiple lines

Hobby: Nurgle Soul Grinder WIP and Daemon lovelyness

Hobby: Nurgle Soul Grinder WIP and Daemon lovelyness

I’ve been a busy bumble bee last night and decided to break out the greenstuff. I’ve had ideas running through my head how I can nurgle up futrue Soul Grinders. My plan was to paint my existing one and not add any greenstuff, well I was a eager beaver and that all went to pot. It did work out nicely though, as I wanted to add something to my Heralds as they look really bland atm. Here's the Soul Grinder with nurgle greenstuff. As you can see I've put a fair amount on it. I basically got some greenstuff and stretched it over the model and smoothed it down. I then got a screwdriver and stabbed it, moved it, twisted it and all kinds of things. I decided to make the exhaust stacks look special and put wraps of greenstuff around them; these will be some kind of flesh which will have exhaust soot on them. To finish off I add some balls of greenstuff which will be boils etc and greenstuffed the spare nurgle banners I had from my Plaguebearers, on to the Soul Grinder.

Hobby: Daemon working weekend

Hobby: Daemon working weekend

I’ve been a busy bee this weekend and been really cracking on my Daemons. I’ve sort of done two Heralds of Tzeentch and got to a point where I am really not sure what to do. Looking for feedback and suggestions on the Heralds; maybe I could add a spell book, or Tzeentch symbols or greenstuff some braclets? I will be adding some wash to the claws and horns to darken them down. I might add some highlights to the skin, as there’s not a load of shadows atm. The one with the triple heads has got a few feathers, which will add some colour and I think solve the bland look on that herald. Oh, the rear tentacles haven’t been finished; they need blending properly. Finished 10 Plaguebearers over the weekend. I was going to double wash them, but I think they look ok.
